Whitehall Weekly Write-ins

Hi, y'all! Your friendly local co Municipal Liason, here. Nicki's the name, trying not to lose my head before November is the game.

In that vein, I'm here to talk about write-ins. Erin and I would like to see if there is enough interest to run a Wednesday and a Sunday write-in every week, either at the Whitehall Barnes & Noble, Borders, or Panera.

Who is up for the following?:

Wednesdays, 7 p.m., Panera

Sundays, 2 p.m., Borders

We are open to suggestions as to time and location, and who is most interested in which day. We can do both, or we can focus on one.

(Many thank you's to Kelly/TheScribe for gathering the Whitehall/Northampton/Walnutport-ers in a thread! We can't do this without you guys!!)

Thanks, guys! We'll get a general consensus and add them to the schedule before November starts.
Question about the NaNo Stats?

Does anyone know where we stand on the NaNo stats? I've checked everyone's profiles and I don't know if it is just me and my lovely computer or if no one can see where Lehigh Valley stands in the ratings. Not a big deal, I just was curious and found it odd I couldn't see mine, or then, anyone else's.
Thanks, in advance!
Feel like cheating on your novel with another story?

I have been having these urges to write stories that aren't even remotely related to my novel. I want to ignore my novel and work on these other ideas before they're gone. I know the NaNo thing to do is to have my character write these stories so they count for word count, but I don't want to do that to my (so far mostly) perfect story.

Is anyone else having these problems? Or maybe it's just me!

The disciplined part of me started a Posterous account to write them all down in the hopes that in December I'll actually still be interested in them. Do you suppose that famous, published writers ever abandon their current project to have a fling with another idea? It sort of feels like cheating on a boyfriend!

Actually, more like cheating on a girlfriend, now that I think of it. My novel is a girl. Do your novels have genders?
Things that have distracted you from writing.

Hello all,
I thought I would join the fray in putting up a post when I should be writing. I decide to tell everyone that I was going strong right up to the point my daughter invited me to a tea party. I can't believe how torn I was. I mean, I was really in the groove. I was channeling David Drake. Then there it was, the pull to stop. Those bright soul grabbing blue eyes, the curls of blonde hair, and the sweet melody of that tiny little voice, "Daddy, daddy...its time for the tea party." Her smile rivaled the Cheshire Cat grin. Then the laughter started, "Come on daddy. Its going to get cold." My heart melted and so did my train of thought. The plot line, the character conflict, the channel to David Drake was all gone. There was simply nothing I could do.

 The tea party:
All was in attendance. The baby doll sisters, both puppies Angus and Lacey, Mommy , Daddy, and the Princess twins all enjoyed ourselves. A few heated discussions popped up between Angus and the baby doll sisters. They are always having words. All and all a good time was had by all.

Thanks for listening and for what has distracted you.

Panera Allentown AM Write-ins

I've discovered I can't write at home this year! I went to last night's Whitehall write-in about 8:30 (and met Gina - hi!!), and writing was so easy! But when I got home, nothing. Zippo.

I may be able to blame that on finishing off Beth Cooper, I Love You before I started to write...

Anyway, I'm going to try morning writing at Panera. There's one just a few blocks from my office, on Tilghman and Cedar Crest a few doors down from the Giant. I'm here now, and I think I'll try to be here tomorrow (Friday 11/6) and next Thursday, too. If anyone wants to come write in the morning with me and a cup of hot chocolate, I'd love to see you! I'll be here around 8 a.m. until almost 9 a.m.
Bring it!

I just was looking through some people's bios, and noticed that there's someone in the Philadelphia region with over 300K in word count. !!! And then I looked at MY bio, and saw that my dad has twice the word count I have!

Argh! I am now feeling envious, deflated, and incredibly competitive all at once. Mostly competitive towards my dad. Admittedly he has more time to write than I do, but oy! Now I've got to beat him!

Where have you found your competitive nature coming out to attack you and your word count?

Does anyone have a motivational tool we haven't mentioned here yet?

Who thinks they're going to die of envy before they finish?

It Gets Easier

This is my fourth year doing NaNo. One thing that I've discovered in my four years of NaNo is that the word count gets easier the more times you challenge yourself to fifty thousand words in thirty days. It's a familiar rythm that your body knows, that your fingers know as they type out each character, each word. It might be that my topic this year is just one that I know and can back up with research and that I really do know my topic after almost a year being interested in it.
Don't get discouraged when you looked around and see that some people's word counts are starting to go into the teens. Focus on your words. This the third day of NaNo and have a word count in the teens isn't really normal or sane for most people.
Relax and enjoy yourself. It will get easier just don't worry about anyone else.

Whats your main Characters name and how did you decide on that?

Mine is Ana Fortuna, because Ana is a short name to type, and Fortuna because her future/destiny is unknown but fortunate, I hope.

Morning everyone,

How many can make it tomorrow evening? I missed Sunday due to the flu, but think I can manage tomorrow night and Sunday for sure.

I would like to see a few people there - if it will help to find each other, I have a "No Plot, No Problem" box set that a friend bought for me, I can have it on a table so we know where to find each other.

Your NaNoWriMo Headquarters

This is my first year participating in NaNoWriMo. I confess that I'm feeling just a bit intimidated since I work about 80 hours a week and fiction isn't my comfort zone. However, nothing is more energizing than sharing the experience with other writers. To that end, I invite all Lehigh Valley participants to join me and your fellow writers at my cafe on an on-going basis.. We offer free WiFi, a calming ambiance and overstuffed comfy chairs in addition to traditional tables and chairs. Bring your laptop or your notebook; rendezvous with your writing buddies or meet new ones. It's all good!

We're open 7 days a week (M-F 10:30 am - 7:00 pm / Sat 10:30 am - 6:00 pm Sun 11:30 am - 3:00 pm) . During the month of November we'll even treat you to a free fountain drink so you can't blame your writer's block on thirst! (Just come prepared to work and tell us your NaNoWriMo name.)

Anyone near Reading?

Hello everyone,
This is my first year doing Nano and to tell you the truth I really can't justify going all the way up past Allentown from the reading area when we have some perfectly nice coffee shops around where I live. I live close to Reading but I'm not in Reading so maybe is there are any more Nano-ers in the Reading area that would like to join me I'm game!
Welcome to NaNoWriMo 2009 in Lehigh Valley!

Heh. My browser's autofill popped up with two choices when I typed in the subject for this post -- the same words for 2007 and 2008. Something to be said for consistency.

If you haven't checked out the regional info header yet, do take a look at it. We have links to our Twitter (http://twitter.com/LVPANaNo) and blog (http://lvpanano.wordpress.com), and there are statistics for how many have signed up, donated, and written (no words yet, of course).

We're looking forward to another great year of noveling and fun! Even those of us who aren't sure what we'll be writing yet.

I'm a Lehigh grad student so I live in Bethlehem. I've tried doing Nano for the last few years and never managed to make it past 15000 words. Going to try again this year. I don't know what my plot or story will be just yet. haha.

Are there any meet ups set for the Lehigh Valley?

Also, I'm looking for a local writing buddy. Let me know if you're interested.
