Friday Write-Ins @ Bagels & Brew! Week 4.

This is the thread for our weekly write-ins on Fridays at Bagels & Brew!

This week there are, oddly enough, two week one write-ins. We will be gathering at Bagels & Brew at 6 p.m. on Friday the 2nd, and the 9th. We hope to see you there!

IN ADDITION! For those of you (like myself, Nicole...) who are insane enough to try to start your novels just after the stroke of Midnight on November 1st, there will be an informal Write-In at Denny's. Insanity loves company, so you're all quite welcome. ;-)

ALSO IN ADDITION! If you happen to have a car, you're also quite welcome to join the kooky folks over in Moscow for their write-in, which will be held on Saturday the 3rd from 1-4 p.m. at Sister's Brew.

Post if you can come, post if you can't, ask questions, anything write-in related in this thread!
The Build-a-Sentance Results!

You didn't think I'd forget, did ya? Yes, you probably did. ;-) This year, I've managed NOT to lose the pages, and I figured tonight would be a good night to post them. Enjoy! :)

(There may be some discrepencies where I can't read the handwriting correctly.)

Once upon a time there was a young woman who made a living milking llamas. One day, she baked cookies. This was a problem because nobody within three blocks could solve the Rubik's Cube. However, there was a sudden plot twist! Two bagels walked into a bar. Ouch said, "Ouch." And then he ran outside and cried. The bar was often a place of mortal sorrows. Yet for immortal dreams you have to drink a whole lot more root beer than that. Trust me. Have I ever led you down a dark alley before marching into the forbidden zone. Jack Frost awaits us on the far side of the Cave of No Return. The librarian looked at the overdue book and promptly threw it at the patron's head. He rushed to his brother. "Nathan, I'll never leave you!" shouted Peter, "Make sweet music of the violins and the trombones." But they were filled with defication. Which caused all the cats in town to get the runs. So Gage started copying what I said, so I threw a very large snow ball at the killer bunny peering from around the corner and under the giant statue of Ernest Borgnine. The horse was clearly not happy about having a rider. It made its displeasure known by his majesty, the king of hippos. The guards ran toward Amelie, screaming like fish on LSD and marijuana. She wasn't at all pleased about it. In fact the gravy had nothing to do with anything at all. And so she took away the soup and wanted to cut my eye out for me. I said no.

Once was a beautiful world in which people were so happy. The fact was that the cause of people's happiness was all the pretty pink flowers that breathed fire. Of course, that was before the flesh eating butterflies. I still remember when they came to the bar and drew forth little squirrels that attacked like the bunny from Monty Python. With intense vigor it flew into the skies and proceeded to burn to a crisp. Everyone was sad, because that was the last one. So, they made an ice scultpure on the college president's front lawn. After two hours, the crane decided he had had enough. He went to feed the squirrels. But in the end, he actually was eaten by them. Yet then the eaters became the eaten. The counter-attack was not very effective so we all went back to bed. With each other. So then they went bacl to the tennis house and had incredibly hot... chocolate. It was spiked with a railroad spike to the tree. "What are you doing?" Of course, the lumberjack paid no attention to the dryad who is behind the curtain, but Andy really didn't care. She's not actually planning on eating twenty seven crayons were the key to the antidote which would save her. They were: aqua, teal, macaroni and cheese, which broke the tension. So my pussy kept purring, which made him SUPER HAPPY! Mmm mmm Good he said, I LOVE THAT PUSSY! Eat freely. :)

~Excuse me while I take a break to frolic in the snow.~

Once upon a time there was a dragon named Sir Robert Neville, but he preferred to be called Custard, for reasons which shall be explained shortly. It was because of one bad batch of gravey. Then my whole life chanegd. The person to my right is a little bit fussy: Drinks were cold yet the anticipation was just not there. After a bland dinner, they decided not to make love, as it was just too cliche. Instead, he hitched a ride to Kalamazoo and found Waffles. There were two of them and they found out that love was just a myth. Like dragons and faeries. Except they do actually exist. But if they didn't then everything regarding them would be redundant. So, so, I kept repeated it a few more times because it seemed like a good idea idea at the time time. Too much sugar can lead to a serious sugar addiction like cat nip its so overrated and inexpensive. Unlike the previous Tuesday's game of bridge, today's game was sponsored by the Anatolian Action League for disinfranchised Turks. However, the found out that Maybel had a... well she should been named Peanut. Peanut was a rather silly name because of the rapid industrialisation of the Japanese Empire in the mid 1500's. This is why I ladled potato soup into the bowl, but then realized they were still out to get me and they all caught salmonella and died. The end.

More tomorrow. X-D
Noob Reporting in

I'm Darrin Drader and I'm doing nanowrimo this year.

I'm currently running a little behind, but not so far that it would be impossible to catch up - I'm at about 10,000 words at the moment. I lost a week due to some crazy stuff going on in my personal life.

A little about me, I'm a published writer who has cover credit on four books in the Dungeons and Dragons gaming line. I've also had original fiction published through the Wizards of the Coast website.

One of the books I worked on was D20 Apocalypse. This is a supplemental book I wrote for D20 Apocalypse, the modern sister game of Dungeons and Dragons. Though I was living in the Seattle area when I wrote it, I couldn't resist using Pullman as my location in the book. It's a shame they got the map upside down (shakes fists!) Because of my familiarity and love of the post-apocalyptic genre, my currently untitled nanowrimo novel is set in the same genre. I'm hoping not only to finish it up, but put it through editing and sell it through a new indie press I may set up through Lulu.com.

I grew up in Pullman and moved back here about a year ago after a decade-long absence. It's great to be back, and I'm currently distancing myself from game writing and getting into fiction. Sure, I could sell gaming stuff for a good long time and keep myself employed, but it was always my intention to be a novelist, not a game designer and it's time to shift gears.

Anyway, that's a little about me. Just thought I'd say hi.

VETERAN'S DAY MASSIVE WRITE IN @ BAGELS & BREW

Hi!

Well, I don't know about you, but I need to do some serious catching up. Now, I've been out of school for a while, so I'd totally forgotten that there aren't classes tomorrow.

I plan on showing up at Bagels & Brew at about Noon, and essentially, writing until my darn hand falls off. I should be there at LEAST until 6 p.m., if not until 9. Like I said, I have some *serious* catching up to do.

And for those of you who missed the Friday write in, Christina, the co-owner of the place, informed us that she made chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies JUST. FOR. US. I for one plan to be there, munching cookies shamelessly.

And by the way, you are perfectly welcome to our write ins as a NaNoer, even if you aren't strictly working on your novel. If you're actually studying, that's quite okay too. We just love your company. All we ask is that people keep the chatter down to a minimum so that people can concentrate -- which you already have been doing.

So I hope to see you there, and if not, Happy Veteran's Day. Write On, Nanoers, Write On!
Kick Off Party!

Hokay. So here's the earth.

And that little speck is Pullman. Where we're going to have a super-awesome kick off party.

What I would like from all of YOU (yes, you. I really do mean it.) is the times that absolutely won't work for you.

Potential kick-off party times:

A. Friday evening.
B. Saturday afternoon.
C. Saturday evening.
D. Sunday afternoon.
E. Sunday evening.

Please let us know what times you can't make it. (And yes, I know we've gotten a little bit of feedback about that, but pleeease post it here again to make it easier on us. *bats Bambi eyes*) Using our awesome powers of deductive reasoning, we shall pick a time that works for the most people.

In case anyone is confused, here are a few sample replies to this post:

"All these times work for me! Pick any of them!"

"None of those times work for me. I hate you right now. In fact, I'm going to name a character in my novel Jenny and I'm going to murder her in a very horrible way in November."

"Time B does not work for me. Please do not schedule the Kick Off Party on Saturday afternoon. If you don't, I'll bring you cookies."

etc.

Happy Writing,

Your Novel Update!

Ladies and Gentlemen, let us hear how your novel is going so far!

Are you soaring ahead with your wordcount, or already *gulp* behind? Is everything going as planned, or have the plot bunnies and their numerous progeny taken your plot and run off with it? Have your characters rebelled yet?

And most importantly... are there squirrels?

I'm happy to report that word-wise, I'm ahead of schedule! (Voices in the background: *yay*) However, right now, that is posing a serious problem because, 11,000 words in, basically the only thing my MMC has said to my FMC is: "Yes, my Lady." Drat. And he's got some serious hangups about nomenclature.

But there has already been one squirrel. Squirrels cover a multitude of authorial sins. =)

Hey all, Pat here. Just wanted to put it out there that i'll be at Denny's for the afternoon and early evening to get some writing done. If anyone stops by, I'll be in the bar wearing a classy suit.

I chose Denny's over B&B because I can get liquor here.
The Pullman Gossip Thread. ;-)

My mind was wandering the other night when I came up with a great idea.

Some of you have probably caught the KLXY 6 p.m. news broadcast, where they ask you a question and ask you to e-mail in and "sound off" your opinion. So this thread is the same thing, only much more random.

Gossip! Whatever you heard on the news that you want to gossip about, real gossip about people you know (or don't), even nonsense gossip that you've totally made up. By the time we're writing our novels, hopefully there'll be enough meat in this thread that we could come back to it and pick up ideas for lagging storylines.

So my gossip: Your friendly Pullman ML is an idiot. I went to soak my feet in hot water, only it was two hot. Now I have an enormous second degree burn on the bottom of my right foot. I'm really ticked at my own stupidity.
IMPORTANT--CHANGE OF KICK OFF PARTY LOCATION

Attention Pullman WriMos--

As some of you may have noticed... this is a football weekend. And because of the huge influx of crazy Cougers into the town, all the resturaunts are going to be ridiculously crowded and Denny's is not accepting reservations. *tear*

So the official time and place of the Kick Off Party NOW is:

6:00 Saturday at Bagels and Brew

(Bagels and Brew is located at 231 E Main Street)

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us (Nicole and Jenny)!! Sorry for the change in plans, and thanks in advance for being flexible!
Setting Regions and Profiles

Hi there!

For those of you who are new to NaNoWriMo or are having a bit of trouble navigating the site, I want to point out two features that are pretty handy for you, and especially handy for your friendly Municipal Liasons.

In the upper-right corner, you'll see a spot where you can edit your Profile. If nothing else, I'd love you forever if you were kind enough to me to put, "Pullman, WA" in your location (if that's where you're hailing us from.) That way when I use the search function, I can find you, and it will make it MUCH easier for me to add you as my new Writing Buddies. :)

Secondly and really much more important, of you click on the smokey-gray tab towards the left that reads, "My NaNoWriMo," you'll be taken to a "My Regions" tab. If you click on "Regions," you can find Pullman, WA, and any other regions you'd like to afilliate with. Once you're done there, "Click on "My Regions" again, and set Pullman, WA as your home region (again, if that's where you're hailing us from. THEN, any time I or Jenny send out a regional e-mail, you'll definitely recieve it!

Thanks so much for your help!
WSU Surplus Sale this Thursday, October 18th 8:30a.m. - 3:30p.m.

Hi!

I wanted to let you know that if you're looking for a used laptop or used computer, or computer part, or just about anything else, this Thursday at the Surplus Center there's going to the the monthly Surplus Sale. You're going to need to get there at least by 9a.m. to have any hope of getting a laptop, but it will be worth it because their used laptops go for about $40-80. WOW. There are going to be TONS of other stuff too, like good quality computer desk chairs for $10 or less.

Here's the link for it:
http://www.surplus.wsu.edu/sale

The menu on the left has directions, but its on the right on Wilson Road towards the Bears.

This is going to be the only sale relevant to NaNoWriMo, because they only hold their sales once a month, towards the end of the month.

Good luck finding what you need!
First Pullman Meeting

Hi!

Your friendly Pullman Municipal Liason here!

We have half a month before NaNoWriMo begins. I was wondering what your thoughts are regarding how soon you want to meet, AND/OR the NNWM Kick/Off Party. My personal suggestion is to keep the actual kick-off party closer to the start date, such as within the week before it or the day/night of. But that's absolutely no reason why we can't start arranging get togethers now. :)

If we decide not to meet before the Kick-Off Party, I'll eventually kill this thread and create a Kick-Off Party specific thread. Actually, I'll create one later regardless.

But this is already a great time to ask:

Do you know what your schedules are like?
Are your schedules pretty regular, or do they change from week to week or month to month?
Most importantly: What are GOOD DAYS and TIMES for you?

If you want to meet before the Kick-Off Party, please, suggest a date, time, and place!

Please note: I do not have a car, nor transportation at this time, so while I encourage you to attend both Pullman and Moscow meetings as you see fit, I'll only be arranging and attending Pullman get togethers this year.

Also please note: Sadly, the Pullman Regional Hospital has changed its security policy, and now it strictly enforces its visiting hours, which means they have a security guard kick out anyone who doesn't belong after 10:00 p.m., sharp. That pretty much limits any get togethers held at the Red Sage Cafe in the hospital to day time/early evening meetings ONLY. (Boo.)

Other places I can suggest on personal experience:

Denny's
Bagels & Brew (A new coffee/beer/bagel shop on Main Street.)
Zoe Cafe
Cafe Morro
That large study area in the Bookie.

Thoughts/suggestions?
