WRITE-INS FOR THE NEW YEAR!

Hi All,

There will be a write-in at Peets, Petaluma (eastside, not downtown) this Saturday.

January 5th, 2008 Sat.
10:00 - 12:00 AM
Peets in the Washington Square Shopping Center
So. McDowell Blvd in Petaluma

There will also be a write-in in a few weeks at Borders, Santa Rosa. Stay tuned for details.

This is probably the last time I will post the write-ins in the forum, at least for a while. If you would like to be added to an email list for future notifications, send a nanomail to Boo Boo with your private email address. Otherwise, happy writing, and I'll see you all in November.

Debbie

P.S. I just previewed this post before submitting. Check out the post date. On my preview, it says I'm posting this on December 31, 1969! And, as fate would have it, I remember exactly where I was on that day! How about you ? (for those of you old enough to have rung in that decade change!)

CONTINUING THE PEETS PETALUMA WRITE-INS

Hi all,

Congrats to all of us who have embarked on this crazy adventure. Whether or not we have crossed the 50,000 word finish line, I think the sheer bravery it takes to sit down and commit our hearts and souls to paper makes everyone a winner.

I've heard from a few folks that they would like to continue with the Peet's write-ins in Petaluma (see the "write-ins" postings for location.) I'm currently planning on hosting one on Saturday, Dec. 8th from roughly 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and we'll see where we go from there. Feel free to invite non-NaNoWriMo writing friends. The more the merrier!

If you would like to be on a regular (non-nano) email list for Peets write-in updates (as not everyone continues to visit the forums after Nov. 30th.), please send me your regular email address via NaNoMail to Boo Boo, and I will add you to my list. I also like to write at Borders, Santa Rosa, so that is a possibility too, but right now I'm focusing on Petaluma.

Hold your heads high, fellow wordsmiths! And, keep on writing!

They came. They wrote. Soon they will have conquered — and you are invited to their literary debuts!

Join us at Black Oak Books for this stupendous launch party for young local winners of National Novel Writing Month.

Not only will we hear a dozen brand new young novelists read from their just-completed first works, but as a very special treat they will share the stage with six published children’s authors! Acclaimed writers Daniel San Souci, Ruthanne Lum McCunn, Ji-Li Jang, Mary Jo See, Deborah Davis and Nydia Nicholl will read stories and share insights about the writer’s life.

Kids of all ages are invited to the celebration and can show off their own writing, poetry and art by bringing a page of their creative work to be displayed in the store. Adults are invited too! We’ll have winners’ crowns and author photos, plus raffle prizes, interactive art and science projects, snacks and tons of fun.

Everyone is a winner, and everyone is welcome! For more information, visit www.blackoakbooks.com.

WHO'S CROSSED THE FINISH LINE SO FAR?

After a bout of insomnia resulting in my fortuitous inability to sleep for the past twenty-four hours, I just now crossed the finish line! God, it feels good. I logged in over 8,000 words today, and that didn't take me 24 hours to do, more like about five or six. So take heart if you're behind in your word count. There are seven days left -- it's not too late.

See you when you "cross over," so to speak.

Rumor Regarding North Bay Write-In With Chris Baty

I'm not one to start rumors, but apparently I've managed to talk Chris into coming up to our neck of the woods to write with us next week!

I'm not putting it on the write-ins page just yet, 'cause I've got a day (Tuesday, November 27) and a time (Chris will be a little later on - maybe 8pm to help mitigate traffic issues coming from the East Bay) but not (really) a place. I suggested we hit one of the Novato locations - to help get him a little closer for the Sonoma County folks who want to come write with The Man, but I don't know exactly what that would be. Can someone Novato-wise please call the spot? If need-be we can back up to Aroma's in San Rafael, which I'm sure will work.

Chris is an awesome guy. Last year, after speaking to a group of (mostly NaNoWriMo) folks at the San Rafael Borders about 'No Plot? No Problem!', we grabbed a table in the coffee shop area and started kicking out words like crazy. It was great fun - and I encourage everyone who can to come out on the 27th, regardless of wordcount, to catch a little of that incredible vibe!

It could even be our official Sonoma-Marin Write-In. What do ya think?

Just for fun:

Write a character that can say only: "Yes" "No" or "Is that so?"

Help please

GA. I had a whole story worked out, and then I changed it, and changed it again, and now I am really, really stuck on what to do. I want to do this, really want to, but it's so hard to make the story come... I'm only fifteen and I have absolutely no one to go to for advice, and I'm starting to get frustrated with the lack of...everything. I don't know whether to stick with the previous story, or do a completely different one. I've lost all hope of finishing in time, and hope that maybe if I can get back on track and can just finish something before the end of the year.

Any tips or advice?
Anyone Carpooling to the marathon?!?!?!

I'm a motorcycle only person; I am a little afraid I will be too tired and cold to ride home safely after writing for 6 hours. I'm in San Rafael near the Marinwood exit. If anyone is going from north of me I would be thankful for a carpool spot.
I've been watching the messages about write-ins in the Sonoma-Marin area, but see none from the Napa Valley. Come on, I know there must be NaNo-ers out there from this part of the world! I don't use a laptop, so would be limited as far as write-ins are concerned, but would be interested in getting to know other writers in this area, and maybe even form or join a writers' group.

I don't see many posts here about what we are working on. I am writing my second novel in the fantasy genre - or more aptly, "fanciful." This one is about a woman who, wanting to find out who she is, is whisked off to another world where she meets a bear. I'm having a lot of fun with it, but am seriously thinking that the next effort should be about humans!

Susan

I'm happy to inform you that the AUTHOR SEARCH function is back up and running! You can now navigate your way to find all the NaNo-ers you can possibly wish to find from the top navigation bar on the site. You should now see AUTHORS between ABOUT and MY NANOWRIMO.

Can We Have A Local Adopt-a-newbie program?

The Adopt-a-newbie thread is incredibly long and frustrating. They don't post when they have been adopted so it's confusing and time consuming to say the least.

If there are any Newbies wanting a buddy/mentor for this year's Nanowrimo, please reply here.

Anyone that has won a NaNoWriMo previously can contact anyone wanting a buddy/mentor. Please use Private Message to contact the person with any of your info/selling points.

If you want a mentor/buddy and you get one, please post back here so we know who still needs someone.

This is the only way I can think of making it happen for us locally as we seem to not have an ML.

I hope this makes sense.

Word Pirates and NaNoWriMo

Hiya. My writing group, Word Pirates (in Petaluma), are doing NaNoWriMo this month too. Five of our members are doing it in some form or another (we sort of took licenses with it, although I'm working on a novel and so are a couple of other members). Are any other local writing groups doing it too? Just curious.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi, and mention that we're looking for a new member if anyone is interested in checking us out after NaNoWriMo is over. We meet twice a month, the first and third Thursday of each month, at my house in Petaluma. We're looking for people who are professional writers or are serious about publishing. If you're interested, check out the website: www.wordpirates.org.

WRITE-INS @ the NEW Peets Coffee in Petaluma

This write-in will be at the NEW Peets Coffee in the Washington Square Shopping Center, corner of McDowell Blvd and Washington Street. Easy access from the freeway, north or south. Peets is to the left of the Safeway, across from Wamu Bank. I checked with them today about bringing extension cords or power strips, as they only have two outlets. They said OK. This Peets is huge, lots of space and tables....you could use the center of it as a dance floor. I'll be there this Saturday wearing my NaNo t-shirt and drinking lots and lots of tea! They also have great coffee and pastries. Hope to see some of you there.

Day: Saturdays, 11/10, 11/17, 11/24
Time: 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (or whenever)

Happy Writing....

YOUR INFO NEEDED

We have no ML. I would do it but I am pretty frustrated with the powers that be for not being more organized when I volunteered to do this in October. So here's the deal:

I will organize as much as I can for you guys. Let me know what you need, when, where, etc. and I will try to get it going for you. Please contact me by PM.

I will send out tips, tricks, challenges, dares, and encouraging notes to you via your own private email (okay, I'll list them here too but they may get lost). What I need from you is a private message with your First Name or whatever you want me to call you, your non Nano email addy (it will be BCC'd so no one will get it but me), any other info you want to give me, including phone number so that I can contact you with any breaking news on write-ins, etc., that might occur.

Once I hear from you, you will be on my list and I will also give you my private email addy and phone info.

How's that sound?

I will start a thread on WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 7. I will call it BREAK TIME NEWS. THIS WILL HAVE ANY INFO AND TIPS, ENCOURAGEMENT, ETC., THAT I CAN COME UP WITH.

THE CHALLENGES AND DARES WILL REMAIN IN THAT THREAD THAT I CREATED.

No ML Love For the North Bay?

I sent an email today to Erin the "ML headmistress" for Nanowrimo to find out what the deal is going to be with Marin-Sonoma not having a Municipal Liaison. Not that I'm volunteering! I have two kids under two, people. Obviously, we are all capable of moderating our own posts and organizing our own unofficial write-ins, however I miss the ML email encouragement, the "official" voice and banter that goes on when you have a good ML. (San Francisco has Rob/Gallifreyan who I love so I signed up with SF as my home region in order to get his fun packed emails since we aren't getting any.)

If she emails me back (no one hold their breath), I'll let you know what she says.
