How's everyone holding up so far?

So, how are we all doing? Chugging along at a steady pace? Barely making daily goals? Or moving along at hyper speed?

Usually I'm barely making minimum this year. Dont' know what's wrong with me, but I've been having trouble finding the time to write. Ah, the joys of a college senior: no time and a million and one things to do.

Shreveport/Bossier Write-In

Alrighty folks!

I am proposing a Shreveport/Bossier area writing this Saturday (11/7/09) from 4:30 to 8 p.m. (because that's the time they close) at Cupcake Gallery -7436 Youree Dr in Shreveport.

I've already asked permission there and they said come on by. They have free internet and cupcakes as well. They don't have sandwiches or anything so if you want something other than cupcakes, eat first.

Also, can someone please set up a write-in in Bossier? Maybe at Books-A-Million? Wanna make sure we alternate.

How do you guys feel about write-ins during the week? Do you want me to see if we can have one sooner that Saturday?

Last Call for the Bayou Writers Group Conference

Hey Gang, I've totally lost control of my NaNoWrMo project this year -- just too many things going. If I can settle down next week, I'll try to write some just to add to our word count as a whole.

On another note, if any of you are coming to the BWG conference tomorrow, please say hello to me, I'd love to meet you. If you don't know about it and want to attend, go to http://www.bayouwritersgroup.org to download a brochure. It's $50 at the door; full time students get in for $25. Check out today's MARQUEE in the American Press; there's a good article about BWG and the conference by Laura Heller.

Yeah, I know it's an all day thing and you'll lose a day of writing, but ... you'll be in a room full of writers. :D

What night(s) are good for you for write-ins this year? I'm free most of the week and I imagine we'll probably be back at the campus library. If not then we'll have to plan something else. Give any ideas; I'm open to anything and everything.

Monroe write-in, anyone?

I don't know about you other Monrovites, but Shreveport is a little far for me. I drive a scooter, and with the weather lately, I'd end up horribly sick or stuck in a ditch somewhere. It seems like there's a few of us; how about a write in here in Monroe? BAM, local or ULM library, Leah's on Louisville -they have free wifi, plenty of seating, AND delicious pie! Write-ins are fun, productive, and a great morale booster, and I'd love to have a couple this November, if my co-Monroe dwellers are game. Thoughts?

Elsewhere/BR Word Wars

Hello, everyone! How are you all tonight?

I was just sent a message by the new ML for the Baton Rouge region asking about the Elsewhere/BR annual word wars. I know a few are you are ready to go on them, but the Red Sticks want to do something different with their write-ins so they propose a different challenge.

Here's the BR ML's message to me proposing their new challenge:

I am writing for the first time but I am also a mass communications major and I was thinking of writing a story on NaNoWriMo for a class but I need interviews with various people who are participating (experienced and new) and some overseers of regions. Yeah, you know it. Out here near Denham Springs but just off the map in Walker a small cult following of NaNoWriMo participants are gathering. I know of only two, but I can feel my school must posses more! Regardless, if you live in the general area, feel free to drop a line. NaNoWriMo is 10x more fun with others rather than alone!

There's a plethora of sites available such as Joe Muggs, Starbucks, the main library, just to name a few. It's just a question of organization! Are we all gearing up for November, getting ready for 30 days of lovely, happy insanity?

For an introduction, I'm WitchyRobyn or Robyn. I live in Natchitoches attending NSU. I'm in my final year as a literature major with a specialty in Native American lit. I'm married, no kids, but one cat that thinks he's a kid. I have no idea what I'm writing this year, but I've got a cople of plot bunnies floating around. I've been doing NaNo for five years and have won the past two.

What music do you listen to when you write? Do you listen to whatever's on, do you have a playlist, or do you prefer silence?

What songs do you recommend? (Don't worry about including silly songs! Share them! It just may inspire the next great chapter in our stories!)

Personally I just set my iTunes on random and let it go. Sometimes the music fades into the background and other times I'll hear a line or phrase and it pushes me forward in my writing.

I'm super excited this year for NaNo to start. This is my first year registering in Louisiana so I'm excited to see how we organize down here.

So I'm wondering whether there will be any write-ins? I live in Shreveport a good place I think would be Cupcake Gallery on Youree in Shreveport or Books-A-Million in Bossier City.

I'm Dotsmom. This is my second year participating in NaNoWriMo; I did win last year and have been revising my novel ever since.

I live in Coushatta, LA, am an instructor at LSUS in Shreveport, where I teach English--mostly composition and literature. I've been teaching there since 2001.

I have a few friends from Shreveport, and we may start our own group, but I thought I'd check in here, since I'm about midway between Natchitoches and Shreveport.
