Favourite unexpected thing so far?

Man it's quiet in here, hope we're all busy writing away!!!

My favourite unexpected development so far is a group of characters I invented on the fly. One was spontaneously named 'Hitchens,' and so I decided to name the rest of them after other scientists/sciencebloggers, and so Myers, Dawkins, Orac, Brayton and Zimmer all showed up.

So three days later, I spontaneously killed them all but two of them; one survived the ordeal by playing dead, and I decided he will be the character that warns my MC later on that the Big Baddie is coming back later on. The other is killed, but I decided that he the first incarnation of a psionic parasite that I'd planned on introducing much, much later. Overall, the whole thing added more character development for my MC than I ever could have purposely dreamed up.

It was awesome.

Anyone else have anything fantastically awesome surprise them while they were writing?

Motivation anyone?

Hi Everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself and throw in my two cents. My name is Jenny and I come from the Grimsby area. I first heard about NaNoWriMo on New Years Eve last year, when I was searching amazon.ca for a good writing book to buy myself since nobody had gotten me one for Christmas and came across Chris Baty's "No Plot? No Problem!" which I promptly bought and read eagerly. It motivated me so much that I quickly signed up for NaNoWriMo and have been waiting for 10 months to participate in my first NaNoWriMo! Now that it's here I'm scared and excited and am currently reading No Plot No Problem for the 5th time in case I missed anything exciting. I can't believe how fast time flies!

I have been an aspiring writer since I told my grade 3 teacher I was going to be an author when I grew up...but here I am, dragging myself to a boring office adminstration job every day with nothing published and about 3 unfinished novels sitting on my hard drive. Does anyone else have major motivational problems? That's the main thing that seems to hold me back...but now that November's here I'm determined to see this thing through!

William's Coffeee Pub on the corner of Dorchester and Thoraldstone Rd, Niagara Falls.

Now, there's a wee little challenge that I, your faithful ML has encountered. Demagis, CrimsonKurs, and I have to go dress shopping in Toronto. So the three of us may be a little later then 7pm. But just because you don't see us, that's ok! We WILL be there. Just look for other people sittling there with their laptops awkwardly looking up every time someone walks in the door, they're more then likely part of NaNo.

Or if someone get's smart, they can print off a NaNo write-in meet sheet and fold it on the table for everyone to see, and save the slight awkwardness. *grin* just a suggestion.

See you guys tomorrow!!! (I hope there'll be more then last week.) The more people writing together, the more creative we'll become! Plus, there's the added bonus of being able to get some help and input.

If you post in any of the forums, I get notification on my phone so if you need to get a hold of me for rides purposes or anything, I'll be a keypad away!

I was so excited today. Star Bucks at the Fairview Mall was under renovations for a few weeks so today was the first time I've been able to go since it reopened. For the most part it's nice. The chairs are more comfortable to sit in but I was disappointed in one thing; they took my writing spot away which was the big table. The space is there where the table was but I was very crushed by that. The table was so much fun and you got to meet people too while you were there. That table was my fav spot to write now I have to find another. What's your fav spot to write?

I spent the day staring at the blank notepad, both physical and digital. So in all technical senses of the word, the survived, but I don't have a word count, yet.

Plot Bunnies

So, the Procrastination Station on the NaNo home page has a topic about Plot Bunnies.

Which led to a number of NaNo totems varring from Plot Cockroaches to Plot Tribbles and everything in between. So what I want to know is what you Plot Critter is and why?

ie. Mine is a Zombified Plot Platypus. Everyone that knows me would assume it's because I'm building a Platypus army and am paranoid about the impending Zombpocalypse. But that's not why.
Zombies are:
hard to kill
wont stop coming
you inevitably run out of amo and become one of them
and it takes a well placed head shot to kill them.

Platypi (multiple of Platypuses) are:
twisty, trixie critters you shouldn't trust
There's no way they could have evolved without a dieties influence
they have poison filled claws they wont hesitate to sink into you
they're adorable beyond all reason

And this NaNo with the ideas that are flying at me, it's going to take a well placed head shot to stop me. And trust me, once I start writing, I'm twisty and trixie! Mwahahahahahahahaaaaaa!

Sunday evenings at Williams Coffee Pub in Niagara Falls.
It's located on the corner of Dorchester and Thoraldstone Road. It's in the plaza with Rogers Video.

It's going to happen on November 1st, after our first writing session!
I've done some talking, some shamoozing, some kiss butting (to one of my best friends) and I got the thumbs up!
Niagara's Heartland Forest is going to welcome us with open bows for our kick off Bonfire!
It's cheep, environmentally friendly, fun, and most importantly, CHEEP!!!!

So dress warmly!
Sweaters, long johns, you know, dress Canadian.
Even bring a light blanket just in case. I'll have a few extras with me if anyone's cold and needs one.

Hello everyonnee. My name is Kendra, I'm 13 years old, an aspiring author, and I live in Welland!

I heard about NaNoWriMo last year, but I only did it for fun and didn't enter anything. But I just found a page on Gaia today, and it reminded me. Thank god I found that page before November 1st. Still, this only gives me a little over a day to plan out my story to get ready for November, and tomorrow's Halloween!

I'm thinking about Writers' Block, and how I always get it at the most inconvienient times. And, nothing ever seems to shake that block away.

What do you guys do to break through writers' block?

Hi everyone, I'm kerrwyvern, more commonly known as Ellie, Ella, and Crow. I'll be your ML for this year and am looking forward to writing with you guys!

Now I know that there is Niagara and St Kitts people involved witH NaNo this year and I wanted to set up writing dates for both! Yes, in both cities. Anyone have any ideas as to where we can all meet? Free WiFi is an added bonus!

One may have noted by now, I am a) a product of the 80's and all stigmas that come with it, and b) pop culture has bled heavily into my every day speech. And yes, I do speak fluent Buffy.

I'm curious how some of the veterans around here prepared for their novels. Did anyone go for the pre-prepared outline approach or has spontaneity been the rule?
