Write-Ins, Groups and Get-Togethers: Post Them Here!

This thread will be dedicated to announcing regular and impromptu Write-ins, Support & other types of groups, and Get-togethers prior to and throughout November (and possibly beyond). Please be sure to include: What, Where and When, and how to get there. A contact person would also be useful, as well as any possibilities for carpooling.

PLEASE NOTE: Even if you have announced one of the above group activities elsewhere already, I would ask you to post the information again here, to make it easier for people to find. We can then make sure that it ends up in the EVENTS listing for Maine, as well.

Thanks!

Our yearly sound-off!

Yup, I'm back asking who everyone is.

I'd like to know who's participating this year and a little bit about y'all.

I'll start...

- I'm Kendra, but most everyone calls me Ken.
- This will be my *sigh* 5th NaNo.
- I have won the past 4 years and am very excited for this year.
- This will be my 3rd year as ML for Southern Maine.
- Normally I write Y/A paranormal/romance, but this year I'm trying a mid-grade fantasy.
- I do a lot of preparations for NaNo and find, for me, it makes it a lot easier.
- I'd like to meet as many new people as possible as well as see the regulars come out and join us for get togethers and Write-Ins this year.

If anyone needs anything, please feel free to ask, that's what us MLs are for. Don't hesitate and I'll do anything I can to help.

One more thing... We have a weekly Write-In at Panera in Westbrook that's been going on every Sunday since the start of NaNo '05. Please come out and join us, even before the start of NaNo. We'd love to meet you.

Keep an eye and the calendar for other events that will be set up for the wild ride that is NaNo.

Ken
February Nanowrimo!

Me and 6-8 of my friends and schoolmates, as well as several others from this site and other random people, are going to be doing a February Nanowrimo. It's loose, though the wordcount is still hopefully set at 50k. I'm building on my November novel. Stop by the nanocomo forums at http://www.nanocomo.org or check out the thread in the BFS forum if you want to join us :) Or just send me a message on here.
NaNoCoMo

An awesome site just started up recently, made by one of the this years NaNoWriMo participants. It's a year long thing, extending the writing month to pretty much any you want with a base word goal of a slightly easier 30k. Just thought I'd share the link in case anyone is interested. (There's already another member there from Maine and we've got our own small thread in the regions section which could turn into a sub-forum if more of us join.)

Did you know?

We meet in the Southern Maine area every Sunday at the Westbrook Panera.
Next year a group of us will be editing one of our NaNo novels, hopefully for publication.
We have been hanging out together since before 2005 (well, some of us even longer!)

Join today! Keep in touch!
Hooray! We survived!

Congratulations to everyone for surviving November! For me, it was just the beginning of my novel and at this moment I'm sitting at Panera in Westbrook getting ready to pick up where I left off and continue the story, as there's so much more to tell.

If you started a story that you haven't finished yet, but you've fallen in love with it, I encourage you to continue writing it--get it told. There's still plenty of support to be gotten and given here and through the Nano Maine yahoo group.

I would also strongly encourage those write-ins that got started in November to keep going. There's nothing like a weekly write-in to prompt you to keep at it.

If tomorrow (Friday) at midnight there was not a mass exodus out of here. It would be really cool if people could hang around and share what Nano has been like for them, rather than disappearing for another 10 or 11 months. These forums run all year round.
Correction & Directions to Hacienda Pancho Villa for TGIO party

First, directions:

From the Maine Turnpike:

Take exit 45, but continue straight through rather than taking the Maine Mall exit after the toll. Don't take any other exits off, either.

The road should take you directly to Main Street in South Portland, where it ends. Governor's will be directly across the intersection.

Take a left onto Main Street.

The restaurant is # 671 Main Street on the left, just up the street after the left turn.

Second, the Mexican restaurant that we are all referring to as Hacienda Pancho Villa does not have that name. The sign out front says Mexico Lindo and has the words "Bienvenidos Amigos" on it. Nowhere does it say Hacienda Pancho Villa, so don't make the mistake of passing it by and assuming that you'll find it farther down the road...because you won't.

See everyone there at 6!

Portland Area TGIO Party!

At last week's Westbrook Write-In people were asking and talking about what we're doing this year. I was surprised at how many people were interested in going out for Mexican food this year!

So I have made some phone calls to figure out who could accomidate our group. While Margaritas is known to a lot of people, they don't think they can fit us in. They are usually mega busy on Saturday nights, and we are planning this for Saturday December 1st @ 6PM. Usually there are 15-20 of us!

After all our discussions and the phone calls I made this week the decision has been made to go to Hacienda Panco Villa in South Portland! I've heard good things about their food and that their menu is huge, so even people (like me) who are not hugely into Mexican food should be able to find something yummy to eat.

From here I need to know who's going to be joining us. I need to know, hopefully by Wednesday, who will be going and how many people you will be bringing with you. Please, feel free to bring boy/girlfriends, husbands, wives, friends! This is a time to celebrate, hang out and have fun after the struggle that is NaNo!

Post here if you will be coming and how many of you there will be total.

Ken

PS - Ellie, I already have you counted!
Tri-State Challenge!

We have been challenged!

I got an email from the Vermont ML challenging us to a Word War!

Last year Vermont and NH were involved and this year they want us too. (NH doesn't have an ML yet, but that should be fixed very soon.)

It's a little different from the Word War we had with DC last year, but it sounds like great fun.

Basically we'll be inviting anyone who wants to participate to let us know in this thread and we'll go from there.

There's two categories - 1 - Total words. 2 - Words per participant. The second category is so that the state with the lowest number of participants still has a chance to win a category.

We'll be collecting word counts from all participating a couple times throughout the month so we can keep track of how we're doing. So make sure you keep your word counts up to date!

If you're interested, please let me know with a reply to this thread and we can go from there. I think it's a great way to pull us all together, show our state pride, trash talk with our neighbors and show those other two states who's boss around here!

Ken
The Not-Quite-Winners (Less than 50k)

For those of us who don't stand a chance of reaching 50,000 words by tomorrow night... we can drink up the last of our caffeinated beverages and finish off our November-dedicated snacks together! No matter how far we fell short, so long as we started and have the barest smidgen of a blue line, we are still winners for joining in on the month-long insanity that is NaNoWriMo.

So!

How do we all feel? :P

I am recovering from a cold and feel pretty apathetic about not crossing the finish line this year. Yeah, it would've been nice. It just didn't work out that way. *raises a glass of OJ*
Nano in the news!

Hey everyone,
Check out the midcoast writers in the newspaper!

The article was in the Camden Herald, Republican Journal/Waldo Independent (Belfast), and the Courier Gazette (Rockland), on Thanksgiving.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and an incredibly productive writing weekend! Last week, here we go!

WOO!

I didn't post in the forums, and I wasn't a presence here in the Maine section, but this is still where I owe my alliegiance and thanks. See you all next year!

Time to Get Out the Pom-poms!

Mainers,

We are all over the place as far as word count goes. Out of the 157 Maine writers with word counts, only 26% have at least 30k. There are probably as many excuses...er, I mean reasons...for that as there are people, but I'm here to ask:

How can we help you boost your word count?

A cheering section complete with pom-poms and megaphone? Hold you personally accountable for writing each day? Get you to a write-in where you can write uninterrupted for several hours? Stand over your shoulder with arms folded tapping an impatient foot? Regular word wars here on the Maine forum?

Those 74% of you out there who need a boost--How can we help?
