For the Pre-NaNo and kick-off, specifically, when not everyone knows everyone else.

Would you guys like name tags, or would you run a mile at the very thought of it?

Nay.

If we'd had them a couple of years back things could have been different, but not so much so that I'd actually consider wearing one. Easier just to make certain faces known to new people as the old hands who can introduce them to everyone.

hey!
i think the tricky bit is finding out what real name relates to what screen nickname. i am still never 100% sure if that funny girl's name is kitty or fran or theonewiththesaucystuff....?? i guess we should encourage everyone to point at whoever they want to talk to and shout "yo! you with the silly t-shirt!" or similar (shouting will be necessary if i remember previous november meets correctly!).

Can I just laugh?

At Julia's comment, that is. =P

I say, we've managed well enough before, so I don't think we need them again.

... And now I'm even more gutted that I won't be there at the pre-NaNo. :(

That was the general idea behind the statement :P

It's more a personal matter - of things that could have been avoided, details that could have been changed. Still not reason enough to actually want name tags...

Nothing to do with the group as a whole, who are crazier than a sack of rabid ferrets indeed lots of fun ;)

Just noticed there’s a meet tomorrow. As I’m in London for the pre-kickoff meet and two of the other weekends are taken up (bonfires, fireworks and wedding), I’ll try to make tomorrow.

For what it’s worth, I’m but not bothered about a name tag, I’ll just be looking scared in the corner. ;)

Look forward to seeing you then!

And don't worry, pretty much EVERYBODY has at least one day where they sit scared in the corner. At least until they learn that we're all cool, really. ;]

Man, I remember my first meet... *sounds really old, even though it was only two years ago XD*

I don't do name tags (this may have been noticed previously)

As for matching up names, I have a simple question when somebody mentions that sort of thing. And very often they can't tell me what they actually mean by 'real name' :-)

I'm not that fussed about name tags myself. I tend to go with everyone else on this one. I have not got a clue if I'll be able to make all the meets in november, though it would be cool, but I should be at the one this weekend, and the pre-nano one.

I'm easy enough to remember - curly hair, often in a ponytail and slightly on the messy side and I wear glasses...that and I take a notebook absolutely everywhere with me (except the bathroom). I've even got one sitting next to me right now.

Frankly, for someone looking scared in the corner, you did a pretty damn fine job of not looking particularly scared nowhere near the corner... :p

I think we do fine without name badges. Sure, there's always someone whose name you forget (or everyone's), but they sink in sooner or later. Hopefully.

I'm curious, does anyone actually know my name? I don't recall ever mentioning it, except for my surname at the meet today (sparked from the jar of Colman's Mustard).

You know, I'm actually not sure. I have the vaguest recollection that you may have mentioned it in a previous meet. Or I might be making that up. :p
I tend to remember someone's name (as long as I'm not being introduced to a dozen people at once), either if I'm actually told it, or if I hear it in passing enough times...

Lorna methinks. Easily and often confused with Laura? Did know it, and had heard you mention it in passing at the meet, but mostly remember through seeing you join the group on facebook :P

(Unless you're someone else entirely...)

I'll admit to exaggerating slightly my nervousness about coming. Then again, getting let in to a locked room and talking about walking around the streets of Nottingham preaching to people prepared me for most things. ;)

It was good to meet everyone, and, no, I have very little idea of people’s names were but it barely matters. What I do know is that you're all as mad as a church, but that's a good thing IMO. Getting people to leave a pub due to our loud conversations and its content reminded me of BBS meets in the early 1990s when a group of us used to sit around and talk about roleplaying and people would look at us and whisper.

While I can't make the pre or start meets I'll be along for the others and I'm unlikely to be quiet in these forums. :)

I don't mind nametags if it makes things easier. :)

Tomorrow, is it? We're going in to the Robin Hood Pageant at the castle, so I might just pop in and say hello. :)

Yup, the pre-NaNo is tomorrow, then it'll be every Saturday in November. The rest of the year we meet up the first Saturday every month. Looking forward to meeting you! :D

That would be me...though when I'm writing I can easily be someone else entirely (warning, if I start crying in a meet, it's because I've just killed a character...or am in the process of killing one...or writing the funeral of the character I just killed...)
