Post any suggestions you have for the two parties or various write-ins here.
For the past couple of years, we've had the kick off at my house, which I absolutely love holding, but if an overwhelming number of you would like to go elsewhere, we certainly can.
Write-ins tend to be held at coffee shops around town, and I definitely intend to hold one at the Panera on Nicholasville Rd this year, but any other suggestions (especially times when you can definitely be there!) are greatly appreciated.
Just let us know what interests you most, and we will try to oblige!
EDIT: How does October 27th or 28th (a Monday or Tuesday) sound to the group? These are good non-Halloween days for me.

Okay, stupid question time again: Is the kick-off party on Oct. 31st? If so, I unfortunately have too many commitments that day (work, Thriller, Rocky) to be able to participate. :(
As for the write-ins, I don't know if I'll attend any because a) I don't have a laptop and writing by hand means I have to take the extra time to transcribe it at some point, and b) I can't write if I have any distractions, particularly other people and noise in general (I swear, it's nearly impossible for me to write and listen to music at the same time... ^_^;) Now, if I'm completely stuck somewhere, I might swing my and pester other folks for awhile... ;)

We haven't decided on a date for the Kick-off yet. Sometimes we hold it on Halloween, sometimes not, just depends on what more people want.
I'm inclined to hold it either the 30th or 31st, because it's close to NaNo that way, but we could always hold it sooner if that's where the interest lies.

I vote NOT for Halloween; I have two wee folk who will go around with their DF and I'll have to stick around to hand out the loot. But what do I know, I just moved here and joined this group!

I think two solid votes for not-Halloween make a pretty good case, in my opinion.
My post reflects two possible other dates. Everyone let me know if either of those would work for you.

If possible, I'd prefer the Monday date; I've got night classes on Tuesday, and Halloween is a holiday for me, so I'll be with family in Frankfort.

The Monday works best for me; my True Love is off that night, which means either that we can attend en famille or he can stay home and watch the girls while I go out and party.
But of course it means I can't come in my Halloween costume, so nobody will recognize me.

Kick-off: Monday'd be preferred for me but tuesday is doable.
as far as write-ins are concerned, i for one propose we try to hold one Sunday Afternoon the Second. as far as where.... i'm not so sure.

I vote monday as well.
For write ins, school hours are best for me. I will be coming along just to pester people, mostly, as my computer is chained to a desk (Mwaa haa haa).
BTW, what's TGIO?

Don't worry about not writing at Write-Ins. It's theoretically possible, and I may have witnessed it once, but it's also true that Write-Ins can equally be about imbibing caffeine and trading lofty thoughts with other writers. I, too, have no laptop and can't write with any conversation or music with lyrics going on, but I attend Write-Ins because someone there might know the Serbian word for "surrender", or the last six Spanish kings, or the chemical formula for PhenFen. (OK, I happen to live with someone who could answer the first two of those, but he's asleep right now....)
Write-Ins are also a good time to do "cat vacuuming", or all the stuff that you do to write without actually writing anything. Like figuring out family trees and chronologies, drawing costumes for the miniseries based on your novel, dividing the map of your planet into time zones complete with telephone area codes, and giving every minor character a middle name, birthplace, and social security number.
If you're in a bind with one of your characters, take him to a Write-In and see what he orders, whether he likes it, and what he thinks of the loudmouth in the Bengals sweatshirt at the next table.
And if you're feeling bad, well, someone at the Write-In will have a lower wordcount than you have, or will have scrapped the first seven thousand words and twelve days of NaNoWriMo last year and gone on to finish an entirely different novel than the one they started, or have even more lame excuses than you have for not having written at all. That always makes a guy feel better.
So I hope we see you there!

Panera definitely works for me, as it's within comfortable walking distance. I'm pretty much free or able to free myself most days and times, the one exception being Wednesdays. School days are wonderful; evenings generally mean I'd have to be back before nine as my True Love works nights. Weekends are generally lovely, as I can stick the kids with their father or drag them along (they're usually pretty good in public).
I can go anywhere in the Regency area without help, but otherwise I don't have a vehicle and would have to hook a ride with someone.
I'm also going to tentatively offer my apartment for weekday Write-Ins. I have a good size dining room table to work on, and may possibly have a second computer set up by November.

I am afraid that I am boxed in with obligations that entire weekend (with a subsequent loss of writing time, natch). Will there be a regular write-in sometime on the weekend? Say, on the 9th?
I prefer Common Grounds for the larger space and number of available outlets, but can be flexible.

i have been kind of quiet but working too hard too much and getting ready for vacation. I think i am going to miss all the kick offs because i am leaving for vacation on the 28th and won't be back till the 7 of November then i have to go to work the next day...
but i hope we have some write ins on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursdays those are my days off. or anytime after 7:00pm on saturdays. I am not sure but on my days off i might be able to offer some one a ride if they need it. I have a company pick up truck so can only put in one other person. but i offer this up to anyone who needs it.
