Last Great Push Part 1

Hi Guys,

Just saw that there is no official start time for the all day write in this Friday on the events calendar.

I will be heading to Starbucks for about 11am if you want to co-ordinate with that kinda time. I would be there earlier being an all day write in and all, but as I'll be in work till 1am the night before, I'll need some sleepy-sleep first.

I'll have to leave around 7pm as I have my annual Thanksmas Dinner with my brother and our friends (Thanksmas = Thanksgiving and Christmas combined to create a potluck bonanza wowza feast of wonderous delights!), but I think most folk should have moved to Spoon for the evening word bash by that point, so I won't be abandoning too many of you guys I hope. I may also have to run out for about half an hour to visit M&S at some point during the latter part of the write in as I am in charge of the 'Thanksmas Junk Food Platters', which basically means I have to buy 'gourmet' pizza, chips and crisps or something like that, but I'll come straight back to write a little bit more I promise! :)

So, basically the above transpires into 11am-7pm at Starbucks. If you want to come earlier or stay later thats awesome (early birds try and grab the usual tables for us if you can) and I'll see you there around 11am.

There may be a slight delay in the War starting up, as we're reliant on the site API working and the site is notoriously slow during the first few days of Nano, plus we're running it in a slightly different way this year and I'm not sure what problems will crop up because of that. In addition, one of Anne's cats is very seriously ill at the moment, so she may not have time to work on it. I'll be in touch with her and will let all the relevant MLs know if we have to make other arrangements at all. I'll also be in touch when I know the URL of the leader board. :-)

memory stick woes...

A cautionary tale for my fellow wrimos....

I lost my memory stick on the way home last night. I'm lucky enough to have the work I've done so far saved to my hard drive and also in email form but the memory stick is gone (probably for good, unless some honest soul hands it into the cops).

This memory stick contained my nanos for the past 3 years, plus countless other short stories and practically every other project I've worked on. Now I am plagued by the thought that someone, somewhere, could be reading or using my work. *shudder*

Please don't let this happen to you. Keep an eye on your memory sticks!

Hi :)

Could you all, when you reach 50k, send me a little note (add me as a buddy if you need to) and tell me when you crossed that magical line, and you can be put up on the board on the website....

I hope you are all doing well as we kick into the final couple of weeks. It can only be said that it will be massively close. The gap between Napier and Edinburgh Uni is 169 words in favour of Edinburgh at the moment. It really is that close.

To all those in Edinburgh Uni as well, either later today or tomorrow, we should also cross the Half a Million word mark, just through the Uni word war participants, which is a huge number!! Pat yourself on the back when we have...

Keep it up chaps, it's been brilliant so far!!

Nov 27th - All Day Write In

Hey Guys,

I have the entire day off work on the 27th Nov so have decided to have an all day write in to ensure I hit the big 50,000.

Who wants to join me? I haven't thought of a place to go yet so all suggestions welcome. Anywhere in the centre of town would be great as it seems to be central for most folk and has good bus/train links for the one or two of you living out in the sticks.

So, what do you think? Say 11am start - finish when our typing/writing fingers begin to bleed? :)

Unofficial Write-ins on UoE Campus!

There seem to be quite a lot of students in general kicking about this year, and since we all love procrastinating on our assignments and note-writing-up, I reckon we should have some sneaky wee write-ins on campus! I need some more crazy people to prove to me this is possible~

I'm not sure what the best venue would be -- maybe Teviot or the library, possibly somewhere off campus that's open (ie Beanscene or Chocolate Soup) if we're doing evening write-ins. Don't know about everyone else, but my timetable is subject to a lot of variation -- Wednesday afternoons or evenings would be good but I could probably just about make most any evening given fair warning.

Gie'z some suggestions and best times, and we'll sort out something weekly or bi-weekly or something, depending~ :]

hi, i would love to come to the write in at starbucks or any venue but i have difficulty with stairs. please could you change the official write in's to a disabled friendly venue. there is another sturbucks a few shops down above waterstones which has a lift or one on gorge street round the corner if starbucks is the venue of choice.

I was very productive at today's write in - 3,300 words in 3 hours. I still have a lot of catching up to do, but it was a good chunk! I'm sad to say that I won't be able to make it to any more write ins because I am leaving early next week to go to Poland for a few weeks (applying for UK visas) and have a lot of preparations beforehand. I just want to wish everyone luck on the rest of NaNoWriMo!

In my role as 'social bitch' for the group, I'm going to organise a night out for any writer who's interested. This usually entails finding a place where everyone can find something they want to eat on the menu, on a date when everyone can make it (it could be lunch or an evening meal, depending on the responses I get).

So, over to you:

I need to know what days you can make it in the first week in December
(Tuesday 1st - Saturday 5th?)

What times would you prefer?
(say, after 6.30pm Tue-Fri, any times on Sat?)

Where do you want to eat?
(and is there anywhere you want to veto?)
(NB: I really don't care *why* you want to veto a place; I just need to know the places to avoid)

Italian? Spanish? Mexican? Indian? Veggie? Cheap'n'cheerful?

Let the discussion commence!

(By the way, for those in the know, this is NOT the night out that involves the miniskirt challenge or the 'dress to take yourself/others out of your/their comfort zone' thing... that will take place in January.)

Has anyone been having random things happen in their novel that weren't planned for?

On Thursday I discovered that my duo of bounty hunters are also gay lovers. I also think they might be Irish, but I'm not sure. It may just be because another character compared them to the Boondock Saints.

Also, I've managed to lose one of my antagonists since he broke out of jail and no one bothered to tell me.
