Thought I'd put a specific thread in here for those that wish to throw down the gauntlet and challenge someone. All you have to do is drop the word war widget into the post and watch the counts climb. I'm suggesting now that you put your name and the name of the person you are challenging in the title so everyone knows who is who in this thread.
For those that haven't done this before...just copy the widget, change the id numbers to match you and your challenge partner and post it in the body of your reply. It's that simple.

Brave, brave Sir Stravos... when engaging in either a battle of wits or a Word War against a West Coast opponent, always remember that she's got three additional hours in which to get in the last word.
Plan accordingly, or thou shalt be plagued by loss of much sleep! Heheh.

But do keep in mind that HE gets to start three hours earlier! Shouldn't you be more upset for me, who's sitting at the "Start" line going "WHAT ABOUT MEEEEEEEE"?

Okay, an AmTrak train leaves the station in Augusta at 3 p.m. EST and travels north until midnight, stopping for a total of three hours so the engineer can eat his dinner and get his daughters ready for bed and stuff. Another train leaves the station in San Francisco at 6 p.m. PST and travels east until midnight... wait, that's not right. Oh, never mind that then.
Anyway, yeah, this is true, but by the time he wearily uploads his word count for the night and, muttering incoherent apologies to each wall he meets as he caroms from one side of the hall to the other, stops on his way to sway unsteadily while missing the toilet completely, then staggers on to collapse into his bed to toss and turn for the remainder of the night in fevered delirium, you have the delicious advantage of knowing your target word count for the night -- and can pound on the keys until you're caught up and burst back into the lead again!
All Stravos can do is sit there and hope he's got enough words to stay out front.
I think it's going to be an absolutely lovely Word War.

Of course, length will kick me in the ass, too. See, the Four Stones books are only supposed to be about 80K; they're the first project I've worked on where I tried from the start to keep 'em compact. That's far short from what Stravos and I did last year.
Because of that, I think I'mma have a second project lined up, so that when I finish FS3, I can start on another book and keep writing. I don't want to spend the last days/week of NaNo sitting around with nothing to do. I'll have to take it up with Stravos as to whether or not he'd accept that as legit in our word war, though.

Word wars are just that....words. So as long as you are writing, go for it. May the best man win....hehehe.
One thing you didn't know. We've already started the ball rolling on two seperate write ins. So there's two chance for me to set retro rockets to overdrive and hit the stratosphere....yeah, right. I'm grasping at straws here. I think for Nov you should move back here.
