Where are you, Waco? Wake up! It's October =D

What? Yes, I'm here. Of course I don't really live in Waco either, but it's the closest city that I want to be associated with.

To continue this spark we've got going, and perhaps to coax it into flame, I leave this: Why are you doing NaNoWriMo this year?

I am doing it because I love to write, and this is the only way I can possibly write a full-length novel.

I'm doing NaNo out of habit. HAHA. No, really. I think this is one of the most beautiful movements I've ever seen... I've never felt so accomplished and people really do get very impressed. My family is not very literary so they're very interested and impressed. They always misunderstand "won" like there's one person who wins and it's been me for four years LOL. But I think this sort of movement is the right way to get people doing things they've always wanted to do, and also to encourage literacy and education. Plus the community is fantastic!

If any of you live slightly south of Waco, consider joining the Temple Writers Meetup Group. We'll be doing some NaNo gear-up in November, and then a few write-ins and such during November.

Read more about it and request to join here: http://writers.meetup.com/859/about/

I can't decide if I want to make an outline or not this year. I tried it last time and it didn't work so well. Any suggestions?

If it didn't work so well last year, try to do without this year. The best thing about NaNo is experimenting with different techniques and finding your own way to write, finding what works best for you.

*waves his stick about* I'm awake, I'm awake! *mutters about stupid kids waking up an old fart*

Why do NaNo? It's a challenge and gives me something to do. I tried last year, but real life came along and screwed me up the butt. Completely and utterly sucked, but meh. Still; going for it again this year. Whoooo...!

I'm moderately excited - I doubt the serious excitement will start until October 31. Then nothing will stop me!

Well, I just decided that I'm gonna give the novel month a try. My friend and I made an attempt a few summers ago, it failed miserably. It was an enjoyable failure though. I have done no planning at all and intend to just throw myself into the novel like I did last time after reading the book. Well, I will put in some planning by reading "No Plot No Problem" again in the days leading up to November 1.

Lol, I'm tempted to cheat and use my novel attempt from years ago. I think I left my characters sitting in a swimming pool if I remember correctly. I won't do it of course. I just find it amusing that I remember where my characters were last.

Well, good luck to everyone.

Doctor Who FTW!

I'm doing Nano because I love writing... I'm excited because I have a set of characters I adore. That's all I've got though, I'm winging it on plot. We'll see what happens.

Hey everyone! I've tried this thing SO many years and typically fail (I won once!! yay!), but this year I feel it might be worth it. First, I have time, and second, I need something to focus on to vent my current frustration with my inability to have any control over my life. Nano will be AWESOME for that.

Of course, I have no clue what I'm going to do yet. But that's not unusual.

the story i'm doing for nano this year kinda stems from frustration as well. i had a pretty crazy/heartbreaking/inspiring summer and i tend to dump it all into this novel. :) it is going to be sweet sweet agony.

Well first year actually commiting. Tried on other years, but never actually made it.
Either it's cause I'm really boring and live with my cat with only the stories in my head for company, or a glutton for punishment. Or maybe cause the stories don't leave me alone till they are written (or typed) down. Or I'm a procrastinator.

Many reasons.

But never come across this site and the organized version till now.

Adios.

I'm here! Sort of attempted last year, I had an idea and everything, but never got to finish. Then in March my hard drive failed on my computer and I had to get it replaced (under warranty, thank goodness!). I lost my entire story, which had over 8,000 words. That hurt. So I'm using the same story idea, just redoing it and starting from scratch.

And why do it? Cause I can. I, too, am balancing this with marching band and my major - Film and Digital Media. Yeah, I don't actually have a life outside of being a really big nerd.

Man, we need to get crackin' down here in Waco, people. Seriously; three days in and we're only 51,000 words along in the charts? I account for over 1/5th of that myself, and it's only my first year seriously doing this; second year if you count the 1000 words I cranked out last year before becoming unable to finish it.

By the way; any idea who our ML is?

Not a clue who our ML is. I would write more, but I haven't had the time. Crazy weekend behind me with Baylor's homecoming, another crazy weekend ahead of me with the UT game and a mandatory trip to UT, plus a film festival and a movie to shoot. It's a miracle I get anything done. Thanksgiving will hopefully see my word count go flying up! Until then, I'm going to try to get to 10,000 by the halfway point... I doubt I'll finish, but refuse to give up the challenge!

Yeah...I'll pass on the football entirely. Much less entertaining than losing myself in a world of my own making where anything I can think of can happen, even if it doesn't fit with the story I'm writing. Maybe that's the real reason I never spent much time in band...or the fact I've no patience to really practice and apply myself.

On a side note, if any of you are interested in readin my completely raw, unedited NaNo as chapters get finished, you can find it here: http://www.fictionpress.com/s/2591371/1/The_Broken

I'm just doing a seat-of-the-pants operation, and so far it's working out well. Maybe you should try that.
