Donate to NaNo. I just did, so now I'm waiting on my halo and awesome viking sticker :P
But seriously. NaNo's been the much-needed kick-in-the-ass for all of us writers, so show the love. WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN.

Donated on Wednesday. Still waiting for my halo though. I hope it comes soon, I had a halo all last year and feel lost without it there looking pretty above my name.

Does buying from the shop count? Because I'm going to try to get a shirt.

I dunno; I guess in the literal sense it does, but I bought a book last year and didn't get a halo...
Wait, did I maybe buy it from Amazon? I forget...

I just did! Just now. If you're not sure where the money is going to, or what the big deal is about donating, I challenge people to read the 'History' section here on the site. It details the history of NaNo, the challenges, etc... also, there's a breakdown of what all the funds are used for in the "Where Your Donations Go" section under the About tab. I found it really helpful to see what kind of cost it takes to run this thing... and I also very much appreciate and respect non-profit orgs that are full disclosure about their finances.

Go donate!

Buying from the shop doesn't get you a halo, though of course it's awesome. :)

I second the importance of donating. Trust me, they need the cash, and it all goes to good purposes. Also, donors tend to win more than non-donors. It's good karma! *LOL*

Dammit I shouldn't have opened this :D. It's not that I don't want to donate it - I really do, and not just for the pretty halo. I've seen the fund-o-meter stay at the same amount of money for days on end, and I want that to change! Unfortunately as a meager teenager whose parents don't know a thing about NaNoWriMo (no seriously I've never told them) I doubt I could get away with donating :(. Once I'm 18 and away at college however...that's another story!

Have no fear! Even if you're broke, or can't, you can still help!

Donating when broke

And also, if you are waiting for your halo, and it hasn't been applied in a day or two (they're applied manually, not automatically, and no, store purchases don't count) then use the Store Contact Form to get in touch with the store.

Spend the first week of NaNo writing from a completely inverse perspective: your protagonist from an antagonist's (theirs or someone else's) POV, vice versa, evil twin takes over your computer, etc. Just see what comes out. It'll take you the rest of the month to get back on track, possibly, but you'll never be wanting for words. :D

:P This isn't a dare thread lol. This is me daring people to....
and then they open it out of interest and (hopefully) read my first post lmao. Which dares them to give NaNo money.

I wish I could, but I have no way of getting a pay pal- no bank account, credit cards or anything. Otherwise I would. If I could trust the people in my school's post office(I'm at college.) I'd mail some cash.

I'm going to donate! Right now I'm waiting on a check (that I know is coming), and as soon as I put it in the bank I'm going to pop over to the donations page. ^_^ So barring any emergencies, you should see me with a halo soon.

Might want to reword the title of the thread, as it sure reads like a dare thread.

Hate to be a stickler for details, but if I'm going to accept criticism, I have to make sure there's an understanding on all sides that renders it totally valid.

Donated last week :) I think halo got lost in the mail though, lol. . .

Everyone who uses this site should donate something. Even a small amount. Im a single mum, with 3 children, but my gratitude to the site developers is immense, and should be rewarded.

Good luck to all of us this coming November... and spare a thought for the people plugging away in the background ;)

Dang, I thought yay, a dare, but I already did this :P

And maybe the lost halos have something to do with what happened with the server and all, when posts got deleted too and everything?

I am saving up to do so! I wanted to give 100$.. but I don't know if I'll have it in the time I want. Maybe in a few weeks that nice sum will be there to give to NaNo. Plus, I'm getting the '08 shirt and No Plot, No Problem book! Hope it helps 'em out - NaNo is one of the best things that has ever happened to me!

I donated for my first time this year!! I've always been extra low on cash. Now, go figure... I'm on my own and paying all my bills and I have... extra money??? Mind you, I just quit smoking, so that's an extra 100 bucks automatically... but still... definatly planning on donating... AGAIN this year!!! YAY

I donated for the first time this year *admires halo* My donation goodies came over the weekend (I wasn't here so not sure which day they arrived). I swore blind that the first year I was out of education and in work I'd donate $100 worth of £'s. Unfortunately I'm out of education but I'm struggling to find employment. Not wanting to go back on my promise I ended up donating $25 instead which I decided was better than nothing and I feel very proud for it. The $100 will come next year (assuming I'll have actually secured a job by then....lol!)

I keep wanting to donate-but unfortunately me and my fiancee just had to sink $1400 in repairs on our vehicle, and well that's left us short. We're actually in debt to some friends of ours because of the repair work now. However, I am doing what I can by using good search (i use it at work and at home) all the time in research for my story, plus for any other information that I need. Hopefully after this month, we'll be caught up on everything and paying our debt to our friends off, and I'll actually be able to eek out a little money to give to NaNo.

Donation is in. Anxiously awaiting my halo (only chance I ever get to have one, believe me!). They say their goal is 10% of participants donating ... it's already 3.3% and NaNo hasn't even started! I take that a s a good sign. Plus, I haven't even gotten started in the Store yet!
Fortunately, I get an extra payday this month, so NaNoWriMo, Kiva, and two little girls in Senegal are benefiting. And it'll all be taken care of before Noveling starts, so I won't have to be distracted from writing by forays to spend money!
