Progress reports - let us know how you are doing

We had the meet and greet post, I just wanted somewhere to let eachother know how we are.

The pep talk emails have been great. I am on track to make the word count goal, but I don't see an end to my story. I have and an advantage in avoiding distractions as I have been on travel. No kids, no housework, and evening free after 5, so 4 to 5 hours of writing every night. I did find that writing on a plane is hard, not for concentrating, but for typing. A laptop computer has small keys and the seats are too close together to see the screen very well. I am home now, so I have to keep focused to reach the goal!

Good Places to Write in the Cedar Rapids Area

Since it was a topic of discussion at the write-in today, I thought it might be a good thing to have as a general topic in the regional forum. Not everyone has the luxury of hiding from their family and other distractions in a basement (the way I do) on weeknights.

Basically, if you know of or discover a good place to write, particularly someplace that is open relatively late during the week, please post it here. Please include a location and operating hours if you know them. Thanks!

The Night of Writing Dangerously

One of the other regions is announcing a Night of Writing Dangerously, Saturday 11/14 at 6pm, and will end on Sunday 11/15 at 6am. They are also doing a benefit for the Office of Letters and Light by bringing baked goods to sell to each other.

Anyone in CR interested in doing this? Any suggestions where we could meet? Do we want to support the Office of Letters and Light some way? Any interest in a bake sale?

Hope everyone is taking their coffee pots in for annual maintenance and buying a backup pot just in case! November is right around the corner.

Who in Cedar Rapids is taking the plunge this year? Check in and let us know how you're doing!!

I'm Amber. I've ML'd for the last few years for Cedar Rapids. Unfortunately this year I won't be able to participate as much as I have in the past -- work and a 5 month old baby take up most of my free time during normal human hours -- but I do still plan to schedule events, work on my own novel throughout the wee hours of the morning and try to keep everyone motivated towards their goals!! I have no plot, no characters and no idea where I'll find the time to even begin. I was in the same boat last year -- it was an interesting predicament and while I didn't reach the 50k goal last year -- the 43,000 words that I did pull together were all based off of the input of all the other writers who attended the kick off and gave me a very interesting set of characters to work with. Maybe I'll try to revive one or two of those again this year!!

Who else is out there?

A town, a landscape, a museum, etc is perfectly fine. :)
Basically, the postcard has to show SOMEWHERE so I can write about it.

So I already said I would write more words than I had miles on my car (which is already 66k and I'm sure will be more like 70 by the end of NaNo)... This is how your region gets to screw me.. In addition to my 66k and counting, I will write 500 words about each postcard I get.

Yeah, so if I get 100 postcards.....

I'm totally up for this, and I want you guys to get the word out to all your NaNo people.
This is especially good for NaNo regions where I have dropped, thrown, or flung gauntlets. Go ahead, try to overwhelm me. I dare you.

I'm new this year and I'm really looking forward to meeting my "home group". As proof of this I'm willing to volunteer some time to help schedule times and meeting places for us. One of my favorite hangouts is Barnes & Noble. Anyone else interested in meeting before the event begins Nov. 1?
