WELCOME!!!!

Welcome to the 11th year of NaNoWriMo!!

I'm Nellie, your friendly (soon to be sanity and sleep deprived) ML! :-) The forums here will not only cover Harrisburg but York and Lancaster as well. I welcome all the people who have participated in the past and any new comers. Don't be afraid to ask any questions. I'm here to help as well as everyone else. Everyone will be someone else's support group. Chime in here and introduce yourself. If you're new, what made you want to try NaNo? Did a friend bribe you into it or was it something you always wanted to try but never tried before.

I'm a little behind but I'll soon have the event calender up so that everyone can see when the events are and where.

Don't be shy, we won't bite. Now in anyone's novel....anything can go.

Again...WELCOME!
Hosting Businesses

This is a good year as there are two businesses who have been gracious to offer their space for local NaNos.

For Harrisburg, there are some write ins scheduled at the Midtown Scholar Bookstore.

For York, The York Emporium has opened it's doors for the Wrimos in York. This is a 1900 square foot used bookstore with a quarter of a million books. The owner, Jim Lewin, is a published author himself.

Once you're finished writing, you can do some shopping and support our local businesses. ^.^ Mmm...books.
Writing Groups in York PA

Eventually (sadly) NaNoWriMo will come to an end. I have to say so far this experience has been pretty rockin both on a writing standpoint but also as a social standpoint.

Once the fat lady sings, is anyone in the York area interested in continuing to meet in person for a writing group? Online communication rocks too but meeting face to face has been pretty fun so far.

Let me know if anyone's interested! :o)
Directions to Midtown Scholar Bookstore

www.midtownscholar.com

On Saturday 7th and 21st we will be having a write in at the Midtown Scholar Bookstore at 1302 North Third Street, Harrisburg, PA 17102, at the corner of Third and Verbeke Sts., from 9am to around 3pm. On the 7th they are closing at 5pm as they will be doing a sound check for a concert that night. Here are directions on how to reach it from several directions. The building is like a potato chip yellow and has an old fashioned sign that says “Midtown” when you’re facing it on the North side of the Market.

From I-81: Take Exit 66 ("Front Street"); travel SOUTH on Front Street about 3 1/2 miles; turn Left onto Verbeke Street (follow signs for the "Broad Street Market"!); turn Left at the next stoplight onto Third Street. We are the second building on the left. Free on-street parking all around the Broad Street Market; metered parking in front of the store. Or take I-81 to Cameron Street Exit and travel past the Farm Show and bear right on MacClay Street. Go to the next light and make a left onto 6th Street and travel about a quarter mile to the Market and make a right onto Verbeke Street.

From I-83: Take the "2nd Street" exit; travel through downtown about 2 1/2 miles; turn Right at the stoplight at Verbeke Street (follow signs for the "Broad Street Market"!); turn Left at the next stoplight onto Third Street. We are the second building on the left. Free on-street parking all around the Broad Street Market; metered parking in front of the store.

From Harvey Taylor Bridge/Forster St., get into the left lane and make a left at the 3rd Street Light (there is a One Stop Shop on the Left side of Forster) and follow 3rd until you reach the Broad Street Market. You can either park on the street or circle around the Market to find a spot. There are also parking lots for the Market on the North Side of the Buildings.

The arrows are parking to the spots around the market where you can park. Within the red squares are two bigger parking areas and then there is also the street parking. On the first map, the green arrow points towards Forster. The darker red arrows on Verbeke that go around the building indicate one way direction around the market. The second map gives you a perspective of the blocks. If you travel on Third from Forster and pass the HACC campus, you went too far.

Little Things that bug me when I'm writing.

Okay. We all has them. The little things that drive us up the wall when we're trying to write, and we're just about in the zone (You know the zone....that awesome fast lane to creativeness that is why some of us write, because that zone is almost better than chocolate...almost...) And then...bam! That little thing happens that makes you grind your teeth, takes you out of fifth gear, and you have to jam on your headphones/earplugs/cone of absolute silence to get started again...

Do any of you know what I mean?

Okay, well here's mine. And all of them happened today, so I'll just say it.

When I'm in the zone and I've got my earphones in, and I'm typing away, and I get the tap on my shoulder.

When the kitten decides that my fingers make the best toy ever, because they are moving so fast and MUST be for his enjoyment.

When I look at the watch and it's 12:30am and I know I have to be up early tomorrow to do yardwork so I can get to the game and hang out with friends, and yet...it's going so well, do I sacrifice sleep or do I stop and hope the juices flow as well tomorrow?

y'argh! y'know?

so. What are yours? Because I want to know that I'm not the only one who runs into these. And if I am, can someone at least pretend that I'm not the only crazy one here? heh.

Lebanon County?

Hello!

There are at least four of us in Lebanon County and we're wondering if there's anyone else in our county who is also on this crazy ride?

There is always so much going on in Harrisburg/York/Lancaster and we're sort of in the middle of it all, so we thought we'd check to see if anyone else in our county is lurking and looking for fellow, local WriMos.

Thanks,
Virtual Meet-ups

We do have a little chat room that if you look under the Region tab, you'll find a link. I know that some people will be unable to meet in person due to other issues such as not having a car or bus issues, or they just can't make it to the meet-ups because they have a job that has them working on the weekends. I want to at least make sure that even if you don't see anyone in person, there is still the 'meeting' part that people can take place in. I would like to have at least one Virtual Meet-up a week were everyone can challenge each other to word wars as they type at home. :)

Vote here for which day, Monday to Thursday, that everyone would like to take part?

That pesky Inner Editor

It was fun in the chat last night. We goofed around but we still got work cound and as esm002 said, if it get's slow, throw some fire in.

Even if something is already on fire, throw some more in. XD

Something else that came up was that pesky inner editor. Get out the rolled newspaper and smack it on the nose and go "NO! Bad Editor! This is NaNo. GO!" Smack it again if it doesn't go right away. Or lock it in the attic/basement. :D
Twas the night before NaNo

This is from one of the other MLs. :D

----

Twas the night before NaNo, when all through the house
Not a keyboard was typing, not a click of a mouse.
The stickers were hung by the writer with care,
In Hopes that a Novel, soon would be there.

The Editors were nestled, all snug in their beds,
While visions of red pens, danced in their heads.
with Chris Baty in his viking hat and I in my shirt,
All the wrimo's world wide, sat waiting to work.

When out on the lawn, there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my writing spot, to see what was the matter.
Away to the window, I flew like a flash,
Tore open the window, threw up the sash.

The moon was big, with a very bright glow
and it looked like a screen that had something to show.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a story and eight characters.

With a little plot arc ,so lively and round,
I knew in a moment, "My Novel - I've found!"
More rapid then eagles the chapters they came
and the story whistled and shouted and called things by name,

"Now characters, Now plot arcs, now storylines and more,
"On conflict, On turmoil, On plot twists galore.
To the top of the plot line, to November's 50 K
Now write away, write away, write away today."

As dead words before the wild month fly,
When they meet with a Muse and mount to the sky
So up to my desk top these coursers, they flew
with a slew full of ideas, and my muse too.

And then in a twinkling I heard on my desk
The smattering of words, taking one last rest.
As I drew in my hand and was turning around
Appeared, did my muse, in one single bound.

It was dressed in all words, from it's head to it's foot
and it's clothes were all tarnished with erasure gook.
It's bundle of stories were flung on it's back
And it looked like Chris Baty - What's up with that?

It's eyes how they shimmered, It's dimples how scary,
It's cheeks were all blustery, it's smile so merry.
It's droll little mouth was drawn up like an "oh"
And not a beard on it's chin, that'd be freaky, ya know?

The stump of a pencil it held tight in it's teeth,
And punctuation encircled it it's head like a wreath.
It had a bright face and a round cuppa coffee
That shook when it laughed, without ever sloshing.

It was awkward and lumpy, a right crazy old elf
And I laughed when I saw it, inspite of myself.
A wink of Its eye and a twist of Its head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

It spoke not a word, but went straight to my desk
And It looked at my blank page then said, "Surely you Jest"
Laying its fingers aside of my keys, It winked at me once,
And slid inward with ease.

It sprang on my screen, to the words it gave whistle
and away they all flew to it, like the down of a thistle
But I heard it exclaim, err it faded into the night
"Happy NaNo to all, tonight you shall write!"
