Hey everybody!

I am toying with a new species for my story, but it needs a name. A cool, mysterious sounding, fantasy name!

Here is a little blurb about them:

They are the eldest race that lives in my fantasy land, come from over the west mountain tops. They are a species of humanoids that look like children or young teenagers, with slanted eyes and sharp, canine like teeth. Their appearance is scruffy, mature indivuduals standing between roughly 4'8" and 5'6" tall. Their average lifespan, if lived to the fullest, is about 120 years, though they often die beforeThe ________'s live in clans of between six and twenty, eating mostly meat, though they can survive on plants if they need to.They posess a mulititude of knowledge at their command, and carry simple, effective weapons, such as short bows, swords, daggers, and throwing knives. They have the ability to use magic, and are about as powerful as the better human magicians. The ________s are quiet, and mysterious, with the tendancy to sneak up on you, and surprise you with their presence. They enjoy fooling humans, and are not often in contact with them, though some choose to live with, and aid, the humans.

Okay, my little blurb turned slightly bigger. Anyway please do not use these in your stories! I did not post about them so that you could use them... I am not saying that most, or any of you would, but I felt that it is better safe, than sorry!

Any ideas? Thanks in advance,

-Aelyn

Just a few that popped into my mind.

The Sketh/Skethlings

The Lesh

The just give me a grungy snakelike feeling so names that sound like a hiss seem appropriate.

Do they have any history? They could be named after a patriarch or matriarch. Or perhaps something in line with their word for the earth (mars -> martians, etc.). Do they come from a particular region or city (Rome -> Romans)? Something that fits with their spiritual/religious beliefs? I'd say you have a number of options, but it would best if you have the name fit with their history, rather than just come up with a word like Ygglsnats. Only Dr. Seuss gets to do that.

Sheesh, relax. ;) You can't "steal" an idea -- ideas are a dime a dozen anyway, it's the execution that matters. Even if someone _did_ for some reason "steal" your idea, it would still be their own writing and wind up completely different from _your_ execution. And I think most people on this forum have more ideas than they can possibly even write about anyway...

I've always had fun with a fantasy name generator for character names. The one I use frequently is: http://www.rinkworks.com/namegen/

Being that I play World of Warcraft and have done table top gaming, it's been quite a good pal for naming stuff. I'm terrible at just making names up on the fly. :)

Thanks everybody, I have a working name for them, and I may come up with something better, but all of your suggestions were welcome!

@ keolah - I know, but I would like to keep my ideas, and if you think it is such a bad thing for me to post asking people not to steal my idea, then please don't bother posting her. I understand that, since I put it on the internet, people may take it, no matter what I say, but there are some people who read notices like that, and actually do what they say. Thank you for your opinion.

Thanks again, everybody!
