Write-in in the "Frozen North"?

Hi!

I know it's not technically IN Bucks County, but I'd like to propose a write in just a tiny bit north of the line in Coopersburg PA for Monday at 1pm at the American Sandwich Company. 7001 N ROUTE 309, Coopersburg, PA 18036

It's an extremely writer-friendly location with free wi-fi, and free fountain drinks to anyone who identifies themselves as being affiliated with NaNoWriMo! They have comfy chairs and regular chairs and tables, and they are happy to have us sit for hours on end as we write and drink free soda :) Also, if you're hungry, their sandwiches are FABULOUS.

Oh, they also have tons of outlets and provide power strips! (can you tell I've written here before?) I'd love to get a chance to know some other wrimos before the month ends! (sniff sniff)

Weekday Write-In?

I received a bad update file, resulting in the resetting of my computer to factory settings. A good object lesson for me, since I probably lost 100 little things I will now have to track down as I think of them.

Thumb drives are very useful, too.

Hi, I'm your Municipal Liaison, Sheila. aka merrihart.

I'm ** years old, I work, I go to school, I write a mixture of romance and sci-fi/fantasy. (Never consistently, though.)

I have 2 cats, one of which is undergoing surgery on the 5th. (All bets are off if he dies, sorry, but he's my baby.) I decorate for Halloween and Christmas. I drink lattes and tea, I eat apple pie with walnuts in it, and I love beef.

I listen to whatever I want, including Glen Miller and Enigma, I love soundtracks. I type in silence, though.

I'm on my 4th year as ML, and my 5th year as a Wrimo. I've won each year, but count only the first year as truly successful in generating a story I loved. My second year I did a cohesive story and felt it was flat. I"m not even going to talk about my 3rd and 4th years. :p

I hope to meet you all at our meet ups, this month, which I will post as they are decided on. If you can't make any of the meetings, don't worry, we still want to hear from you!

I know there's already a larger thread for this on the main forums, but I'm interested in seeing what we Bucks Countians have come up with. So, what's your favorite line so far?

Mine would have to be, "She refuses to look at the wall, refuses to give the sparse wealthy population of Catchknot that kind of satisfaction, but can't stand the decaying, poisonous poverty painted over every house she passes in her neighborhood, the Adlam's neighborhood, Alcott's neighborhood, the lean-tos thrown together in a heap on the outskirts of the factories."

As of now, mine's getting ready to club a zombie dog to death with a baseball bat. She's managed to get it trapped in her above-ground pool, but can't live with the thought of leaving it to drown or starve to death. Either way, she's not too happy about it. She's normally an animal-lover...this is going to be traumatic.

Events for November!

As you may have seen from the Region page headers, I have scheduled the write-ins as I can make them. I have nine listed, most of which are up and down Street Road from Warrington to Bensalem.

I don't think we have heard from anyone farther north than Doylestown? I did schedule one write-in for the Doylestown Starbucks, where we met last year. But almost everyone who could meet there, could also meet in Warrington, where most of the write-ins are scheduled.

If you want a write-in further north or south of the ones I have already listed, please don't hesitate to plan one. Everyone should feel free to plan their own write-in and let everyone else know you are holding one. I do ask that if you choose a setting where there is a waiting staff, that you leave a good tip, even if you only order drinks, because we like to keep in the good graces of people who spend their days on their feet waving pots filled with hot coffee at us!

(One reason why all my selected places are Panera or Starbucks or Wegman's, where there is limited or no wait staff.)

Also, Xavernus is acting as a co-ML this year, and will be scheduling further write-ins during the week days, so keep a look out for alternative times and places from her.

I hope you all can make it to at least one write-in!

Anyone for a midnight write-in on Halloween?

Since Halloween falls on Saturday, and it's a traditional thing to wait up till midnight to get your first sentence in, I was wondering if anyone would be up for a midnight write-in at Wegman's or the Warminster West Diner? Both places are 24 hours, both have coffee, though I don't know if Wegman's coffee bar is 24 hours. (You'd think it would be with employees who want coffee, though, right?)

Anyway, if anyone wants to be out to write that night, let me know, I'll be happy to be there, laptop open, note books all over the place (I'm teasing, I only use 1 notebook), with coffee in front of me, and probably chips too!

October 25, 2pm, at Wegmans, Valley Square Shopping Center, Street Road & 611, Warrington, PA

Hi guys!

We have to make some plans soon, the month is flying by.

So, I'm thinking the fourth weekend for the kick-off party, so everyone can meet without the pressure of a writing session in front of them, maybe for a couple hours at some place. And I'm remembering there is a new restaurant in the Valley Square Shopping Center that is a FONDUE restaurant.

I'm thinking this could be a little fun.

I know we have heard from 3-4 high school students, and a couple college students, and money isn't exactly plentiful around anyways, so I'm also thinking of a little home made option here.

1. Meet at the Fondue restaurant for a little dipping in cheesy goodness. (and chocolatey goodness, cause they must have chocolate, right?)

2. Have a potluck kind of thing, where everyone brings something and we have a meet and greet somewhere. The Wegman's would be good for this, with the upstairs eating area.

I'm thinking Saturday late afternoon for this. Say, around 4pm to 6pm?
Alternate day is Sunday the 25th, either early afternoon or evening, but I'm not available between four and seven on Sundays.

Let me which place and what day/time, please, so I can make some plans.

ps: Parking at Wegman's can be a little tight sometimes. I have never been there when they aren't busy, and often on weekends, they are packed. Plan on getting a little bit of excercise there.

10/10 edit: Sunday, the 25th at Wegmans. Please let me know what you will be bringing (even if just a general category, ie desert, salad, etc.)

Wegman's is in the Valley Square Shopping Center, which is on Street Road just east of Rt 611. For anyone who has not been there, Wegman's has a "Restaurant" portion, where you can buy food and drink, and an upstairs seating area separate from the shopping area. So if you don't cook, you can always pop down stairs and buy something. There are also microwaves for anything that needs heating up.

2009 Wrimos, Welcome!

It's almost here! 2009 NaNoWriMo.

I hope you are getting geared up for a really great season this year! Get your 50k (or other goal) ready to go, your characters waiting impatiently (but not too impatiently!), and your settings built in time for a great kick off on November 1.

There are, however, some things to take care of first.

1. Pre-November meeting! I like to meet my participants before the writing crunch gets underway. Hopefully, I can remember names (but don't count on it, I'm terrible with names), and get an idea of where I need to go before November hits.

2. Kick off party! Do you guys want to have a Halloween kick off, or do it earlier? November 1st is on a Sunday this year, and I thought of a great place to have a midnight kick off. Wegmans, at 611 & Street Road, in the Valley Square Shopping Center has an upstairs eating area and they are open 24 hours. We can meet there, buy coffee and food downstairs, or bring our own. They have microwaves set up to heat things up, even.

I do not know if they have wifi, I will have to ask customer service.

3. Arrange our write-ins! This year, the powers that be are asking for 1 write-in a week. Which is ok, because I think I did that last year anyway. But I'd like a little more variety of meeting places this year, and hopefully get to some of you who got left out last year. :( My fault, entirely.

which brings me to...

4. Asking for a co-ML, because it's a large county, and I'm a busy girl. My weeknights are tied up for the most part and weekends aren't all that easy, but for NaNo, I do my best to free myself up. Still, someone else to help share this endeavor with would be welcome.

So, for meeting places, we have:

1. Doylestown Starbucks (very successful last year)
2. Wegmans at Valley Square (24 hours!)
3. Panera at Valley Square (has the advantage to being just a few doors from Borders!)
4. Warminster West Diner (24 hours!)
5. Panera at the Feasterville shopping center (good for weeknights that I'm not in school, after 7 pm)

I'm always open to suggested meeting places, so feel free. But there are things to consider: Is a tip required? Please let us know. Can the place accommodate an unexpected number of people, or not be disappointing in a small number of people? Are people welcome to bring food from the outside? etc. etc.

We can also have on line write ins using a chat program like mibbit.

I can't wait to meet you all!
