Hey, this is just a shout out to anybody in the Southeast region of the state. I hope I'm not all alone here. There does not seem to be much activity in the Southeast region in writing. I'm hoping to get something started down here.

Welcome Northwestern Florida and Western Georgia as well.

Please make a comment and let me know there is someone-anyone else out there in the area involved in NaNoWriMo or writing.

Hello Maddie,

I'm so glad to know that I'm not all alone down here in the forgotten region of Alabama. Is this your first Nano? You can probably tell that it's mine. I'm going to try a romance/mystery/suspense story. It doesn't seem to fit neatly into one genre. I have most of the plot in my head and started an outline but am finding some holes. I'm hoping to get them patched up before this thing kicks off so I can write freely.

Hey Maddie and James, I'm in Dothan and There is a couple others in the E'prise area that I know of, and at least one other in Dothan that I haven't heard from this year, but hopefully will soon. I'm still trying to entice a few newbies for this years event, so hopefully we can get a group going. Let me know if you get a meet & greet or a write-in going in your areas, I'm looking into finding a place down here, just in case we can get a small group going.

Thanks Kurt,

I've thought for a long time that it would be nice to have a writing organization in the Dothan area for all the folks in the surrounding areas. I had just never found many folks from around here into writing. I've even thought about trying to start a writing group but I lack the experience. I think it would be great to have others to talk to and join to bounce around ideas and check works in progress.

It appears we are both in luck, I got a nanomail from a gal that has started a writers group. Check this site out.

Link to the meeting of the Dothan Short Story Group

It should be interesting, and we can meet a few more writers in the area.

Hello, I know Jenni from the short story group. I have never attended a meeting. I don't know how I am going to accomplish this but I will give it a shot. My wife and I spend so much time together, I never just sit alone at the computer. Hopefully we will all have a good month. I write a blog occasionally http://notconcerned.blogspot.com/ check out the March archives for the best stuff.

Great to hear from you! I tend to spend all my time at home as well, but my wife was really supportive of my insanity last year. She even nudged my along a couple times around the 20th of the month. Good thing she did or I would have had a hard time getting it done!. Hope to see you at the Nov. meeting, or maybe we will get a NANO meet and &greet setup?

Hello hermitty ,

Glad to hear from you. There definately seems to be much more activity in this corner of the state than last year. Hopefully a few more will chime in as well.

Hi, I am in Enterprise. I talked to the owner of a new coffee shop in Enterprise named Boldly Going-the shop not the owner!
It is located on Rucker Blvd. He said we could meet there and if we call ahead he'll reserve a large table. The only catch is the hours- they are open 6am-6pm m-f, except wed 6-5, and 8am-2pm on sat. If those hours don't work i can talk to the librarian here if anyone is interested in meeting in Enterprise, but Dothan is fine with me.
This will be my first year to actually submit anything, but i am determined! My husband and I are both retired so I should have time.

I'm starting to feel better already. Who knew that by simply signing up for this crazy ride, I would flush out so many writers from the local area.

I would like to attend the short story group meeting. This could truly be exciting.

I'm up for either place, We are starting to get people coming back n-line from last year, so hopefully soon they will all have checked in. It would be great to get a meet & greet and maybe a write-in or two during November.

AnnieLaurie,

Sounds Great! I'm in Daleville and I know of the new coffee shop. Would love to see something get started in the local area. This is my first year with nano as well. I'm still working but retired from military service. I still work for the government.

We could all get together in Dothan with the Short Story group as well. I would be good with either and am just tickled that their are actually others interested in writing in the local area!

James,

Yes, this is my first time officially doing this. Last year, I didn't sign up, but I participated.

The story I'm attempting is kind of a suspense/romance thing, but I can't really categorize it well. I'm not really sure how it's going to work out, but I'm excited about writing it.

I asked many people at school if they were doing this, but all of them either looked at me like I was crazy, or told me I was crazy for doing it. Such a shame that other "young people" don't like writing as much as I do.

Maddie.

Yea, sometimes writing can be a lonely life. don't worry though, just keep doing what you enjoy. I think that most people that enjoy writing know about it at an early age. I was about your age when I got into writing. It was way back during seventh-grade school year in "cringe" 1977. It was the year Star Wars, the movie first showed. That movie, the book "Where the Red Fern Grows" and pulp fiction is what cemented me into writing. I still enjoy it now after a military career, marriage, two children, and moves all over the world.

I guess what I'm trying to say is to just stick with it. You may be lonely in your dreams for years but it will eventually pay off as long as you are doing what you enjoy. You are to be commended for taking this on at your age and at a time when pressures from school, friends and family can be overwhelming. I certainly do not think I would have been ready for something like this when I was a teenager. Heck, I'm barely ready for it now. It seems like such a scary daunting task but I just know it will be loads of fun and so educational from a writing standpoint.

Best of luck to you. Come hang out with us old folks at a write-in or meeting (I have not attended either but will this year) and have fun with your writing. BTW, I'm doing a kind of mystery/romance/suspense thing this for Nano as well.

I don't care what people say. I love writing, and while I may not be that good at it, it's a great way to express oneself.

I will most definitely come hang out with you "old folks" if I can get my mother to allow me to. (You aren't that old.) It seems like a lot of fun. I've always been more of a loner than a group person, so I think it is time to change that.

"Where the Red Fern Grows" is excellent; I read it with my English class last year. The person who was reading was crying so hard that we had to stop and let her calm down before she could start again. I think that's the first time I've cried over a book. I bawled over "To Kill A Mockingbird" when I finished it last week, I owed the library money for damaging it with water, hehe.

Maddie,
Did you see the post above about the short story group in Dothan? I looked at the website and sent an email to the club leader about their meeting on 3 November. I might go but said I would not be able to bring something from the story prompt as I will be concentrating on Nano by then. I'm just surprised that there are so many writers in the local area. I've been looking but I guess they've all been hiding out.

I hope you don't mind, I listed you as a writing buddy on my profile/buddy list. I am not sure how good I will be at giving encouragement during the month (since I will probably be needing a kick in the pants half way through.)

Hello all.

I'm from Dothan, but I'm going to school in Troy at the moment, so I'm not here during the week. Glad to know there are other local people involved.

This is my first NaNo, and I'm excited to get started.

Hello Moon, good luck in the NaNo.

Yes, I saw the link. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I can go or not, but I'm definitely going to attempt to bribe my parents into letting me go.

That's fine, James, I've added you as well. I'll definitely need someone to steer me straight at times, but hopefully not often. I'm trying to get through something in my life without procrastinating.

Welcome Moon,

Glad to have you here. My first nano as well. I'm sure you'll find lots of support here as I will most definitely need it!

Maddie-don't fret if you can't go to a meeting or get-together. I'm sure we will all have a great time throughout next month. I'm sure we will all learn much and gain new writing friends and support in the process.

I hope you don't mind. I added you to my writing buddy list. I guess I've added every local to my list-who knows, I may need the support in the middle of next month.

Truetrue, I'd just prefer to go. And it's fun bugging them, but when I have kids of my own, I probably won't like it too much. Oh well.

Do you know what you're going to write about, Moon?

Hello Moon,

Glad to hear that the group is growing. There is a group in Troy, so you will probably get involved with them, but if we can get a couple meetings together here in Dothan, you are welcome here as well.

Good luck at school and on NANO !

I will email the short story writing group leader to tell her she needs to join this group, I don't know if she is participating in NANO this year. Her name is Jenni, pronounced Jen-eye.

Thank you NOTCONCERNED,
I am interested in joining her group. I am so elated that there are other writers in the area. I emailed her from her website but have not received a response yet. She has information there about this year's nano so I would hope she will be joining as well.

Here is a link to the site

James posted it above. I'm looking for buddies in the area as well.

I would like to invite anyone to come to Books A Million on Nov. 3rd and mingle with us!
We could plan other meetings during November - I think it would be terriffic!

My writers Group- We just started the group in June and we range from 6-8 attendees a meeting and welcome anyone who wants to attend.
We meet the first Monday of the month Books a Million 6-8 PM
If you don't have anything prepared for the prompt, you may bring any piece of writing. (or just attend for the support)
We are a local group of novice to published writers encouraging each other.
Anyone doing NaNo in Dothan - I'd love to have you attend.

There is another writers group in Dothan that meets at the Cultural arts Center for Lunch 1130 (ish) to 2 (if you want to stay that long) most only have the lunch hour. They meet the last friday of the month. Bring a sack lunch and meet other writers.

I have attended the Lunch bunch meeting and they are a group of published writers and like to write a lot about history.
They are also encouraging new members.
I started the writer's group to meet others after writing on line for about three years and decided to find a group and didn't so I started one. The group is varied in talents and it is fun to get together.

Hello dailypanic,

Glad to hear from you. You've been the talk of the town around here lately. I would like to attend your group meeting in November. I'm so happy to find so many folks showing up here from the local area. I had no idea there was so much interest here. I was feeling so alone and now I realize there are others around here that share my interests.
