I'm 14 years old, going on 15, and m birthday is in the first week of NaNo, election day. November 4th. I plan to have a small party, a sleepover the weekend after, but how do I fit the first-week frenzy of NaNo, the OVERALL frenzy of NaNo, in with my b-day? Am I the only one with this problem? Any ideas how to work around it?

Hmm. Blow off some Nano steam and after everyone leaves the sleepover, write! We have Thanksgiving for the family so I try to make sure I'm about done by then because I don't want to think about anything but turkey on that day. We also celebrate my mom's birthday. By all means, have a great birthday!

I know!! My birthday is the first of November. I didn't want to do anything, but now my family is planning on going bowling because my brother's birthday is the third of November. Then my cousins are staying the night. :( *tear* No time. I'm just going to squeeze in what work I can, like on the way to the alley and back, etc.

I'm a November 1st birthday too ^_^ O I believe that's when we're having our kick-off party here in the area so it'll be a combination celebration :)

Heh, heh....

I knew i couldn't be the only one out there dealing with this issue. Every darned year....on November 11th, (Veteran's day) I have this huge party to contend with. Cleaning all day, people over all night, cleaning up all the next day.....

Geeze. Working around it is no simple task. I would just recommend writing a LOT the night before. I also, during the night of my birthday once my friends had gone to sleep, I would sneak to my computer and throw in a few words here and there.

Good luck, (I feel your birthday pain, you are not alone!)

Maybe try carrying around a small notebook with you to jot down ideas and words when you can't be at your computer.

I have a good day for my birthday....November 30th...hopefully I'll be done by then!!

Nice to know I'm not alone...by the eighth I usually have a cushion, though, so I'll probably be okay. Maybe before the big day, try to have a really productive day-- try the 10 k in 5 hour challenge over at word wars, something like that- so you aren't stressed during the party. It helps that I usually don't make a big deal about my b-day, although it might be different for my 16th.... :)

My birthday is the 4th as well. What I've done the past two years, and will do again this year, is make sure I get way ahead in word count on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, so I can take my birthday off and not be behind. If I have plans for the weekend after as well (which I do this year), I do the same thing in the few days after my birthday. That's what works for me.

Of course, I feel obligated to point out that if you're on a roll, it doesn't take long to get your daily word count in. I can usually do mine in an hour, give or take ten minutes, and that doesn't interfere with other plans.

Mine is the 16th. One year I had a party, and it wasn't a big deal. Just write more the day before and day after.

You're 11/11? I'm 11/11! But I'm special this year in that I'll be 22! (11 + 11 = 22!) How cool is that? :D

Every year I simply write as much as possible in the days before and then I just relax on whatever days I'm celebrating my birthday. Last year I spent two days snowboarding for the weekend before and then on my actual birthday I got to see some of my family. Of course mine is in the second half of the month (the 19th to be exact), so by that time I've gotten enough done to coast a bit.
If you have time to write on your birthday, then write then. But don't stress if you don't have time. It's pretty easy to make up for a lost day or two in NaNo since you don't even need 2k a day and you can easily make that up within a couple (or, if you're like me and you're a bit over-competitive sometimes, within an hour or two).

Biggest thing is - don't stress. NaNo is supposed to be fun and challenging. My first year I missed the first two days, then I barely wrote for a week during tech week for a play I was in. And then I spent most of my birthday gone celebrating. You can do this. All you have to do is focus and not give up.

Happy early birthday, by the way!

turning 25 on nov 2nd here! that's sort of the point where i always gave up on other nano-years as well. NOT THIS YEAR. TWENTY-FIVE IS THE TIME TO SHINE (or something).

thankfully, us early birthday kids can slack of earlier and then play catch up later. i would hate to have it in the midst of the month.

I'll be 25 on the 19th. If you put in a bit of extra effort before your birthday you can work up a buffer so that you can take the day off on your birthday and enjoy it without worrying abut falling behind. If your birthday is too early to work up much of a buffer then just put in a bit more effort after. :)

Heh :) I've always liked my last-Autumn-month birthday, but now that I know about NaNo, it makes November even more special :D
Honestly, though, having a November birthday doesn't interfere with my writing at all (I'm a sporadic writer, and I don't really pace myself the way some people do with the required 16+K a day goal). I just write a bit more on some days before and after my birthday (if I feel like taking my birthday off, which I usually don't, anyway).

My birthday is also in november. It i on the 18th. I am very excited. If you are wondering why I am writing in plain, simple sentences it is because I am practicing for nano. Need to write a lot of words!!!

November 21 here! So far my birthday hasn't interferred with NaNoWriMo. Each year, I've already been hopelessly behind by then and had abandonned the effort. Maybe this year it will be different and I'll still be in the running that late in the month. :-)

Mine's the 16th too! It's late enough in the month that I'm ahead enough to take the day off.

This year I'm going to a World Vegan Day event in the area and am trying to figure out how to get some writing in. I volunteer at the humane society from 9 - 11 and then the event is from 12 - 5, so... I guess it'll be an early morning and a late night! Nothing new, really =P

Mine's on the 12th, and it'll be my 16th birthday, and I don't really want to have a party, but I think my mom is throwing me one. She asked for a list of my favorite things "for her scrapbook" but I think she's up to something.

Yay!! I was hoping for this thread! My birthday is the 17th. Last year it was on the Night of Writing Dangerously fundraiser (but I didn't go as I was celebrating [quietly] at home). This year it's on...a Monday (and I will be attending the Night of Writing Dangerously the previous Saturday!). You've only had 14 birthdays so far, so they're still rather exciting. I'll be having my 44th. I'll probably change the number on my author page, write my 1667 words, and go to bed. There are 29 other days in November to be frenzied, so take a day off and just add 57.5 words every of the other 29 days!

I don't have one, but my son turned 5 on the 20th - which was a very. big. deal. We're actually not done celebrating yet - daddy has been deployed 6 months, and will be home in a little over a week, so we have some more celebrating to do then.

I turned sixteen on the 24th .____. I wasn't planning to have any kind of big party in the first place, only a gathering with a few close friends on Tuesday (the 25th), but that fell through, which really, really sucked.

I got to spend the day writing, though >.< t'was a rather small consolation, really.

I'm 22 tomorrow (27th). It's the reason why I may not be able to write any more this week. Between work and birthday celebrations between myself and my boyfriend (his was yesterday - 25th) I just don't think I'll have the time. I'm finishing my novel next week instead.
