And we're off!

Morning everyone!

Did we all stay up til/get up at midnight? Nah, me neither. I even had a lie in! Woke up at 5 and thought, OK another half an hour. The radio went off at 6 and body ached so switched it off. Mobile alarm went off at 6.30 but was already up by then. Switched the computer on, went to the bathroom (OK, too much information), let the dog out, fed him, made a cup of tea.

352 words later, Bailey (the dog) was itching to go for a walk (didn't he know it was raining?) so I tipped the cold half-cup of tea down the kitchen sink and took him on the green (he wouldn't go any further - it's chucking in my little part of Northampton).

Full of ideas, notes and a surprising 1st person chick lit (the 1st person bit was the surprise)...love where it's going despite only being 377 words in now...

Anyway, why am I using precious word count here...

Good luck everyone and see you soon.

Statistics

Has anyone taken a look at the Word Count Scoreboard under the 'Fun Stuff'? I've just done out of curiosity and our MK region is a staggering 258th out of 484... in the world!

Considering how few (I think) of us there are, I think that's amazing. Well done everyone!
Please save your work!

Hi everyone.

I've been at home today so had another productive day until my computer decided to crash (and I mean badly!). I got it rebooted but I hadn't saved for ages (and I'm normally pretty good). Fortunately, AutoSave (I use Vista - for my sins - Word) had kicked in a little while before but I still lost half a page (c. 300 words that I really liked).

Needless to say the re-write isn't the same but I'm up and running again now (having worked out that the problem was a duff file so copied/pasted text into new doc and saved it, recycle binning the old one) but it was scary. Saving every few lines now. :)
Anyone else in Bedford area?

Hi everyone,
Joined the MK region cause there's no Bedford - we have an MK postcode so I guess this is the closest I'll get.
Just wondered if there were any other Bedfordians doing this?
What, if anything, are you doing to prepare for November?

We've had a string of houseguests this year and are glad to finally have the place back to ourselves. I am looking at some serious house cleaning as a result and this got me thinking about last year's Nano and the state that left the kitchen in. I know paper plates and plastic cutlery would earn me an environmental frowny face, but maybe if I used the slow cooker a bit more often and froze up some meals in advance I could streamline a bit. There has been a bit of wool gathering on long walks through Salcey forest or along the Grand Union Canal. (The dog doesn't mind my inattention - he can find things to roll in all on his own.) Been gathering up some of my favorite references, such as the Dictionary of Phrase and Fable for those "now where do I remember that from" or "how does that go" moments. Dialed up people watching a few notches as well. Might have to go on month long ban on internet sites Facebook and diverse others. Nearly have my idea hatched, but might have to just see where it goes. No outline nonsense for me. I never could write that way.

So, what, if anything are you doing to prepare?
Saturday write-ins and meets?

I was wondering who else might be keen? Its sadly the only day of the week i am garunteed to have free.

I'm not sure of the best places.. was Borders sympathetic last time? Where were the other meets?

I'm happy to go in and sit all day if people feel like coming and going at various times - anything to keep me off facebook when i should be writing!!!

Also - would anyone be keen on a meet on 30th October and a pre-nano meet for coffee (and cake...pleeease cake too)? the 1st November is a Monday which, if I'm not working is fine for me to meet up on, but i won't know until maybe late next week if i am going to be employed or not :)
