Hello Southampton Wrimos!
So, the forums have been wiped from last year ready for this year's discussions, and I think it's time I introduced myself (a little late, as usual.)
In answer to someone's question on the other thread, yes, there are in fact two MLs for the Southamption region (you lucky people!) - myself (I'm Jenny), and Ella (username plv, I'm sure she'll be along to introduce herself soon). We've already met up and started going through a few ideas, so hopefully this year the Southampton Region will have a fairly eventful NaNoWriMo!
We're considering a few places for write-ins and some ideas for a kick-off event - speaking of which, have any of you heard of The Art House on Bedford Place? On November 1st, very appropriately, they are hosting a talk by a newly published local first-time author. If anyone would like to come along, please let us know - the Art House have also kindly agreed to let us use their space for write-ins, but I would be very grateful if I could have a show of hands (virtually speaking, of course) so I can let them have some idea of numbers.
And of course, if any of you have any ideas of your own that you'd like to suggest, please feel free! All ideas and suggestions are valued and will be very welcome, so don't hesitate to NaNoMail Ella or myself, or to post them right here on the forum.
So now, all that remains is for you to introduce yourselves!
Remember to keep an eye on the forum for more updates, and most importantly, Happy NaNo-ing.
Jenny x

Dear Jenny,
Thanks for your posting. I can make the Art House meeting on the 1st I know Bedford Place as I used to live in Southampton.
This is my first Nano I found out about Nano via my fellow Aplhasmarties on the Flickr Alphasmart user group I have also wanted to try to write a novel so thought I would give it a try. I will be using my AlphaSmarts: an AS 3000, 2 Neos - one is normally used for my voluntary work and Dana along with dragon naturally speaking 8 professional and my Olympus DS 4000 dictaphone. My novel is called Ǽðelstan and is about the C10th Saxon king of the same name and his struggle to defeat his enermies and unite England. I read archaeology at Southampton University and the Saxon period has always been one of my favourite periods in history.
Looking forward to meeting everyone.
Regards
Haighleagh

Hi,
It was probably me asking about MLs. I'm a big fan of your (that's all the MLs) work as I love meet-ups. I'm new to this area for this Nov, but hope to hang around for at least the next 2-3 years.
Having said that I love meet-ups, I probably won't be able to make the 1st Nov, as I'm taking a complementary therapy class. It's only 8 weekends this year, but by some unlucky coincidence it falls on the 1st and 2nd Nov and I'll be busy or travelling all day. I hope to make a decent start to the wordcount of course!
This will be year 5 for me and I managed the wordcount over those 4 years (quantity over quality, of course). I have no real ideas for my novel this year, but there's still plenty of time. Right?
Hope to catch up will you all soon.

Hi Jenny,
I don't think I can make the 1st, but I'd like to know about any other write-ins...it's my first year of doing this, and only joined with my friend last year...so we've had a lot of waiting to do!
I read on another post about something to do with meeting up at waterstones? that sounds good..particularly as the one in west quay has a costa coffee downstairs...: )
anyway, i think i've waffled enough....

Heya Jenny and all
I'm in Portsmouth but afraid I wouldn't be able to make the first of November due to working Satudays and I believe my dad is down for the weekend then. I don't know much about places in Southampton aside from my work sending me to Shirley once (part time student here originally from Essex, fifth year down here and I know shame on me for not having gone to Southampton yet).
If anyone feels like meeting up in Portsmouth this is my first year and so I have no real idea of what's to come aside from lots of typing and prodding of my muse to work. I'm around Southsea most of the time.
Good Luck All
Chris

I am unable to make the meetup on the 1st in Southampton. I am based in Basingstoke this will be my first year taking part in NaNoWriMo. Last year I did sign up but other things got in the way of me starting it.

Morning/Afternoon* (delete as appropriate) all.
I'm cwoac, PLV's SO, who has somehow been dragged into all of this this year (as opposed to last year when I simply had to wear my plot bunny hat). Anyway thats about it from me. See you guys at the meet up. I see she hasn't yet posted in the introductions thread, so I shall give her a prod about that.

Hey everyone!
I'm 28, living in Gosport.
This is my second NaNo, I did my first in 2003, and haven't had the nerve/inclinisation since :P
My SO tells me he'd like to do it this year, which is great!
I'm really looking forward to it.
Big meet ups might be a problem for us, since we're both a bit weary of large social situations, but smaller local gatherings might be cool.
Looking forward to getting to know you all...taken the liberty of adding local(ish) people to my Writing Buddy list
:)
Ciao for now!

Hey guys. :D
This is my second year doing this, but last year I had very little in the way of free time and ended up stopping somewhere around the 10k mark. This year, having decided against university for the time being, I have all the time in the world for writing and absolutely no excuse for not finishing.
Consider this my, uh... my hand-showing, also. I'm not 100% sure I can make the 1st but I'd rather you all be warned that I might show up than have me descend on you at the last minute. xD

Sorry for being so lax about replying to this, I thought I had email alerts set up, but obviously I didn't.
I'm plv, the other ML, also known as Ella. I did NaNoWriMo last year and I'm looking forward to this year's one as well.
Um ... I'm not good at introductions really. I'm writing sci-fi. I'm currently editing my NaNoWriMo novel from last year as I hope to get it published. I'm also currently hunting for an academic job.

I'm Helen, known as wartcap after my days as a Harry Potter fanfiction writer. I'm a professional author who loves the kick of Nano. Last year I completed my personal target of 25k and was aiming for this in 2008. However, after careful thought and a need to produce a completed manuscipt by the end of January I wil be trying for the 50k.
Whatever it is I write during Nano is expected by Pan MacMillan in completed form in three months time. I rather like the challenge!
I have my synopsis all completed and my characters are all as flawed and as wanting as they need be. LOL.
About me, not about the novel: I am in my thirties. I have two children. I am a nightowl. I dress up as a Tudor wench and teach children about history at the Weald and Downland museum. I write in my kitchen, in an office and at Cafe Neros in Chichester. I wrote longhand when out and about and traspose this onto type later on.
I have completed two novels previously and a number of short stories. I have been translated in Russian, Portugese and Mandarin. I write for the BBC - stories about Africa for Radio Four. I am a member of a writing group in Chichester that meet weekly.

Hi this is my first WrIMo. I had never even thought of writing anything till i found the website earlier this year and signed up on the basis that it was a long time till november. Imagine my surprise when november arrived and I started writing...not sure if I'll make the full 5k but it will be fun trying

Well, now.
My name is Nick, and I live in Southampton. I've left it far too late to get psyched up for Nanowrimo this year, and as such, it's three days in, and I haven't written a word.
I'm cheating a little this year - I did Wrimo in 2006, and completed the challenge, but only got halfway through the story. So this year, after too long a hiatus, I'm going to try and finish the thing.
This is not as much easier as it might sound. In fact, it might be harder. The reason I stalled so badly at the time was that I already knew where the story was heading, and that made the writing of it more like grinding work.
But, so, anyway, I'm in it this year, and I'd love to meet other people who are. I can't really get too far out of Southampton, but I'm not ruling it out. Really sorry I missed the meet that already happened! :(
Incidentally, in an effort that might be misconstrued as a way of putting off finishing the novel, I set up a writing website called Elephant Words - www.elephantwords.co.uk. It's six writers, daily writing Monday to Saturday, and some of the work people are doing is awesome... and if you like you can always play along with the weekly challenge...
Regards,
Nick Papa!

Hi All
I'm Mary and I live in Titchfield Common (between Soton & Pompey) and I haven't started yet, eeeeeeek! But I will tonight, promise.
I am going to re-write a novel I started in February this year. I put it on the Arts Council England "YouWriteOn" website and it got panned by reviewers except for the last chapter so that is where I start! By the way, this is a really good website for testing the water with your writing and it is free. End of plug.
I am an American who has lived in the UK for 40 years. SO and I celebrated our Ruby Anniversary in August and can honestly say the first 40 are the hardest. Should be downhill from now on.
This is my first time NoNoing and am panicing ever so slightly. What possessed me?
Good luck to all of us.
Mary

Firstly , apolagies for the delay in introducing myself.
I'm Ruth, I live in Romsey, but I go to college in Wichester, so seem to end up spending half my time there. I'm 16, and only really started writing last year, when a friend of mine introduced me to fanfiction and then fictionpress. Before that, I was a dedicated reader, and seemd to constantly astound my friends by the number of books that I got through each week (4-7 depending on size).
Anyway, writing- I wasn't going to do Nanowrimo until I had a closer look and decided that it would be a great opportunity to get down an idea I've had for a while now, and time constraints aside, it's been going pretty well, espeacially as it's my first Nanowrimo.
Am unsure as to how many write ins I'll be attending as I have a generally busy schedule and no laptop, but I might appear at a few, even if briefly.
Anyway, good luck and keep writing!
Ruth

Better late than never with the intro - but Hi!
I'm near Fareham, it's my first nano and first major piece of fiction. I usually write technical docs. I'm pretty busy at the mo, so won't be able to make much in the way of meetings - changing jobs next week, daughter expecting to produce 3rd grandchild any day!
that's probably a bit of a clue that I'm in the 'over 21' bracket, too!
I'm writing like crazy and haven't got a clue where it will all end. I wish you all success and I have my own war cry - "More words, more words!"
