I'm thinking that the Wednesday/Sunday thing worked fairly well last year.

Wednesdays after 7pm?

Sundays after 3pm?

Where do you like to write?

The Starbucks on L and 24th worked for the Sunday thing. IHOP or some other 24 hour place for Wednesdays?

Everybody in Bakersfield! I know I only showed up to maybe two events last year, but hopefully I can make it to more this year? I'm very excited and I also have a laptop this year, so maybe I can join in write-ins and the like.

Anyway, so introduce yourselves, Bakersfield participants!

My name is Rachel and I'm 25 years old. I love to write but I guess that's a no duh. I'm focusing on the same genre as last year (my personal favorite genre) YA Fantasy. I'm not going to worry about cliches, just like last year. I'm tired of people and cliches. I just want to enjoy writing and enjoy reading and not think about how overdone something is. (Although I admit that even I have pet peeves, like red-haired heroines with spunk...)

Sunday 11/8 write in - change of venue

Thanks to the generosity of Dixie, our Sunday afternoon write in will be taking place at 5500 Ming Ave, Suite 240. The name of the business is Transforming Local Communities and is on the northwest corner of Ming and New Stine (next door to the Olive Garden), at the top and to the left of the outside stairs.

Since we will have access to kitchen-y things like a sink, coffee maker, toaster, fridge, and microwave, I would like everyone to bring something snack food-ish to share, if possible. (If you can't, don't worry!) It will be a fabulous writing potluck!

More Midnight Write Ins?

Midnight write in

Since Nano starts on Sunday, I thought a midnight write in would be fun!

I scoped out the IHOP on Buck Owens/99 and they have a nice back area we can use. There's even an outlet to plug into (I'll provide an extension cord and power strip) if you're bringing your laptop.

We can gather about 11 pm, so if you need food or caffeine to keep you awake, you can order and eat/drink before midnight. At midnight we'll start writing and continue as long as you want: they are open all night.

Can't ... Stop ... Reading ...

Lately I've been reading 1-2 books a week, running the gamut from The Confessions of St. Augustine and an 18th century novel written largely in rural Scottish dialect to Stephen King and Jim Butcher. This week I'm reading the Castle tie-in novel Heat Wave. I told a friend it was probably the last book I was going to get to read for a month.

The very idea stinks on ice.

Some things I can give up for the month. Turns out reading's headed for the 'can't give up' column.

Anyone else going to be reading, or not reading during NaNo?

If you've done this before, how has that worked for you?

If you do read, do you think you'll choose things like or unlike your planned novel?

I realize I could have tossed these questions out in any one of several other forums but I thought with the smaller crowd I might actually be able to keep track of who's who. ;)

Kick-off Party!

Nano starts on a Sunday this year - yay! That means we can all stay up late on Halloween (which some of us do anyway) and get a start at 12:01 Sunday without worrying about work or school that day. I'm very happy about that.

So the kick-off party. I'm thinking Friday night (since some of you may have parties and/or trick-or-treating going on Saturday night), about 6:30 to 8pm at some place friendly to large groups, maybe pizza. Like last year basically since all my creativity is focused on my novel. :) Of course, I am open to suggestions.
