I haven't seen a topic for this yet, so if someone has already arranged one, let me know. I think this is the right forum.

What is a Nanowrimo Care Package?
The care package is a collection of items to inspire and aid the recipient in writing their novel. When I made mine two years ago, I included custom designed pens and notebooks, packets of instant coffee, and other fun memorabilia from my city. You can put in whatever you want - a thinking stone, a stuffed plot bunny. Be creative.

How does this work?
1. If you would like to participate, please PM me with the following information by Fri Oct 17th
- Your full mailing address
- Any relevant information on your favorite Nanowrimo props or a short intro piece for whoever your exchange partner will be
- Any shipping limitations (does it need to be domestic or can you mail international, etc...?)

2. Before Oct 20th, I will match you with another Nano-er and send you the mailing address and information your partner sent me.

3. From here, simply compile a care package and send it to your buddy. You can try and time it to arrive before Nov 1st or slightly after.

Additional Notes
If you do sign up to participate, please try to actually send a package to your buddy or drop them a PM explaining that you cannot. Nobody wants to be left hanging, this should be a fun way to get inspired and share what helps you write.

I promise that nothing not stated on this page will be done with your addresses and I will delete all records as soon as the exchange is finished.

Hope to get some participation! I've done this before and it's a lot of fun, I promise. :D

Moderator Note: For your safety, we must ask that any participants under the age of 18 please get your guardians' permission first before sharing your personal contact information with folks on the internet. Thanks!

Is there a value guidelines? It sounds fun but I don't want to sign up for more than I can afford.

I agree. I'd love to do it, but I need some kind of price range so I know whether I can afford it.

o.O, good idea. I'll add that up to the first post. I'm thinking a value of less than $10-20 (£5-10).

EDIT: Actually, apparently only the first post is non-editable, so hopefully people will be able to see the answer down here.

Price range = that of a cheap gift. Nothing over $20 or £10 please. (Convert currency as necessary).

I did this last year, and it was fantastic. I'm not sure if I'll be able to take part this year, though, due to lack of funds.

I might be back in a few days... XD

*bounces* I can't wait to see who I get! *already planning on what she could send* Will you be giving out their pen name as well, so we can contact them on here too? Finding out their likes and dislikes and such? Or will it be some kind of secret pal type thing?

I'll send you their Nano screenname, their address, and their intro paragraph. Feel free to talk to them in person and get a better feel for what to send if you'd like.

This also makes it easier to work out what happens if a care package doesn't arrive so you can ask the person directly instead of being left hanging by a mysterious user.

I'm glad we have a lot of interest so far. International people, don't be afraid to join in too. We have a few people willing to send overseas. I've done the care packages from Scotland before, so this is definitely not limited to US only.

Nifty idea! NM to follow.

The lack of death-rays makes me unenthusiastic about the whole project.

It sounds like fun, but the trouble is that shipping costs to a destination outside Europe are frightfully high in my country.
I was in the post office last week to send a package. There was an American in front of me sending 3 packages to the USA. The poor guy had to pay almost 70 euro!!! ($95)

There is one guy participating from Switzerland, if you'd like I can match you up and it should be cheaper.

Wait so do we send them random tidbits to inspire them or do we talk to them and send them things that we think would specifically be useful to them?

are there any teen or ya writers participating?

Hm, I might be into this... Sounds like a good idea, but I'll have to see if I can come up with any ideas of what to send first!
