So does anyone keep these and prepare for Nanowrimo by using them? My creative writing teacher got me into doing one and so far I have some plot ideas listed and a main character outlined for November.

You know, I did one year. I had little character pictures, and relationships, and character bios, and I was just going to "let my characters run away with the story".
I think that was the year that I was a week into it when I started over with a new idea.
For me, with Nano anyway, I think my best writing method is just to sit down with my computer and start typing. A story usually comes from that.
But I LOVE the IDEA of a writer's journal. :)

Right now in my writer's journal I am working on my characters. So far I have three, two majors and one minor. I'm in study hall right now and I left it at home so just searching for possible names and such. After I get a few characters done I need to work on the setting.

Mine is sort of in my head. I have characters and I think about them a lot, and in different situations. I find that if I put it down on paper, it becomes "official" and for some reason this scares me. I blame bureacracy...I now fear paperwork! But it's very organized in my head, so I guess I would say "yes" but mine is paperless!
