Skyrocket Caffeinated Syrup (raspberry): Tolerable. But i cant find it anymore. Designed to be mixed with other beverages. Can also be taken as 'shots.' Monitor your consumption.
Bawls: It'll do in a pinch. as sugary as the rest of them, but with a very mild flavor. Also comes in sugar free (i think). :D and the bottles are pretty.
Redbull/Rockstar/Monster/Etc: Strong tangy flavor, and lots of sugar, in the sugarated ones (there are also sugar free). Effects me only slightly more than regular soda pop. If you can find KMX, go for the blue, not the orange!
Cocaine (the energy drink, not the drug): I actually found this at my corner gas station. VERY POWERFUL. approach with caution.
5 Hour Energy: This is my favorite for all-nighters or very extended days. Those little bottles have two doses, and are mostly powered by B vitamins. I have never gotten the jitters from this, and don't find that i have trouble falling asleep after consumption. Warning: will turn urine neon yellow.
Energy Mints I Have Tried: It is to laugh. Flatline. El Zilcho. No wake-up juice, and they are barely even minty.
Irwin Naturals Triple Boost: I picked these up at the vitamin shoppe, took two, and thought i was having a panic attack. Highly effective, but be extremely careful. I don't think i'd recommend this for everyone.
STOK: little creamer-sized shots of a concentrated coffee-like substance. I haven't tried this yet. Any reviews?
Any other ideas/recommendations? :D please share. My favorite is when i don't get fired for falling asleep at my computer. I might sound like a junkie at this point, but it's worse than that; i'm a professional artist, and one of the weird ones that doesn't do any drugs. :D

Vojo - Small mints - very tangy and work okay.
Mad Croc - Gum in citrus and peppermint flavors. Seems to work
Black Black - Tea flavored gum. Long lasting flavor and seems to work pretty well.
Jolt - All the sugar, twice the caffiene. Very tasty but tough to find.

Spike - I don't know how widely available it is, and it doesn't taste that great, but I gave a co-worker half a can once and she was wired. I love this stuff. Despite the bad taste.

Mana - comes in a little vial just like mana bottles from RPG games. Unfortunately, we can't get it here in Canada, but from what I've heard, it's pretty concentrated stuff.

This may be the far end of fancy, but I'm going to be experimenting with making cowboy coffee. Bring a quart of water to a boil, add 3/4 cup coffee, bring to boil again, then remove from heat, cover and wait 5 minutes until the grounds sink. Supposed to be really potent stuff. Best made and consumed outside over an open fire.

i first read about adding an egg to coffee made this way in cryptonomicon. basically you let the egg cook in the coffee and capture the grounds. It might negate the double boil, but here is a quick article that expands upon this idea anyway: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/156059/egg_drop_coffee_is_a_old...
if you try it, please let me know how it goes!

I didn't try it with the egg, that just seemed too strange. Plus, the size of pots I took camping, the egg would take up too much volume.
But, as far as the cowboy coffee goes...Best coffee ever. Not bitter at all, nice, strong, smooth, good either with half-half or black. It'd be hard to replicate indoors, though. The ambiance is definitely part of the flavor. I did learn to do the "cowboy flick", where it's down to the last millimeter of liquid, you flick real quick to get rid of the grounds.
I'm ready for some more...

YEAHH *yells from Northern Wilderness*
Nothing better than some good ol' cowboy coffee on a hobo stove. : ).
Gotta have something to keep ya going on those hikes.
The best way to make cowboy coffee is to make it in either a campfire coffee container or a large tin (convieniently, an old coffee can like one of the old Folgers'). When the coffee is boiled, grab the tin by the wire handle (which you've attatched to the sides of the coffee can), and spin it around (like the water-in-a-bucket experiment) to make the grounds settle...yay for centrifugal force!
Now I want to camping now. Thanks...haha only joking. Good memories :)

Watch what you're doing with the caffeine, people!
I thought I was a hardened woman of the world, and drank much much more caffeine than most people do in the form of tea, coffee and red bull, last year. However somehow this has now turned into a caffeine intolerance, and the slightest hint of caffeine (yes even as much as is in a square of chocolate) gives me huge heart-palpitations.
So please be careful.
( I kind of wish that I still had the luxury of being able to drink caffeine and enjoy it, but I don't want others to go through what I've been through)

I was wondering if there was any side effects of Irwin Naturals Triple Boost that the OP talked about, and where would I find them?
And are there any energy drinks for those of us who don't like the taste of most? I can't stand the taste of the energy drinks I've tried. I'm not sure why, maybe the syrupy-like taste or something.

Thanks for the reviews! Useful info.
For me, a double tall mocha (less milk, more espresso) is fine. If I'm really in a hardcore mood, I'll get a double espresso with cream and just slam it down with some sugar. Two shots usually keeps me alert for about three hours.
Mixing caffeine with booze can be a very bad idea, by the way, especially if you're tired. Remember that caffeine will speed your uptake of other drugs.
I have never gotten to like the taste of energy drinks (they're either way too sugary or full of artificial chemicals, usually both). I try to get adequate sleep (off and on, depending on how early I have to get up or how much I have to do).
Ephedrine is a stimulant, still available in various forms, health and sports drinks/foods/pills, but beware! It's being outlawed more and more, for good reason. The stuff has been known to kill without warning (a 20-something pro athlete dropped dead after taking it).

Ephedrine gets a lot of bad rap, but it largely comes down to:
1) what's your health like to start with?
and
2) what are you doing /while/ you're taking the ephedrine?
For my part, I've gotten pretty fond of Diet Pepsi Max, as a casual drink. I'm a Coca-Cola person all the way, but on this campus, it's hard to come by. Max is like standard diet pepsi, but with added ginseng and caffeine. Good for getting through the day if you're not a coffee drinker.
For all-nighters, I tend to favor Sobe (they make one of the few decent sugarfree energy drinks) and No-Doz. Be careful with those, though. If you haven't built up a pretty serious tolerance, they can be jarringly strong.
I have a cabinet full of Jolt gum, but I can't vouch for it. The taste is disappointing. Can't say whether it works.

Yes, please at least think about this advice, everyone. I've known several people this has happened to. People that used to drink several POTS of coffee a day, and now they vomit if they have just a little bit of green tea. :-( Not to mention you'll just keep needing more and more and more to get your "boost", and remember that caffeine actually injures your digestive tract.
Sorry to rant, I just care about my fellow wrimos!

I guess I'm old fashioned in a new fashion way - that is, I drink coffee, but I have a lovely Keurig single cup coffee brewer that is quick, easy, and makes a great fresh, hot cup/mug of coffee whenever I want and/or need it.

I'm sticking with coffee personally, not much and only ever at the weekends for the time being. I do get the proper stuff from Whittard's though, it's currently their caramel flavoured instant because I don't have my cafietierre down with me, but I will be getting the tubs of other flavours when I do collect it just because.

I love our Keurig! It's amazing. It just makes a great cup of coffee.
I'm tempted to try Cowboy coffee just because that sounds sooo good. Although today if I hit 15 (maybe 16...)k words I'm treating myself to a Gingerbread Latte.
Oh and I third that caffiene OD thing. My mom loooves coffee and she would drink it all day long. Suddenly she had some really weird s/s. Now she can't have coffee, tea with caffiene, chocolate, or booze. So just be careful.
