I want to put my story on a schedule, to keep on track. Anyone else? If so, what does yours look like?

I had kind of thought about doing this. Because I work full-time I thought that it might be a little easier.

I was thinking that maybe I'd go to work, come home and write for about an hour, and hopefully in that hour I'd churn out at least 2k and then I'd get online, do my chatting with friends and maybe write some more.

But, that was just a thought that crossed my mind.

I just created an Excel spreadsheet to track my words. My plan is to write 5000 words every weekend day and 2000 words every weekday. The exception is the break I'm going to take on November 15 & 16. I'm not going to write anything those two days.

This will have me writing roughly 75k words. Since my real goal is only 50k, I'm not going to have to stress too much about making my goal. I'd LIKE to make 75k, but I won't feel as though I failed if I don't. Plus, it gets me in the habit of writing every day with only a short break half-way through. Oh, and a break at Thanksgiving because my mom will be visiting and she's forbidden our whole family from using the computers while she's around. *rolls her eyes*

Anyway, I created a spreadsheet to track the amount of words I want to write each day, the total amount I should have written at the end of each day, and how much over/under I've done compared to what I have mapped out.

I know. Anal much?

I have my whole month's schedule laid out - day by day, hour by hour, wordcount that I should complete by the end of the session, etc. Here's an example (but it's not really part of mine, just one I made up...)

November 1st
12:00 am - 1:00 am (2000)
*
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm (4000)
8:00 pm - 8:30 pm (5000)
TOTAL FOR DAY 1 : 5K

November 2nd
8:30 am - 9:30 am (2000)
5:00 pm - 5:30 pm (3000)
9:00 pm - 10:00 pm (5000)
TOTAL FOR DAY 2 : 10K

I don't have a strict schedule. It's more like an Excel spreadsheet with targets for every five days...not much, but it might help. I'll be happy just to get 2000 words down each day. I'm not sure about this year's novel. I don't think it's quite so solid as the one from last year (which now has a sequel that I'm working on).

I'm thinking about putting myself on a schedule, but I'm afraid that I won't be able to keep on track.

I'm thinking I definitely want to write every night, since I'm usually on the computer then. On weekends I plan to write first thing in the morning right after breakfast (I can get a lot done then). I don't have a specific schedule yet, but I might work one out if I can.

I do know that last year I finished in 8 days, and this year I want to finish in 6 if I can. So I need to write, at minimum, around 7,000+ a day.

I've found that I'm way more likely to get a lot done in the morning, so I'm going to start waking up at 6 or 7 a.m. Take 30-45 minutes to shower, dress, eat breakfast, grab a cup of tea and turn on the laptop. Then I'm going to turn on music and get to work for at least an hour. I know that when 9 o'clock rolls around I tend to get distracted, so I'll probably do the bulk of my writing in those few hours of quiet, and then write in small spurts throughout the day. :)

I can't force myself to fit a really strict regimen. I'll try to get the coveted 1667/day, but some days will be higher and some may be lower. As long as I'm more or less on track - I'll probably check that a few times over the course of the month - I'm not going to sweat the small stuff.

We're two people, and we're doing alternate days.
Don't know how it's going to work out, as neither of us has done this before (safety in numbers ^^), so we'll see.
But we're going along the lines of 1667 approx a day, and will just see where that gets us.

My schedule is to write approximately 2K a day. Some days I'll write more, some days less. And I hope that schedule will make this year a winner! ;) Because I totally gave up last year... but then I didn't have an outline of the story or anything... My advise; don't wing it! Have an outline and a schedule. It makes everything so much easier! :D

I'm worried now! I scheduled a trip to Vegas from the 11th to the 13th, then my parents are visiting from the 14-16th :O Plus I work 8-5 (obviously, able to do off-task things)...AND it's my first time doing it! Yikes!!!

Good luck everyone!

I would create a schedule... If I knew what kind of assignments and essays I'll be getting from college. We're starting the new term in November, so I have no clue whatsoever as to what to expect. I'm hoping to just be able to write during the week and sundays, as I work saturdays. I'm really curious to find out if I'll actually be able to complete NaNoWriMo this year, as everything is so completely different from last year.

I just aim to write as much as I can on the first few days, then try to hit 2k every day after that, that way if real life decides to hit me in the face I can take a day or two off later during the month ^.^

My plan is to do 2000 words a day so that i will be finished with 50,000 by Nov.20th. I 've got lots of family coming in for Thanksgiving. I write better late at night, but I am going to try to become an early morning writer....so we shall see how it goes. This is my second nano.

Mercy on me! Well, the plan WAS to write a LOT on weekends, and a little in the mornings, done before 6:30am, or between 7:30 and 9 pm if all the homework/quizzes/etc are graded by then. Plus my classes will be writing for at least 30 minutes in each class, so I can write then......

NOW, I don't know. I have a great plan ready, but you know what they say about those!. This month should be very interesting...

I have two schedules:
(a) An adjusted word-count-per-day one on a 1952-words-a-day schedule so I can finish before Thanksgiving
(b) A piece of paper pointing out how many hours a day I have free to write at all.

I don't have a very strict schedule. Being that I don't have permanent residence here in Canada right now, I'm not able to work, so I can sit and write whenever I want to while my husband-to-be is working, LOL.

Basically, I set myself a plan to write 2-4,000 words a day. My best writing time is in the evening and night, and always has been, and that's when I can churn out the most material. I'll do a few hundred in the early to late afternoon for about a half hour, then go do other things and do chores and errands. If I don't work at it like this, then I go crazy trying to write a gazillion words all in one sitting, and make my wrists (and behind) hurt!
