Wednesday Write-In

Hi all,

I'll be at Autumn Leaves again this Wednesday, starting around 6pm. I've got a ton of writing to do - I've been terrible about writing these couple of days while I've been out of town. Anyone else feeling a bit stuck? I know the only thing to do is just write my characters out of the hole I just put them into, but it's going to be awkward. Oh well. Onward and upward, as they say. Come and keep me company on Wednesday if you're free!

Wednesday Write in at Autumn Leaves

Hi All,

Due to some requests, there will be a Wednesday evening write-in at Autumn Leaves's Owl Cafe, starting at 5pm. Owl Cafe is open until 9pm on Wednesday night, so you come anytime up until then. I'll be there around 5:30pm. Please remember that they don't allow outside food - if you need a dinner break, you can't bring the food in with you. And help Owl Cafe to like us by buying the occasional coffee or tea.

For those who don't know where to find it: Autumn Leaves is on the Commons, near the Cayuga Street End.

Thanks all! See you then!

Counting notes in word count

Tammers suggested in the "Editing in November" thread that it might be kosher to include notes to ourselves as part of our word count. Can anybody point to a place in the FAQ (or elsewhere) that states this? That would be pretty useful, as I could just highlight all of my text to do a word count (instead of de-selecting all the random bits in brackets sprinkled throughout my novel).

Thanks for your pointer, Tammers. No surprise here, but the Ithaca community is looking pretty down to earth and supportive.

Editing in November

How does everyone manage to avoid editing their novels this month? This is only my second day, and already I'm having to restrain myself to keep from tinkering. The thing is, I jumped into it last night with the simplest of ideas, and it's already going through some huge changes. One character changed drastically, so that some situations must be tweaked, and so on. So I reworked some of it just now, and the net result for the last 20 minutes was that I LOST word count.

I'm guessing the best thing is to get way ahead of the mark so that I have time to do some editing if I must. I'd love to know how everyone else in town handles this issue.

I posted this here, because I've grown weary of big discussion groups where there's not much actual dialogue. Also, if I'm going to get to know anybody here, it might as well be people I'll be running into at Wegmans later in the week.

Okay... back at it. Thanks in advance, etc.

Wednesday Write in at Smart Monkey!

Hi everyone,

I've called Smart Monkey Cafe on Rte 13 (335 Elmira Road) and gave them a heads up that some of us may be appearing to write at their establishment this Wednesday night, beginning at 5pm. I won't be able to get there until about 6, but as they're only open until 8, I wanted to start it early for anyone who could go. For those of you who find getting to 13 difficult - don't worry, I've also scheduled write-ins every Sunday at Autumn Leaves. Or, if you can get there but are worried about getting home - I'm happy to give people rides back to their homes at the end of the write-in. Just send me a nanomail. Finally, if you're going to be writing someplace public, don't hesitate to advertise it here on the forums. Let people know so they can join you.

In short:
Write in at Smart Monkey Cafe
Wednesday, 5pm

See you there!
Write-ins and Write in Locations

Hi everyone!

I thought we'd get a thread going on where people like to have write-ins. I think Autumn Leaves is a great place (as it's independent and nicely centrally located) but I would be interested in other ideas. I don't know how busy the write-ins will be this year, but I think it'd be nice if we could set up at least two a week - one on the weekend and one during the week.

Tuesday Writing

Just wanted to invite anyone who wants to sit down and write with me to meet me at Stella's in Collegetown tomorrow. This is not anything official but I will be there by 10:30 and do not have a client appointment until 3:30 so am writing for those 4 1/2 to 5 hours. I will probably be in the back corner if I can get there.

1st Write In

Hey all,

Let's set our first write in for Sunday, Novermber 1st. Autumn Leaves opens at noon, if we want to meet then. We can meet earlier at another location, but I'd like to to be a place that has decent bus coverage on Sundays (so near the commons or the mall) so lots of people can come. We can spread out our locations after this first one. What do people think?

Thanks,
Kick-off Party and Meet and Greet

Hi Everyone!

It's never too early to start thinking about Nanowrimo. I think we should have a get-together before November 1st to meet our fellow novelists here in Ithaca. Since I imagine many of us will be busy on Saturday, October 31st, I thought it'd be nice if we met earlier in the week in the early evening at a bookstore or coffee shop and made some introductions. I will have welcome stickers! Any suggestions about locations and or day of the week that would be best? I was thinking about someplace near the Commons would be most central. Of course, as the month comes, we can schedule write-ins at various locations around town.

Vote on my plot idea (please!)

Hi folks,

I've decided to try something a bit different this year in coming up with my NaNo plot: I'm not actually going to come up with it. Instead, I've chosen several promising plots from David Malki!'s fiction generator on Wondermark (link to follow) and I'm letting other people vote on it. Other people means you! So what crazy idea do you want to see me struggle with? Go vote below! I'll be very grateful if you do :)

http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dElJZGJ3WjhadU9GbjZRSkZi...

Thanks, folks! I appreciate it!
