It can be word count, plot direction, use of cheats, whatever.

My personal goal is 50,000 words WITH contractions, and only ONE PLOTLINE...except for the unexpected Soviet who somehow always winds up in one of my stories.

What about ya'll?

Because this is my first year participating, my goal is solely to reach the 50k word mark. If I have to go back and undo all my contractions to get a few more words, so be it. LoL! I really hope I only have one plotline though and that it doesn't do a 360 degree turn on me in the middle of the month.

My goal is to finally write down this story idea I've been tossing around for ages. I'll be super disappointed if I don't get this idea hashed out, because I think it could be awesome :)

This is my first year though, so the 50k mark is the big goal.

To write 50K.

Coming from an undefeated 4-time winner I know this doesn't seem like much at all. But this year I face great obstacles. Not only am I traveling on weekends, I'm getting married the day after Thanksgiving, which will cut my noveling month short. Not to mention all the planning that goes into that. My mother half-jokingly forbid me to participate this year because I can't afford to put all my energies into my novel like I could in previous years. But I am armed with my outlines and an Alphasmart. Nothing can stop me from writing on the go.

So yeah...this year 50,000 is my primary goal. It's like my 1st year all over again.

This is my first year, so aiming for finishing the book. It'll be somewhere in the neighborhood of 50,000-70,000 words. I haven't ever written a story longer than 1,200 words and I've only written about 7,000 words in my stories and poems, so this is a HUGE commitment for me.

My goal is to finish at least the first half of the story. Because it's told in two parts (when the characters are in the present, and then when they go back in time), even if I only do one half, a lot is still being said.

Whether I get the actual 50k or not isn't that important. I just want to write at least this much, so that I have something to show my brother this Christmas. (Maybe that way he'll forgive me for not working on my "Cold?" fic.)

Since this is my second year, my goal is to beat last years word count of just over 50K by reaching 70K. I'd also like to have a novel that makes some sense. Last year's was a cheerful chaotic mess with Godzilla sized zombie hippos. (I ran out of ideas at around 40K.)

My goal is to actually finish my novel. I can get to 50k, sure. But my novels always seem to run between 100-150k by the time they're complete, and I don't know how long my NaNo this year is going to run.
So yes, I would love to be able to type The End on November 30th, and then worry about editing the whole thing in December. :D

Oh, wow! Congratulations!

I'm a complete newbie and 50K stands like an unsurmountable looming peak of terror. Additional goals sound terrifying. Mine is to finish a story. And hopefully have it be 50K though I am considering to, like essays, give myself a marginal percent.

My goal is to beat my previous highest word count which was 30,000. With a lot happening in November this will be a big challenge. Good luck all nanos.

This year it is simply to complete it. I am incredibly busy practically non-stop so completely would be a major acheievement. But also, it would be to keep my writing light-hearted/humouress/NOT SERIOUS! Always fall into the serious trap and want to avoid that at all costs this year unless absolutely, completely necessary!

500k. Yup, I'm serious. But I won't actually get that far, I don't think. I'll do my very best, though!

100K this year. I'm tired of getting to the end of the month and having to slice huge chunks out of the end of my plot so the story gets finished by the end of November. So I figure if I aim for a higher wordcount, I'll get through the story faster and will be able to keep it at the length it wants to be.

It's my first time and something very different for me as I'm a visual artist and not a writer (though I do enjoy reading a lot). So my aim is to see this through to the end, no matter how crappy it may be. It's going to be difficult, since I'm just wrapping up my study for the semester as well, I honestly don't know where I'll find the time to write so much every day. But hey, I have an idea and a laptop to go wherever I do. I really want to see where this can take me.

Just for a change :)

My goal (after winning for the first time last year) is to actually finish my story. Last year I made it to 53k on November 25th and then I just stopped. Took me half a year to start working on it again.

So this year I'm trying not to let that happen. November 30th I will have a 'The End'.

Good luck to you all!

300-350k, and actually finish atleast one of the novels. But really, 150k would even be good. I'm just going to write as much as I possibly can, while keeping some semblance of a story and plot.

Like Bug, I want to finish my novel and I don't know how long it will be, but my stories are always long. So I would like to try for 100 000 this year and maybe I can get even more.

I have two goals: 55,000 or more and a complete novel. Last year I tried to finish my novel but it went NOWHERE and I started another one and got almost to the end -- over 70,000 words total.

I want to finish my story (and reach 50k, of course). I don't want to resort to padding just to reach the word count. I fully expect this novel will be longer than 50k, and would like to end November with a complete first draft.

I'd like a decent, complete, 100k+ story, and 150k+ overall.

I'm trying to actually finish my story because A) I'm entering it in a contest that ends on November 30 and want it to be complete and B) I'm kind of hoping to submit it a few places if it turns out well, so I'm probably heading more for 75k than 50k (yikes!). We'll see how that goes, haha.

50,000+ words.

Serious plot.

Finished or close to finished by the end of the month.

Accurately reflects the reality I'm trying to portray.

Doesn't get laughed at by my English teacher when I let her read it.

50k of course,

Instill in myself a habit of writing daily,

limber up my creative brain,

Have something I can begin to edit with an eye to shopping it around. I dream of publishing!!

Have a great time doing all the above!

My goal is to end the month with a complete story. Hopefully a complete (though very rough) story checking in at more than 50K words, but I'm more interested in complete than I am in word count. This is my second year trying Nanowrimo and I was delighted with how well participating shut up my internal nag. I wrote a complete story last year (only 32,000 words, but hey!) and loved it. After editing, I even sold the story. (PM me for more details on that). So...for this year, another month of delightful, nag-free writing and hopefully, another story.

I'd like to get to 80k but I won't beat myself up if I only do 50k, as long as I end up with a complete story.

Though it's my first year I'd love to reach 85k words. I've done it before, just not for NaNo, and certainly not in a month. So I'll be writing every day, like crazy, trying to reach that goal. But I suppose that anything over 50k will work! And to get 50k done in 2-3 weeks would be lovely. Highly doubt that'll happen, but a newbie can dream, right? ^^ To stick completely to the chapter by chapter written plot line I all ready have set, though in every book I write I add about five other plots.

50,000 is all I am hoping for this year.
College doesn't really provide time for doing much more.
This is more of a test of how I can hold in my inner critic.
Hopefully this year I'll do it! :)

My goal is 50K, which thus far I've always been able to accomplish (2006 and 2007). The twist this year is that I'm going to try to do it only on days my husband is not home. Between the fact that he has recently begun working from home on Fridays, will take all of Thanksgiving week off, and has November 11th off as well, that leaves me twelve writing days! I did the math and that works out to just under 4200 words per day. He's all for me doing Nano every year though, so if I it looks like I'm not going to make it, I'll just have to write when he is home. :P

It would also be nice to have the novel finished. I still haven't finished my 2006 novel, and only recently finished my 2007 novel.
