In the spirit of the great race, here's a dare for those who care to try it.
Put a horse race in your novel. Or a dragon race for you fantasy writers.
And have the winner win in a similar way to whoever wins tomorrow.
Oh, and give it a name that's an anagram of tomorrow's winner too (or at least derived from it).
Anyone up for it?

Sounds fun, but could I use the undead instead of dragons? My fantasy doesn't have dragons in it.

That's very easy for me, seeing as my entire book is about a particular type of horse. XD And it's fantasy!

I just had to make an imaginary land with no horses, didn't I? Damnit. We should make it that someone's wearing a stupid hat as well; a bystander or spectator, or maybe the things that are racing.

An undead race? I have to see this. Zombies?
Yes, stupid hats should be compulsory.
And to anyone else asking, I don't think it really matters what is racing. I'm going to do boats. Consider these the essential elements to the dare:
1. A race. Won closely or by a large margin in a similar manner to the 2008 melbourne cup.
----------2. The name of the winner should be related in some way to the winner of the cup.
3. There should be stupid hats.

Just so everyone knows, a horse called "Viewed" won the race. Was well ahead in the straight but ended up by winning by half a nostril.
I can't wait to see the Zombie race that LimboWoman makes of that! :-)

Oh, and Viewed is an aussie horse, trained by Bart Cummings. And that in the race where everyone thought the imports were going to dominate.
I can use that.

I love dares.
I got 3.5K words out of this.
I'm sure it's awful, but who cares!

We should have an Obama/McCain dare on the day they announce the winner.

I've already used the line "back in the day when nobody ever thought America would elect and African American as their president."
I couldn't quite get my head around a melbourne cup-esque race but I do have a group of people in ridiculous fashions with stupid hats. The phrase 'melbourne cup' was also used a couple of times. Does this count?

Hmm. I think that counts. I would count it; I got to use the undead, after all.

Hmm, my novel won't have any organised horse races, but horses are used as transport, as well as a primitive car prototype. Maybe I can have a horse racing against a car.
