Returning or New: Welcome to the very best of the Wrimo regions!

There's always a place on every forum for people to say hello and announce that the Wrimo crown will be theirs. As the official lead novelist (and non-ML, tyvm) from last year, I do believe that it is my evostic prerogative to utilize massively verbose rhetoric, not only to disguise a lack of actual interpretive content but also to create, by spate of words and exceptional misuse of Roget's contribution to the written concept, a welcome of proper NaNoWriMo proportions to all and sundry.

In 2005, Maryland ranked in at the #1 writing locale in the world; last year saw us in 4th place. This year, I declare my goals (in no particular order) as follows:

Put Maryland back on top, #1 in the world

Properly school certain upstart Wrimos in some state down south (*cough* Lushguins *cough*)

Exceed last year's output in total number of words

Have a boatload of fun!

Part of that last goal involves everyone else in the Maryland Wrimo community. So I am extending (via this forum string) the opportunity for each of us to publicly announce the following:

Name

Novel title (if known or suspected)

Noveling genre

Word count goal

Location in the great state of Maryland

Number of years NaNoing/Number of years won

Simple enough, I think! As an example:

Name: Caeraerie (John)

Novel title (if known or suspected): Avatar's Dreaming and Twice Bitten, Once Dead

Noveling genre: AD-fantasy/scifi, TBOD-police procedural

Word count goal: More than Soluna (last year she wrote 201,000 words)

Location in the great state of Maryland: Baltimore City, Overlea area

Years done NaNo/Years won: 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 / Won 2004, 2005, and 2006!

En Avaunt!
Maryland DARES and Maryland SUCCEEDS!

This is the promised thread where you are to post your responses to Maryland's DARES: Poe and Ravens.

As an example:

Caeraerie wrote:
Charles turned back from the window with an air of dejection. The view from the thirty-fifth floor of the E&E depot had never been inspiring, and the briefing room had been decorated by someone whose humor tinged on the morbid. Over the door, a bust of the ancient Grecian goddess Athene was decorated with a large stuffed raven, and beneath both, traced along the lintel of the door, was the single word: NEVERMORE.

Kinda made you think twiceabout the whole thing, really.

Good luck!

Our God-like powers
• MLs decide what “good sportspersonship” means.
• We reserve the right to remove folks from the competition for any violation of the rules and guidelines listed above.
• MLs are the final authority in any dispute or question about the rules.

Regional Events Thread - Read Only

I'm setting up this thread so your ML's can announce official regional events and list them here. Kick-Off parties, Write-Ins, a possible Write-a-Thon for 11/17, other events as thought up, and of course the TGIO parties will be listed here as well as on our calendar, located here:

http://calendar.yahoo.com/punahougirl84

If you are volunteering to host a write-in, please contact an ML via email with the date, time, location, your NNWM profile name, and any other details, so we can schedule them (and avoid conflicts if necessary). Please do NOT post it here, but feel free to discuss possible write-ins in the Write-in thread. Once events are confirmed I will be adding them to our calendar.

We had a bunch of wonderful hosts last year, and look forward to volunteers who will help us assist all Maryland Wrimos in writing and FINISHING their NaNovels!

Thank you for reading - I'm off to get help making this a sticky thread!

Continuing Writing Group(s)

Several of us have discussed starting a continuing writing group, and I said I would post a thread.

I'm not sure if we will continue to use this forum for that, but this thread will at least give you a place to get started. I already have a site I'm paying for, and a forum set up.

If you are interested in future meet ups, setting up a group or groups who can bounce ideas, critique, essentially being a writing group, you can email me at punahougirl84ATgmailDOTcom - my nano mail goes to my yahoo address, but I think it will be easier to use gmail as it threads discussions. I will collect names and emails and we will go from there.

Udar is looking to do something similar in Southern Maryland. If you are interested in doing something in your area, please feel free to post a new thread. Or you may already have made friends and wish to NaNoMail them or email them. Go for it! Not that we all won't be taking a bit of a break right now, but there is always January!

Looking forward to editing, writing, submitting, and publishing with some other interested individuals! If you already gave me your contact information, you do not need to send email (though you can and then the address book will have you already!).

Also, please don't post your full email here - those dang spam bots are working overtime!

Southern Maryland!!! Shout Out here! (Charles, Calvert, St Mary's)

Hello WriMos down in the Southern Counties!

I would love to work out some details on Write Ins down here.
I encourage each COUNTY to get a write in set up and we can coordinate from there. However, its nice for us to at least have one thread. Haha...

St Mary's - Lexington Park Library is looking real good, the librarians are interested in learning about National Novel Writing Month, so things looking good for us to meet there, plus my house is like three blocks away, so I could even host after the library closes, for those interested.

Thread for Christmas and beyond!

While I know NanoWrimo is over for November, I also know we've got many who post on the other forums and our Maryland region becomes a bit quiet, err. Well, to be honest, it nearly shuts down completely.

Please know the forum is still open, I usually check in daily, sometimes every other day.

Don't be a stranger. Tell us what's up with you. It doesn't necessarily have to be about your novel, but you can surely update us on whether or not you burned it, deleted it, or are in the throes of editing it righteously to send it out for acceptance. We wanna know ALL about it.

Tell us your Christmas plans, excitement or woes. Nanowrimo is actually a great bonding place for all of us. We learn from each other and share a lot. This is a wonderful place that need not be dormant for 10-11 months out of the year.

Writers' retreat anyone?

Regional Word Counts!

Hi All!

Thanks to NewMexicoKid, co-ML for Illinois::Naperville (western Chicago suburbs), you can see regional statistics here:

http://graphing.teiru.net/2007/regions/

He did a really interesting version that shows not just total word count, average wordcount, and number of people included in it (I think only those who have entered a wordcount) and rankings like the one above, but one that also shows total number of affiliated writers, the % that are active, the number that have set the region as Home, etc! It is very cool, but it is limited to just a few regions and Maryland is not on the list. Still, you can see it here:

http://naperwrimo.org/nanostats/

Enjoy procrastinating like I just did! I note that Maryland is second in total overall wordcount, but 138th by average wordcount.

Official Trash-Talkin' Thread for Challenge 2007

This is the place where all the FUN is...the mini-rules on this are listed below!

---------------------
Trash-talkin’
• Each team will have a clearly labeled “trash talk” thread. The Lushguins trash talk thread will be in the Austin Lounge. Trash talk is to be posted ONLY to the trash talk thread and should remain in good fun and within the bounds of good sportspersonship.

Our God-like powers
• MLs decide what “good sportspersonship” means.
• We reserve the right to remove folks from the competition for any violation of the rules and guidelines listed above.
• MLs are the final authority in any dispute or question about the rules.

Remember It’s All in Fun
• In the heat of competition, we sometimes forget it’s just a game. If you have a concern or question about anything regarding the competition, please contact your challenge coordinator before you post.

----------------------

<

2007 is going to be so awesome!

Official Losers Thread

Hi hi!

First congratulations to all the wonderful 2007 winners!

But we losers deserve a special thread to commiserate. What happened to keep you from winning this month? What do you plan to do differently next year? (Because not trying again is not an option!)

My "excuses": can I use the "I have 5 children" card? lol Actually I started a sewing business earlier this year and November was a very busy month with lots of people ordering Christmas gifts. So I spent many, many hours cutting fabric and sewing instead of writing. If I could have dictated my novel, I totally could have won.

Next year I'm going to have a firm outline with characters and locations. Winging a Sci-fi novel is definitely not as easy as making up Mom Lit on the spot (well at least for me). And I'm going to look into voice to text recognition software. ;)

336 days* until next NaNoWriMo!

* 2008 is a leap year, I'll make sure to use that extra day for some good outlining. Or sleeping. Whatever.
