After being into NaNoWriMo 2008 by one week, it is time to make the grand announcement of the TGIO party that is coming up. This year's TGIO part will be located at:
Drum roll please...
Powell's City of Books
1005 W Burnside
Portland, OR 97209
Saturday, December 6, 2008
3:00 - 6:00pm
You will find an events room at Powell's City of books which is where we will be. We are still in the planning stages of what all we will be doing, but this will give you an opportunity for you to share a snippet of your story with all that attend. It's like having your own book reading at one of Portland's favorite bookstores! So be sure to mark your favorite parts as you are writing them.
More information will be passed on as it becomes available.

Two statements and a question!
I love you guys forever for getting the TGIO party to be at Powell's -- it's my favorite place in the entire city, easily.
Can we bring snacks for the party, or is that a no-go because of the location?
Can we come and party but not read?

Can we sing the Nanowrimo Theme Song at TGIO?

Don't want to read, do want to party, and ... theme song?

Yes -- I want to sing a theme song, loudly, all of us together, drunk on our accomplishments! Also...any clues from the organizers how much a "snippet" of reading is? If I can get my printer to work I might read a bit, and would like to be a little prepared on what to expect...Looking forward to meeting all of you! We rock.

Given the number of possible readers, folks should expect to have just a couple of minutes in the limelight. Maybe 200-300 words?

Hello!
My son and I are first-timers - Yea! We both finished. What does TGIO stand for?
Thanks,
MK

Bless! Imagine not knowing what TGIO means--no doubt you've figured it out? Frankly, I hadn't heard of it before, either, but after finishing (with 50,312 words--yay yay yay), I realized what it meant.
Thank you, Heather, for all your hard work and for keeping up with our emails, even on the final day of NaNo.
See you all at Powell's on the 6th! (And I hope those of you who don't want to read will change your minds and share your great work; this is the time to do it.)
Cheers,
Jen H.

I did it! Hooray!!! I got hopelessly (I thought) behind in the second week, but I poured on the steam and got it done in the last four days! Here it is:

So, I am not sure I'll make the wingding, since I'll be at a writing workshop earlier int he day, but it sounds like fun. Powell's is a wonderful place. It's where hubby and I went on our first date. Ahhh! The memories!

So, what are the 'rules'?
Potluck: bring snacks and drinks? Or no food? Will there be food at all?
What about alcohol? I know in some public places, if that place doesn't have a liquor license, you cannot bring alcohol there... and I don't think they have one... of course, I could be wrong about that...
Hopefully we'll have a good crowd this time... it's been small the last two years...
Amanda... waiting patiently for Saturday....

Yes, I too would like to hear more details about what to expect...
Still waiting to hear if we are allowed to bring guests...

I'll be sending out an e-mail with much more information later this evening.
Quick answers to some of the questions:
- Yes, you are allowed (and are encouraged) to bring guests.
- Yes, there will be food in a potluck type fashion. Please bring finger foods only as we will not be having plates in an effort to cut down on waste.
- We will have a large portion of time cut out for reading, please have a piece prepared that will last no more than 5 minutes.
- All other (and additional) info will be in the e-mail. So please, keep an eye on your Inbox's... and see you at the TGIO!

Perks for the winners!!
well, we're all winners in my eyes (anyone who attempts to write a novel, let alone in 30 days, is oen kick-a** person)... but this is for those who hit 50K:
I could make a new thread about this, but I think since we're not all probably perusing the forums as much , I figured putting it here might be best.
A few weeks back in the "Businesses Encouraging NaNo..." thread, Werus posted a link to Portland Center Stage blog. They're offering 4 tickets to a showing of Dicken's A Christmas Carol for those who bring in their printed out Winner's Certificates. Awesome, huh? I just went down and picked mine out. I even got a Saturday evening (the 13th). I chose Balcony because then I can see the whole stage better... I'm weird that way.
There's no deadline for getting your tickets, but I'd suggest getting them sooner rather than later. You can pick any of the days/shows it's showing... Mondays are dark. Just bring your print out of your certificate in to the box office...
Just thought I'd throw it out to everyone who finished in a slightly more visible spot...
FYI: They're in the block right behind Powells...

When we get the tickets from PCS, do we have to be the person who uses them, or can we give them as a gift to a friend?

Never mind - I called, and the tickets are transferable.

This is my first forum post!
I enjoyed the readings! Sorry I didn't edit a bit more before I read the section. At least it got some laughs at the right bits {:0)
