There could be a better place to put this, but it's always been here in Reaching 50k (probably because that's the best way to get free wordcount - introduce a character, tell us all about them, and them kill them off in a heartbreakingly wordy manner. Come on, admit it, you've done it too).

(And if there already is one, O Great Moderator, please don't kill me. I checked. I promise.)

Killed anyone yet this year? Need to say a few words? Planning to do so in the future? Here's the spot for it!

Read Part 1 here.

My MMC fell in love with the neighbor boy when he was thirteen, and then I sent them off to war, got them captured, and had the enemy aliens torture the boyfriend to death in various gruesome ways before letting the MMC go.

And then he ended up strangling puppies. (Okay, they were EVIL alien puppies who were going to kill millions, but still. Puppies.)

Only two deaths so far, and they were alternate versions characters, so they didn't really matter. Still, I got a 5k rape and double homicide scene, so it was worth something.

Let's see -- the novel started with a massacre on a village - not sure how many died, but Osahar, the priest did. Then, many died on the march to the coast, still more died in the "factory", and there was one suicide aboard the slave ship before the pirates attacked. Naturally, the pirates killed a bunch of people, including everyone who had already come down with smallpox.

All this in the first chapter.

After that, Celeste died in childbirth and there was another battle for the pirates, so some English Navy guys died. I don't think I killed any of the pirates, though, since I didn't know who would replace them.

RIP Maeve and Broca's friends- Sorry. I just needed a reason why Broca would be where he is now. And its not totally my fault, its just history. The Irish War of Independence was no joke.

RIP Random people of Ancient Rome- Again, I needed an event from history for Caius to be where he is. (Story takes place in basically an 'immortal' realm.) It was a plague this time. But don't feel bad about it, you didn't even get any story time, so its not like I did it to be mean.

RIP Emily the Librarian- I'm just about to write this. Basically, I'm starting to worry that some of my characters are too much like me. So you are me. Plus, I have to kill someone off with the Traveling Shovel of Death, so why not you(me)? Besides, its not my fault you ask the villain, who's really close to the royal family, too many questions about the dark magic books he's been looking at lately, after a series of weird events happen. That's just you(me) being ditsy.

My excerpt contains my only death.
It's a bit of a shame that the entire emotions surrounding it are based on a death that happened in September. I wish I wasn't utilising a tragedy, but it has benefited the novel. It is the first of two huge plot events, really.

No death as of yet, but a tornado is coming and I absolutely have my eye on either Don or Charles who run the Ferris Wheel ride. Oh the tragedy of losing someone you've been partnered with for so many decades. I couldn't think of having a novel without a funeral towards its end.

I've just written the death of one bird, and the second is soon to follow (technically, precede, since I'm writing the grand finale before the middle-ish part leading up to it). I've also killed a lot of mice and rats, as a side effect to having some hawks for characters, but they don't really count.

Oh! I just killed a random person! It was part of a dare that I took last week, that I've been building up too.

But their death hasn't even been described yet, and won't be for a while. In fact, I 've spent over 2000 words (and counting) leading up to saying that he is dead! I haven't mentioned it yet! I've just made my MC freaked out and devistated. :)

RIP Choice's Unnamed Mom (Who I Just Now Named Elizabeth). You were a good mom...according to Choice, who may not be the most reliable of narrators anyways. But your kids loved you. Until you got Alzheimer's. Sure, you're not dead yet, but we all know at the end of the book I'm going to need more conflicts, okay? You made for amusing scenes in which your kiddos thought you were dead, and foreshadowing will be your downfall.

By the way, your macaroni and cheese wasn't all that good. Choice is better at making it.

Rest in peace Macon Hackett, Cadence Town Sheriff. You will not be missed as you were a whiny, rambling idiot. But at least you were useful in some capacity--your senseless rants have undoubtedly boosted my wordcount.

Rest in peace Dr. Henry. You WILL be missed, as you were a fabulous informant. Sean even went to your funeral, wasn't that nice?

RIP- Bim. I'm sorry, but your first name is Brunhilde. You are ridiculously cute and fluffy for a soldier of the EVIL dystopian regime. Your death will be off-screen because you're just not that important, but you will be mentioned in an aside or something. Somehow.
RIP- Professor Kline's wife. I don't know how, when or why you died, but I strongly suspect that's something to do with why Professor Kline is willing to kill himself and your sweet little son rather than be taken prisoner by the EVIL dystopian regime. So I assume you met a really horrible end. Poor you. Your son is soo cute. Wish you could've seen him.
RIP- Nicholas Van Der Flue. You're not dead yet, but you will be. Someone who likes explosions as much as you do does not generally have a long life expectancy. And honestly you've been ready to go since your girlfriend died, right?

RIP Your Majesty Isadora, Queen of These United States
Stabbed with a solid platinum poignard to a recording of the Bell Song from Lakmé
Sigh, sorry Dory, I know you were just a harmless, charmingly deluded, middle-aged, semi-homeless woman. You were intelligent and kind, your unique worldviews and your willingness to expound upon them gave me so very much in wordcount. Even the gang member types liked you enough to address you as "Your Majesty" and accept your occasional knightings with a straight face.

But it's a murder mystery, dear, and we need a body. And you were ever so much more interesting than you even seemed, thus providing all sorts of red herrings and just gobs of exposition. And I made sure you didn't suffer at all. Thank you, you will be missed -- and the creep who got you will get theirs!

RIP Jazz's entire tribe
You really should have been more carefull when going out to get food... and now because of one foolish man's mistake, you're all dead.

RIP Woran
You only wanted to protect the girl of your dreams, but why did that girl have to be the main character? Because of your love for her you protecter her on multiple occasions, first getting your arm torn off and then your head. And she didn't even get away...

RIP everyone else
yeah... you're all going to die. This isn't going to be a happy ending.

R.I.P.
Nameless thieves, I really don't know anything about you other than you were created to up my word count, but you died fighting. You should be happy.

R.I.P.
Queen Genevieve Carvosso, I'm really not sorry about killing you off at all. You deserved it.

R.I.P.
The frog, you just were not necessary to the plot at all (plus you were getting in the way of important relationships), so I kind of needed to kill you off.

R.I.P.
The guard, sorry I didn't even give you a name before you died. You were really a good guy.

R.I.P.
Marvin, sorry, but you really weren't necessary to the plot either. At least you got avenged later on.

R.I.P.
Bernard, you were a sweet boy when you were young, but you turned into a stuck up brat, so I had to kill you off.

Although I did write obituaries/letters to the characters that I killed off before the novel even started about a week ago, the characters being Epoch and Elysium DeLancey aka Father Time and Mother Memory, parents of my antagonist (and her sister). I returned the next day to write notes to the three characters I intended to kill in the climax. Well, being as my writer's block has forced me to skip ahead and write the climax out of order of a large portion of the book, two of those characters have just died and a third is very very close to it.

Rise Garafolo
sliced open by her girlfriend's sister with a sickle merely because she was there and the antagonist needed to catch her sister and the protagonist's attention
Rise Garafolo, age 14, was brutally murdered in the world between Earth and DeLancey Street known as the Abyss by one Oblivion DeLancey, usually called Liv. She will be greatly missed by her second period math class, her family and her close friends for whom she always provided a lighthearted encouragement or a laugh. Rise's body has been trapped in the Abyss, and as such, a funeral will not be held for her. Rise is expected to reappear in the epilogue, but for the sake of completely ruining the ending for both herself and any readers, the author does not wish to disclose how or in what state of being.

Eon DeLancey
ribboned by her sister in an epic battle to the death, died of extreme blood loss and organ failure due to a pair of sickle wounds delivered to the gut and chest
Eon DeLancey, goddess of time, has recently been killed by her sister, Oblivion, in a desperate attempt to claim revenge for her sister's insults and desecration of her girlfriend, Rise Garafolo, in both memory and body. The author would like to call for a moment of silence for the tragic and stunningly written death and life of this particular character before stating that Eon will be reappearing in the epilogue and possibly before that. Naturally, this death is only a death of Eon's demi god body, not her soul, as she is a god. The author does not want to disclose any more vital information at this juncture.

Oblivion "Liv" DeLancey
died of blood loss and shock caused by multiple knife and rapier wounds inflicted in two separate battles with both her sister and the protagonist, Owen Belmont
There will be no period of morning for Oblivion "Liv" DeLancey, sadist until the end, who was killed by the protagonist, Owen Belmont, in conjunction with wounds inflicted by her sister, Eon DeLancey, in the climactic battle scene taking place within the Abyss. Liv died painfully and slowly after going completely insane and murdering both Rise Garafolo, beloved comic relief, and Eon DeLancey, her sister, rather brutally. If she wasn't a goddess and had actually died, she would still not be missed. The author would like to say that Liv will be placed in chains and put away as soon as her true being returns to DeLancey Street, so you needn't worry. She will be undergoing treatment and jailtime for her behaviors. She may eventually recover. But probably not.

So! That's it! And I've now written an obituary or a letter to character to all of the characters who get it in my novel or just before it starts. Unless I end up killing off the protagonist's science teacher, Mr. Garland (which, coincidentally, is the name of MY science teacher...), with a heart attack.

I am an evil, evil person... Especially to Jade... The rest of my characters mostly suffered mentally.

RIP Jade Elisabeth Zimmerman.

I'm sorry I never even knew you existed before chapter sixteen. I learned about your existence at the same time I learned of your suicide. I am so sorry I had to let the source of all local evil (also known as Lucas) get to you with all his friends for rape and blackmail. You have been quite helpful in getting your twin sister to open up and do some very dirty things to one of my protagonists, so for that I thank you. You made an interesting character even more interesting, and for that I thank you.

RIP Damian's parents

I'm sorry I do not even know your names. You died years before my book started. Damian is in a good home with his aunt and uncle and his bratty cousin, and he is doing well. He still misses you guys though. Your death was totally necessary to create the cousin dynamic between Selene and Damian.

RIP Shuana
Wow, that sucks. Killed viciously by your psychotic rival. At least you died relatively quickly. Don't worry, even though I didn't get around to it (coughimayyetcough), you and your beloved meet in heaven (or wherever these people go). So though at the moment it looks like you came out with the short end of the stick, well ... let me put it this way: I don't think Sao Yoan Suso will be going to the same place as you and Ei Ro Shet.

RIP Ei Ro Shet
Except for the years leading up to your crowning-age birthday, your life sucked. I'm sorry. Some of it you brought on yourself, but that's the way it goes. Make one little mistake and sometimes it comes back to bite you where it really hurts. Good on you for offing Sao Yoan Suso, a.k.a. Barking Mad Former Mermaid Girl. Bad on you for offing yourself just afterwards (didn't your people need you?), but I won't shovel on the guilt too much. I know you were going through a lot. Don't worry too much, though: Shuana's waiting for you in the light at the other end of the tunnel.

RIT Sao Yoan Suso
Oh, you say you don't know what RIT stands for? It stands for Rest In Torment, you sea witch. I don't know where you got the idea that going postal was allowed, but -- guess what? I wasn't happy about that. You were a scary mermaid-turned-human and you got what you deserved. Strangled to death by your "beloved", ha! Take that!

RIP underground people except for repetitive man
Sorry about that. I knew Sao Yoan Suso was going to go postal, but I didn't realize that she would go that postal. Still, she killed you all quickly, so you got off better than poor Shuana. Sorry also that you were left unburied. You were/will be mourned.

RIP repetitive man
Let this be a lesson to you to keep your mouth shut more often. Still, you didn't know Sao Yoan Suso was going to go bananas, so don't blame yourself for anyone's death but your own.

You were awesome, despite having odd characterisation issues. You were smart and fun to write, and you spun everywhere. I'm sorry I had you murdered by that weird guy who wanted to marry you for your money. He'll get what's coming to him.
