Okay, so I need my MC to go to a rock/heavy metal concert and have a complete breakdown (for very complicated reasons). Basically, I'm in search of metal bands that would have toured across the U.S. anytime from 2000 to 2005 or so, especially bands that were really popular with teenage boys. My MC freaks out at very intense/loud/violent music, so I was listening to samples from bands like Linkin Park, but some of their songs didn't seem metal-y enough. Any suggestions?

And I forgot to add, if you can name a specific song by a band (so I could go look up lyrics) that would be a good one for him to freak out at, that would be awesome!

How about System of a Down? they're loud and have sorta freaky lyrics. Try going to YouTube and checking out BYOB. That was the first song I heard by them.

Slipknot might be another.

I'm 44 and was a metalhead in the 80's so I haven't changed much. LOL

Echoing the Slipknot suggestion. Slipknot fans were very loyal and very committed, and could be pretty terrifying in large numbers due to how into the music they got.
You'll probably find metal or hardcore bands more appropriate than grungey ones. Try looking up the setlists for Ozzfest during the time period you need; you'll find loads of bands that fit your criteria. Any of these bands on the second stage 2002 would suit- Hatebreed, meshuggah, Glassjaw
Or try Cradle of Filth, Killswitch Engage, Chimaira, Sworn Enemy from 2003.

My best friend and I looked around iTunes today and I was leaning toward System of a Down after listening to samples of their music. I think I'll go with them. Thanks!

Cool. I've got my characters in a club at an Incantation show in Chicago right now. Rock on, sister!
