The following writing groups meet throughout the year and invite you to join them for writing and camaraderie. If you know of a group that's open to new members, let me know and I'll post it here.

Times, dates, and places may change over time. To avoid disappointment (and learn how to locate the group), check with the contact person before heading out to your first meeting.

Mondays with the Austin Java Writing Company
The Austin Java Company Writing Company invites you to join them every Monday at the AJC on Parkway. It's $3 wine night! AJWC is a friendly social group that formed after NaNoWriMo 2005. They meet primarily for write-ins and moral support. Contest entry is encouraged and critiques are available. Please note that writers may discuss adult content in this group.
Time: 7:30 pm – 11:00 pm
Location: Austin Java Company, 1206 Parkway (Parkway angles off from Lamar north of 12th Street, between Castle Hill St. and Shoal Creek Blvd.)

Various days and locations
I just found Austin Writers on meetup.com, so can only tell you what their blurb says. Please let me know if you attend this group and would recommend it to others.
Austin Writers is a meant as a source of positive reinforcement and community for writers of all kinds in the Austin area. During a regular month, we have 2 meetups; a mid-month Write-In, where we come ready to simply be in one place and write in the company of others; and an end of the month Sharing & Discussion, where people bring examples of their current writing for sharing and to spark discussion.
The goal is simply to help foster a community of writers in Austin, and provide continuity to keep us writing as we go through daily life. It is not a heavy-duty workshop type thing. Absolutely all writing styles and approaches are welcomed; fiction, non-fiction, journaling, experimental.
Requested Donation to cover fees: About $2 per Meetup. Thanks for helping us thrive!

Hello. My name is Wil and I just got here from Michigan. I was checking both employment and writing groups. I belonged to a simple one back in East Lansing. I know nothing of Austin so I would like to see when and where to meet these groups. Thanks.

Welcome, Wil!
I used to live in East Lansing too, long time ago.
Just pick a group (or groups) and use the contact information to get details from the group leader.
Hope you find something that fits.
