Today's Guest: Jen Arzt, Script Frenzy Program Director

Posted by: Lindsey Grant on 12/15/2008

Q: Jen, Script Frenzy is a mere four months away! What is the very most exciting thing on the ticket-littered, scene-strewn Script Frenzy horizon? Do you already have an idea for your screenplay?
A: It is hard to pick just one most exciting thing! I am looking forward to all the "scenes" that Script Frenzy has to offer!

I think it is always exciting to read the Cameos. (In a Cameo, experts share the battle stories and triumphs of their script writing process with the Frenzy participants.)

One of the many great things about Script Frenzy and NaNoWriMo is writing with the knowledge that others around the world are writing their hearts out at the same time you are. The deadline coupled with that team of motivated writers is such a powerful formula.

But even with that great combination, sometimes we get stumped. For many people Script Frenzy will be their first attempt at writing in a script format. It can at first seem difficult—or somehow harder—than prose. But it is really nothing more than telling a story with a different tool. The Cameos remind participants of that and help keep us all going!

This year, we plan to have more Cameos from experts in the field available on the website before April. This way, writers (novice and expert alike!) can prepare for April with a professional by their proverbial side. And then, we’ll also get a booster shot of uplifting energy from the experts during the Frenzy as we all hurtle toward the finish line.

As cool as all those Cameos are, I have to admit that the part of the Frenzy I am most looking forward to working on is the Plot Machine. It is so much fun coming up with teeny tiny blurbs that seem to magically sew themselves together into a mostly believable, utterly ridiculous plot! If I could do nothing but write those for a month, I think I would.

I don’t have my 2009 script idea worked out yet. Maybe I’ll have to give the Plot Machine a whirl… it can’t steer me wrong, right?

I am excited for the 2009 Script Frenzy! We have a few big changes brewing away in the Script Frenzy factory that I can’t reveal quite yet. So, be sure to stop by www.scriptfrenzy.org to check out some of the favorites from last year and some new and shiny changes.

Jennifer Arzt is the Program Director of Script Frenzy, a month-long script writing event that takes place in April. She’s a filmmaker and writer some of the time, and a troublemaker the rest of the time.
