I know, I know... it sucks. Unfortunately, when threads get so large, they start to cause database problems... and as we discovered painfully in September, they actually can cause the site to crash! The way Drupal indexes threads means that the more topics there are, the longer it takes to load them, and they can actually overload the servers.
So, as a way to combat this, we're going to have to close the threads.
You are still welcome to continue posting on a new thread, but particularly large threads will be closed at that point.
