We've gathered a few stickies, so I figure it's a good idea to go ahead and consolidate these into a single post.
For the most part, we're going to assume you're adults here, so that we don't need to hand-hold you through everything. This is not an all-ages forum.
- No explicit sexual content permitted - as per the Terms and Conditions, we can't have sexual content anywhere on the site. Referring to it is fine, it may not be described. While this is not an all-ages forum, and therefore you don't have to watch your language, we must remind you that explicit content is best kept elsewhere; If you'd like to continue something, please take it off of the forums.
Please fade to black before any sex occurs; even using non-explicit words is out of bounds.
ALL posts must abide by our Terms and Conditions and Codes of Conduct. Please report violations using the "report" button at the bottom of the offending post/comment. All reports are private, and viewable only by staff.
- Do not attempt to exclude other posters. This is a public forum, and if you're after a private conversation or roleplay with only certain other people, then I suggest finding a more private forum for your needs. With that said, posts intended to disrupt the flow of a roleplay may be reported to the moderators (trolling isn't permitted.)
This does not guarantee you the right to be responded to.
- Respect your fellow roleplayers/writers. It's not polite to take control of someone else's character without their permission. If they have posted guidelines for their roleplay threads, please respect them. If you don't like their guidelines... start a thread of your own! There is no limit to how many you may start, participate in, or whatever. Please note, that moderators will not be responsible for making sure people stick to the rules of individual threads. That's up to you.
Ask before jumping into an established roleplay. Some of these storylines have been going on for a long time, and it's rude to just jump in without asking, because you may disrupt a plot. The best way to do this is either find the chat thread, or PM someone who is actively participating in the thread. Just because someone can't be deliberately excluded doesn't mean that it's polite to just jump in willy nilly. I think you'll find that the majority of people here are welcoming, and love fresh blood. They just want to work you in. :)
- Only roleplays or shared worlds may be posted here, or their corresponding chat threads. Other threads should go to a more appropriate forum.
Do not advertise for other websites here. We have the marketing and self promotion forum for that.
- Posts with more than 500 posts will be locked. This is to insure site stability. You are welcome to create a new thread to continue, and I recommend that you include a link to the previous thread(s) so that you can easily read back.
These locked threads will not be deleted until the Big Site Wipe prior to each NaNo season, so if you want to keep archives of these, you are responsible for doing so yourself. We won't be responsible for any content lost, or be able to guarantee you access to it those archives, since they are often shut down for site performance reasons.
Some requests from your friendly neighborhood moderating staff:
Try and restart threads yourself once they hit 500 comments. We close topics manually, and when a topic continues to grow, it makes the site load slower. (Last season, threads in the roleplaying/games forum were actually responsible for several site crashes.) Just keep an eye on the total comment count, and start a new thread when it goes over 500. You've been doing great with this, and we appreciate it.
Also, limit your location in your profile to 64 characters or less. This is really meant to show your personal location, but is often used by folks as a status line - locations of over 64 characters will be removed. (We'll ask you privately to do it yourself, but if you don't, we'll just truncate it ourselves.)

Internet Troll
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

Also germane to this role-playing forum, another sense of "trolling" refers to the practice of searching for cyber-partners in an on-line discussion group. It's an older usage, from the days BI (Before Internet) when this sort of thing happened on "BBS Systems." Trolling in this sense is more related to trolling for fish than it is to acting like a troll.

Trolls are people who go around looking for ways to piss others off. They range from general annoying comments to people that will go so far as to take it off the internet and start prank calling your house (not kidding here, it's happened to friends of mine, this is why you never, EVER put your personal info on the web). Just don't feed them and they usually go away.
