Dear Adelaideans,

I regret to inform you that in 29 days, 8 hours 23 minutes and 37 seconds, all sanity will cease to exist. Over 100,000 people worldwide are going to take the plunge from dreamer to novelist. Some may never recover.

I’m hoping none of you do.

:)

WELCOME TO NANOWRIMO 2009! Where sanity is left at the door, real life ceases to exist, and the voices inside your head become your best friends.

I’m going to be honest. You’re crazy for doing this. But you’re also crazy if you don’t! Either way, you’re stuck. Here. With us. So you might as well make the best of it and introduce yourselves! Don’t be shy – there’s no point. Whether you’ve been here before or you’re just starting out, we love you already! Make new friends, reaquaint yourselves with old ones; by the end of the next two months we’re all going to be one crazy family anyway…

See you at the finish line!

Hi!

I’m Mel and I’m the other half of the AWESOME ML duo for Adelaide! (if I do say so myself, and I do)

I’m a current uni student studying psychology and religion studies and I can’t wait for my last semester to be over. I have many more things I can think of to do just when an assignment is due. Stina said that’s procrastination. I say it’s an awesome way to plan a nano! Well, it would be an awesome way to plan if I had a plot!

This year I want to return to some serious sci-fi or fantasy after last year’s attempt with romance. It’s nice and all but I think the smoochies should be there to patch my plot holes like human duct tape and not to be the plot... Cause what else would I have to fill in the gaps?

I can’t wait for the write-ins when I can reacquaint myself with my sugar addiction and blind you all with my ML shirt. Truly, if you come away without a sun glare you’re doing alright! ;) Every year I start to wonder if I’ll still love nanowrimo as much as I did the year previously and I keep finding that yes I do still love nano. More. Every. Year.

I can’t wait for November to start!

Hey everyone.

I'm Cate... well Caitlin (not Katie...)

Anyway... this is only my second NaNo and last year i only made it to the one write-in... the first one. Definitely aiming for more this year even despite the assignments and exams. :) Definitely totally crazy... but who actually needs sanity?

I'm kinda, sorta a little planned... my characters have first names. But i'm definitely gonna be trying out fantasy this year... for the first time. It's gonna have a YA twist though.

I'm also studying psych (sociology too).

I'm also with Mel on the major smoochies... i don't think i've ever written anything without smoochies... hmm... but i normally rely on really detailed smutty sex scenes to fill up my plot gaps... what? It's fun!

Well i'll see you guys around, i'll be the one with the laptop and the stressed look... and lots of sugar... so good luck recognising me since that'll be all of us ;)

Yay, the 2009 board is up!

Anyway, I'm Ruth. I'm 17, and currently in year 12, which means I'll be tackling my exams during nano, but I'll manage! This is my second year, after I won last year. I've got a plot, and have been playing around with fleshing it out a bit, instead of doing homework. What was that about procrastination? I've also ordered two nano t-shirts this year, which my mum is officially getting me for my birthday, however that is not until the middle of November, so I'm getting them before then!

Looking forward to the craziness that is November!

Good morning.

I'm Jim. I'm no longer a uni student (which somehow hurts me every time I realise that I'm supposed to be a grown up now). I'm a teacher. (Keanu-ish "Whoa".)

I haven't written anything creative all year. Which is lame. But on the bright side, I have a really good, clear idea about where my Nano will go this year.

Also, I can now afford a near-constant stream of sugary goodness, so the words should flow better this year.

(Can I fit any more parentheses in here? (Am I allowed to nest them? (Or ask myself rhetorical questions? (Is it worse if I ask myself questions that _aren't_ rhetorical?))))

Hey guys! If the username doesn't already give it away, I'm Christina, one of the MLs for the Adelaide region. You may call me Stina. Everyone does, even people I've never met before. I would find this creepy if it wasn't such a regular occurance!

I'm 20, studying at Flinders Uni, and working at Myer. This will be the first time I'll be studying AND working while tackling NaNo, so I don't think my sanity will be anywhere near intact by Nov 30. Come to think of it, my sanity has never actually been intact (maybe when I was 5...?) so perhaps I'm safe after all. Lol, "safe". Maybe not so much for you guys... If you ever see me holding a tub of glitter, RUN.

No idea what I'm writing yet. I had a plot and ditched it after realising my best plots were the ones I came up with 2 weeks before the starting date. Who needs to thoroughly plan when you can just wing it, right? Shhh, no one remind me about how much I freak out when I don't plan...

Apart from that, my life revolves around my puppy, Tilly, and my books. And my tv. Maybe friends if they're lucky ;) My best friend calls me lovely. It's true, honestly!

Anyhow, if you have any queries, problems, or just feel like talking, you know where to PM me :) I'm also good for sugar-induced word wars at midnight! (Or sugar induced anything, for that matter.)

Can't wait for some familiar AND new faces to pop up soon :)
- Stina

okay, I'm fairly sure that I've never actually posted in this thread before, despite this being my fourth year in Nano, so I figured I would at least make an attempt to be social this year. I'm GreenSkeleton, as you can probably already see, and I live 400kms from Adelaide so if I make it to an event, be surprised.

this year I've managed to convince my fiance to have a go at NaNo with me, although I question just how seriously she is going to take the challenge. Anyway, she will hopefully post in here soon too, then you can know the both of us.

Hi everyone. I'm Denise, and my partner Helen (Chooky) and I have been Nano-ing for the last three years.

I'm a superannuation lawyer at the Tax Office by day, and a slightly crazy Roller Derby girl by night. For me, November plans so far include writing my brains out, skating skills tests, turning yet another year older and having a kickass boozy kids' style party, one and possibly two trips to Melbourne (depending on whether or not the second one either coincides with the first or ends up at the end of October) and potentially trying to juggle visits from a couple of friends living interstate or overseas. Hoping I'm not going to end up shaking and crying in the corner on November 30...

I swore to myself that I wouldn't kill off any characters in my novel this year. In 2006 I killed a couple of blackmailers who nobody liked anyway, in 2007 I killed two main characters and two supporting in quite a sad way, then in 2008 I killed... erm... the whole world. Thought the only way to beat that was to not kill off any characters at all, but my plot idea unfortunately requires it again. Only one this time though, I promise. Well, maybe two...

Will be good to meet you all / see you all again (mentally delete whichever is not applicable...)

I'm Chooky aka Helen, and I'm beyond the point of giving out my age now.
I'm a computer tech working for the Australian Government Solicitors. (well I finish up my current job next week and start this one on the 12th of October).
I work in the city pretty much 9-5. So I'm all for evening and weekend write-ins, and I'm sure there will be a few of us meeting up after work at one of the Cibo Cafe's with laptops for some writing time. Melbourne st was good for that last year.
I still have my old laptop, probably with a flat battery as I haven't used it since last year. It's solid, it was free, it has enough power to let me write, and it's got a long power cord! What more do you need in a laptop?
This year I'm planning on re-writing a story I wrote a few years ago and never got finished. I've been taking plot notes on what I already have and then locking the old novel away for November. No cheating or copying.

And some professional advice for all (since I also hang around in the Nano Tech forum) BACK UP YOUR NANO STORY. The amount of people who have one copy on their computer and the computer dies, the laptop gets dropped, lost or stolen, younger siblings put a virus on the computer, or the novel file gets corrupted and then have to start over is saddening. Make backing up your story part of your nightly routine. Wash off your make up, comb your hair, brush your teeth, copy your nano story to a USB drive or CD and place that back-up in a secure place away from your computer. Go buy a 1GB USB drive from Office Works now, they are stupidly cheap, I think a beer costs more. Backup and wear your Nano Novel around your neck.

*waves*

I think I posted a hello on another thread a couple of days ago, but then I came back and everything had gone, so I'll go again. XD Anyways . . .

Hi, I'm Emily and this is my first ever Nano!! To say I am excited is an understatement. I'm 18, and a first year Education (Early Childhood)/Arts student at Flinders Uni, with a minor in English (and a major in Digital Media Studies). I don't have any exams (which I am so happy about), so if I can get all my coursework done by the end of October, I'll be free for NaNo-ing in November!! I work casually in a retirement village as a kitchen hand, and besides work and Uni, I'm addicted to the internet, reading and television. I'm usually always online when I'm at home, so I'm always around.

I have a rough idea of what I'm writing for Nano, but I like writing on the fly so I'll probably just go with the flow and see what happens. *g* Who knows what I'll come up with; well, hopefully it'll be half-way decent story. :D

Anyways, that's me and I hope to get to know you guys better as Nano commences!!

Hi I'm Cate (also known as Caitlin, but I normally only get called that at work or when I'm in TROUBLE!) I am a 21 year old university student, and I work almost fulltime for a jeweller. This is my second year of fulltime work, uni and NaNo, so I'm hoping I'm a little more organised this year (seeing as I failed miserably last year). I have an awesome plot in mind, though, and so I'm super excited. This is my fourth NaNo, so I'm an old hat.

I'm studying Computer Science/Media Arts at UniSA and it's my second to last year. I am really looking forward to finishing and just working because I am so tired of having no time! I'm still not completely sure of what I want to do when I finish, though.

Anyway, I'm not sure of what to write and my finger is starting to hurt from typing (plus it's super slow typing on an iPhone!) so I think I should stop. I can't wait to see the old faces and meet the new at the Kick Off!

Hi, I'm Bridget or, really, whatever you want to call me is fine. I'm 16 and currently doing year eleven and NaNo just happens to fall at the exact same as my exams so my word-count filler will probably be my characters reciting facts about biology and whatnot. Currently employed at Coles in the meat room XD

This is my second year of NaNoing. Last year I won but what I wrote barely counted as a novel. Hoping that this November will end with a first draft I can bare to look at with as little filler as possible.

Hi guys! I'm Colette, I'm 15 (16 on the 26th of October, Yay!) and I'm in yr 10.

Back again for my second year of writing insanity :) But while I love it, my friends... not so much. NaNo is basically just a time when I drive them to the point of insanity with talk of characters, plot bunnies/plot ninja's and the crazy things that happen in my novel that are totally not planned. Oh, I should probably include here the highly interesting conversations that me and my characters have in my head... lol

So anyway... off to write more stuff about my slightly OCD Law Student and My calm and relaxed in personality Photography student who owns a Big Red Motorbike...

Hi, I'm JoBeth - real name Kathy. JoBeth comes from 2 characters in Little Women - Jo who I am very like and Beth who I wish I was like because it would make life so much simpler (but then maybe it wouldn't be so interesting). My three daughters did Nano last year and had a ball. We ended the month with a cake with the caption "Editing is for December". This year they're all returning and have persuaded me to get involved too. I've sort of got an idea for a plot - not too sure how it's all going to pan out. But hey, what's the point if everything in life is too cut-and-dried. In the words of my all-time fav singer, Bruce Cockburn "the best roads of all are the ones that aren't certain. One of those is where you'll find me til they drop the big curtain".

Roll on November and happy novelling friends.

Hello all! I'm Chloe, I'm 15 and haven't done any writing this year that wasn't for school (thankfully that will change come November).

I'm currently studying year 10 via a correspondance school so if I manage my time well enough I should be able to find time to write everyday without too many problems (well, that's the theory...). I would be way more confident about NaNo if I had ANY ideas for a story - I don't want to do what I did last year where I just wrote the first thing that came (and ended up killing off a large amount of characters in the process).

I am really looking forward to NaNo and I am hoping that I will win (unlike last year when I only wrote 23,000 words or so).

Salutations, all.

Name's Scott (the sobriquet? Don't ask. (Yes, sobriquet is the first word that popped into my head)). 2/3rd year engineering student at Flinders U (been there three years, mostly doing second year topics), mangler of musical utensils, procrastinator and timewaster extraordinaire. Lover of all humankind's noble works, be they literary, cinematic or sonical. Uncommonly laboured smith of words.

Not being by nature a verbal thinker, nano is a bit of a challenge for me. Failed epicly last year, but still hopeful for this time around. Hopefully I'll learn something about the out-banging of verbiage.

Looking forward to seeing the lovely faces of you all (except for Jim's. I mean, ouch).

Scott, I know by lovely faces, you were referring to me. Right? :P

Random thought, but today I was thinking about Flinders (I know, it's a weird concept) and how it should be shortened to FlUni. And then I thought about how embarrassing it would be if everyone referred to it as Fluni. It'd be worse than UniSA being nicknamed SuperTafe <_<

... The point of all that is I think we should start calling it Fluni, and see if it catches on.

Just do it, ok?

ALL OF YOU. (And welcome, everyone!)

Hi, Faizah here, again. My name is actually Frances, but even my family call me Faizah now, so that might as well be how I introduce myself. I've been doing this crazy thing since 2004, but 2008 was my first win, with a lovely little time travel story that really needs expanding upon. Here's hoping to make it a streak, and possibly a sequel.

I was scarce at meet-ups and write-ins last year, and I will be again this year, as it's not as easy to get into town from my 'new' place. (New as of August 2008, hence last year's scarceness)

I... can't think of anything else to say. If I had a plot, I'd talk about that, but, I don't.

Why am I doing this again? Why do I ever do this?

...

Looking forward to November!

EDIT: Oh! It just hit me as I picked up my knitting. New thing: I knit now. Exciting, I know.

I foresee a lot of knitting this month, as it tends to calm me down when I get all antsy and excited. I'll soon have a finished Doctor Who scarf, over half of which I am allergic to, but I'm too stubborn not to finish the blasted thing anyway. After NaNoWriMo I plan to knit a second, in yarn I can actually stand.

Please, no. It just makes me think of work, and work means H1N1.

Hi all, I'm Wrazn, and used to live in Adelaide. In fact, I still have Adelaide as my home region for Nano, given that Adelaide was the first place I actually went and met up with (gulp) real people in real life. *runs screaming into the night.*

You will not see me at any write-ups or meet-ups anymore, as I live (quick google) 16,921 km away now. :(

This will be my 9th Nano, and hopefully a 2nd win, but I'm not optimistic about that given the nature of my work and lack of any type of time for anything outside of work, food, and sleep. Although, I bet if I gave up all my knitting time I would actually get some writing done. (Yeah right, stay away from my knitting needles!) I'm a trainee medical professional in Ottawa now, from Vancouver originally, but did medical school at Flinders Uni (don't call it flu-knee, really, please Stina).

squee, hi everyone! I forgot that Nano resets itself in October, so this is hugely exciting for me. :)
I'll tell you my real name when we meet up, but I'm "Nyandra" on the forums. I'm 24 and studying to be a teacher. In fact I think I'm on prac for part of November, so this could be rather interesting. I don't know to what extent I'll be able to write, but at least I have a laptop that doesn't weigh 10 kgs now so won't be in horrible pain from going to write ins. I'm also much less stressed this year though I have more assignments. :)
I like writing sci fi and fantasy, though at the moment all I write is lesson plans, literature reviews and essays.

Hellooo!

I'm Danjanon, but everyone calls me Dan or Daniel. Which makes sense, since Daniel is on my birth certificate and all. I'm sorry if I don't remember names, ages and anything else about you. I was only half listening you see, Ray Charles keeps distracting me. You know when you're a legend when you can distract someone you've never met even though you're blind and dead. I tend to be the kind of person who's either a blatherer or silent, completely lost in my own head.

Anywho, it seems you either have to be witty or at least detailed in your introductory post and I wish to do neither. Let's all assume that I taught at least 3 people on here their witty repartee. I pick that Luggage guy, you can pick the other two.

Besides the constant badgering from people like Miss Mell and the incredibly handsome Jim, the reason I'm doing NaNo this year is because I've been trying to write a novel anyway and I thought this'd help me actually get some words down. Procrastination leads to me doing more and more research and little to no actual typing on my first draft.

Hi all! *waves*

My name is Jessica and I am nineteen, I am doing Writing and Creative Communication at UniSA. This is my second year doing NaNo and I hope for this to be my second win as well. This year, unlike last year, I have a plot already in mind, instead of signing up the day before NaNo starts and not knowing what I was gonna write... I think I finished last year only just, hurrying to write like 16k words on the last day and wow was that hard, I also had exams to be studying for then (year 12) so I was distracted. This year however I should be finished uni and done with all my assignments for the semester so I can write all November. I never got to go to any meets last year but I hope I can go to some this year, it'll be great to meet you all in person!

Um... that's all I think... it's 12:53AM so I think I'll go to bed now.
