So Historical Fiction is really boring to tell you the truth, but I support all of you who will try and write some anyway. Gotta keep it in the family and junk like that.

Well, I sort of agree, that historical fiction is boring, but perhaps that shouldn't be said of all historical fiction. I'll bet some stuff about the Salem witch trials is pretty groovy. Hell, anyone that does their best to make a dry subject interesting gets major props in my book, even if they don't succeed!

Just trying to encourage some posts on this board. Because the board will be as dry as Salem if we don't dirtyenize it up.

As I recall, it was a pretty active area before the scrub. I really don't think it needs content-free posts to liven it up now.

Um... Why bother saying that historical novels are boring on the forum for historical novels? If you think they're boring, don't read them. I'm guessing you never really have anyway.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there are going to be more fans of historical fiction in this forum than non-fans. It's called the historical fiction board anyway. You're outnumbered by people who obviously enjoy writing historical fiction.

*frowns* What are you talking about??? Historical novels are AWESOME!!! For one, we put much more time into them in research alone than some people do in other genres (except maybe sci-fi, as I've come to realize... [I'm doing a sci-fi novel under another username *stresses*])

Well, not all HF books are boring. Some of them can be, but who says you have to read those ones?

Eh--there are trolls everywhere, including the NaNo forums. I'd suggest we let this silly thread die and sink to the bottom of the page.

Historical fiction is amazing. Read 'Slammerkin' by Emma Donahue, it's brilliant.

I pretty much only read historical fiction. And like any other genre, there are some books that are really boring. But I'm a picky reader so I don't finish half the books I start anyway.

Historical fiction can become boring really easily if the author goes too detailed on ridiculous little things. Then again that's the same with fantasy--author does too much worldbuilding and it takes away from the story.

It takes a little more effort to write a historical because of the research involved. Can't have someone in colonial times saying "What up" or anything modern like that. It can get frustrating as a writer but I love history anyway so it's not an issue for me! I can't imagine writing anything set in a modern setting anymore...

Hey guys; let me remind you of the Codes of Conduct:

Do ignore cheaters and trolls

Every year, we get dozens of posts accusing others of cheating at NaNoWriMo. Please—don't worry about cheaters. NaNoWriMo is an honor-system challenge; no one is cheating anyone but themselves if they don't write the novel they said they wrote.

If you see a post that you suspect is a troll (i.e. someone posting something deliberately inflammatory just to get a rise out of people), please do not engage them. Just let it go, they'll move along without any feedback.

Every genre needs a Debate Post for those who need to be poked and prodded into action.

Unless I'm told I'm wrong, mistaken, or challenged, I have a tendency to doze off even with the best of books. I have ADHD really bad some days!

When someone dislikes what you like, you should not consider this to be a problem. You should consider this a chance to give a responsible rebuttal.

Why should I read Historical Fiction? Better yet, why should I write it?
I am extremely undecided about what to write, but I love history. How do I know when a topic or a subplot will keep me hooked enough to write it into a sizable chapter?
What ways are there to keep me interested even when there are all sorts of shiny attractions all around me? Like cell phones, plastic wrap, the Sun, eggs over easy (if you don't overcook the yoke!).....

............ any thoughts anybody?
