Hello one and all,
Welcome to this year's presentation of Nanowrimo. I'm Lottie, and I'm one of your MLs for Cambridge and the surrounding area.
If you've done Nanowrimo before, welcome back, it's great to see you. If you're a complete newbie, where have you been? :-) Come in, grab a beer/coffee/soft drink of your choice and settle into one of the comfy chairs whilst we wait for the madness to begin.
We've got lots of meets already planned for November although most of them haven't actually appeared on the calendar yet. Sniglet (my co-ML) tends to organise meet type things whilst I tend to look after the forums. At the moment, she's very busy preparing for exams in mid-October so it might take a little while for her to get around to it. :-o
There will, of course, be a Kick Off party, on the evening of the 31st October, though if we have a significant number of 13-18 years olds this year, we may have an afternoon one as well - we don't want anyone to feel left out. You will be encouraged to come dressed as a character from your novel (although this is not compulsory) so start thinking about costumes now.
We do have three meets arranged for October, the first of which is a Write-In at CB2 tomorrow morning. Please check the regional calendar for all the details of this meet and any others which we'll arrange throughout Oct/Nov and beyond. You'll find a link to it in the regions header. There will probably be a couple of planning meets so that you can start to make notes about your characters and plot (something which can prove very useful if you should encounter Writer's Block at any point), but we'll discuss that in a different thread.
There are a couple of things I need to remind people of:
1. This is an All-Ages forum, so please do not post anything which is sexually explicit or contains excessive bad language (sniglet and I have to determine what constitutes 'excessive' in this case, we expect teenagers to be able to handle a certain amount of swearing). If you wish to post anything which violates these rules please do not post the text (or images) here, but instead post a link and explicitly state that the link points to something which is Adult-Only and NSFW (very important to know for some of us! :-o )
2. If you have a problem with anyone else on the site, please PM me or sniglet and we'll get it sorted out. We've never actually had a problem with anyone in Cambridge, but if you do start to feel harrassed please let one of us know, we're here to help.
3. Nanowrimo is a non-profit organisation and runs solely on the generosity of its participants. If you feel that you can afford to make a contribution, please do so, even $5 will help (and at present exchange rates equates to less than the cost of a pint of beer). Sniglet and I do not receive anything from Nano HQ apart from the disgusting t-shirts which you'll see at the meets if you've never done nano before, and the stickers which we will give out to anyone who comes along to a meet, so please remember we're volunteers too.
Wow, that got a bit serious for a minute there, didn't it? Right, time to put that right, I'm going to start things rolling with an Introductions thread, hope to see you over there. :-)
