Hi all, and welcome to another year of November novelling with NI NoWriMo.

I'm back as your Municipal Liaison, and I'm lucky enough this year to finally have a co-ML: Bruce aka speculator, who anyone who's been to Belfast meetings in the past will probably know.

We've got a lot of things lined up for this year, so keep an eye on the events calendar (you can also see it here in its full glory). And remember, if you want to organise something local to you, please do - just let your MLs know so we can add it to the calendar.

So... who's here? Who's new? Who's back again for another year, aiming to reach 50k for the first, or second, or umpteenth time? Introduce yourself!

Hi again everyone, back for another round of madness!

Hopefully this will be my second year to make 50k - there was no hope for me in 2006, but in 2007 I completely forgot about Nano (sacrilege, I know) and only started halfway through. I think I got about... 10k words? It was low, anyway. Sorry, Ulster!

At least there's no chance of that happening again short of something catastrophic. I've been positively pining for Nano ever since the end of the last one. ;)

I won't be able to make any of the meetings, I don't think; I'm too young to drive up to Belfast myself and there's no way my parents would take me. (They won't even take me to a book signing by George RR Martin, who is one of my all time favourite authors and in Belfast on the third ... *insert angsty teenager hissy fit here* )

Ahem. Anyway. It's a shame, because it looks like we've got a nice lineup of events this year. Best of luck and much fun to everyone going, I'll be there with you in spirit :)

And if there's anyone else writing from Tyrone, perhaps we can get an event down here this year?

Anyhow, can't wait to get started!
Much love to everyone

Hi again ! The Frenchie is back !! :D

I thought 2008 would have been my last NaNoWriMo in Derry - I thought even I wouldn't make it for 2009. My studies at the Tech are over and I am now looking for a different job somewhere else in Europe but the search hasn't been successful so far and so, I'm still here ! And ready for another round of noveling madness !

Last year, I have been able to exceed the 50k target despite a part-time job and a full-time course at the NWRC/Tech. This time, I have only the part-time job (without a few more working hours though) and there's no excuse for me to fail. I think I can even set the target higher - how about 70k ?

I like the site's new layout - it's easier to keep abreast of the events (thanks for putting up the logo, Farfalla - it's nice to see it here :)). I can make the thursday meetings at Belfast (well, as long as I have enough money for the bus) but I'll miss the write-ins as I work on monday afternoons. How about the write-ins in Derry ?

Look forward to the 1st november - I know it's a sunday but I'll be working on that day and I won't be able to start before 6PM !! >.<

All the best to everyone,
Larys

Hi guys, great to see you two back!

Ala, I'm sulking about the George R R Martin thing myself, as a) it's unlikely I'll be in Belfast that day, and b) I'd be working anyway and wouldn't be able to take much time to go. :(
As for something in Tyrone... well, I'm Tyrone-based myself, so we'll have to see if we can rustle up a few more people down our way and maybe meet up one weekend in Cookstown or Omagh or somewhere central-ish?

Larys, we'll definitely be doing Derry meetings again, though as usual the day depends on when people can make it. And if you're coming to the Belfast Thursday ones, I may be able to give you a lift back afterwards.
{Alas, the logo's already gone from the page though - apparently I edited something I shouldn't have been able to, to add it. :( And things have been fixed since. I'll see if I can squash the smaller one into the Notes from MLs box.)

Well I'm back for another attempt at Carpal Tunnel.

Apart from a few days mid-November I should be around most of the time and able to go to most of the Belfast get togethers.

Just keepting my fingers crossed I don't end up minus my computer again this year....

@Farfalla : Thanks for offering a lift. I see if I can squeeze one or two Belfast write-ins in my schedule.

Hi folks.

Really quite excited that it's NaNo time once more. Hoping that I won't end up being admitted into hospital mid-November again this year. Hospital beds are not exactly the most conducive places to try writing a novel.

Still yet to make it to 50,000, but I have a good feeling about this year. It's my third year attempting the great endeavour, and it's said that the third time can be the charm.

Planning to go to as many of the Belfast meet-ups as I'm able, so looking forward to seeing a lot of you again.

Hey Bee & skavager, here's hoping you both make it painlessly through this year. I wondered what happened to you last year, skavager! Sorry to hear it involved hospital. :(

Hi Guys.

I'm Sami and Im back again this year for my 2nd attempt. I managed 50k last year whilst being a first year at Uni, hopefully 2nd year isnt too harsh on me and I can complete the 50k again this year. Im looking forward to it actually and Ive been attempting to get some ideas spinning in my head so Im a bit more prepared this year.

Unfortunately Im up in University in Coleraine Mon-Fri so I wont be able to make it to any Belfast meetings or anything. I would consider Derry but I dont know my way round the place and Id probably get lost haha. Although now I think about it, my housemate still works up in Belfast and goes up a few evenings a week so I could maybe travel up and down with her a few times. But we'll see how it goes.

So, is everyone feeling the buzz yet? I am and I cant wait to get started!

Hey Sami, nice to have you back. You're my hero from last year after that incredible 9k you managed on the last day!

Hopefully we'll have some weekend meetings this year, like we did last year, that you might be able to make it to. Or even better, talk some friends in taking part and have your own meetings!

Hey everyone.

I'm Jenna, and after stalking (no, really) NaNoWriMo for these past two years, I've finally plucked up the courage to give it a go!
I don't know what I've let myself in for haha! I'm sure it'll be a blast though.

I'll see if I can make it to a few of the meetings, I live in Down, though, so I'm pretty much out of the way of everything.
Ah, if only I could drive myself.

Well, good luck to us all. I know I'll need it, at least! ;D

Welcome Louise and Jenna - and good luck to you both with your first NaNoWriMo!

Even if you can't make face-to-face meetings, we have a chat room in which to hang out and chat (obviously) and have word sprints (seeing how much we can write in 10 or 15 or 20 minutes, to boost our counts). There are usually people in there most evenings and on weekends - come and say hello!

Hi Fellow NINaNoWriMos!

My name is Victoria and this is my first year at attempting the 50K. I live in Lurgan and will see what I can do about Belfast meetings because I am sure I will value the support once we all get started. I'm looking forward to November...

All the best everyone,

Hello Everyone,

My name is Amanda. I'm a first timer based in Lisburn. I may be able to make some of the meets but tend to get a bit misanthropic when writing so here's to hoping I will at least! I'm really looking forward to this and want to wish everyone the best of luck in advance!

Hi Victoria and Amanda!

Sorry we're so Belfast-centric, but it's where the core of our WriMos have been for the past few years (and, well, it's got a big population).

If you can't make meetings though, come and chat online sometime - see one of my replies above for more info.

Hi everyone! I'm Joanna, this is my third year trying Nanowrimo. I completed it successfully on my first try in 2007, but last year was a bit of a flop as my granny went into hospital in the second week of november. Lost the motivation to write and gave up at about 10k words as I was way too far behind.

I'm hoping to drop by for some of the meet-ups, as it is really hard to motivate yourself even under the best of circumstances. ;)

Hi everyone!

I'm Tammy and this is my fourth nano, returning after having to take a while off due to November commitments that ate up all my time.

My first novel 'The Even' was published in 2008 by Morrigan Books and I have just sent the second book in the series to my editor for a look over. I'm trying to finish editing my unsold - to date! - nanovel to get it out there before I dive head first into Nano this year.

I'm also appearing at Literary Readings with Gerard Brennan, Stuart Neville, Annie McCartney and Ian McDonald at the Lock-Keepers Inn over November! Please come along and show support, or just say Hi! I'm only reading on the first night but I'll be there every week and I love to talk. Ask anyone, you just can't stop me!

Hi Joanna and Tammy, welcome back for another year!

Definitely try and get to some meetings if you can, Joanna - most people who do usually make it to their 50k! My theory is that it's nice to know you're not the only one... plus at meetings, we can share ideas and tips, as well as getting some word sprints in to boost our counts.

And I'll definitely see you on Thursday evenings, Tammy - I've even rearranged my work schedule. :)

Hey Nicky, welcome back!

I just realised I never actually introduced myself! So for the benefit of those who haven't met me in previous years (or haven't looked at my profile)...

My name's Catherine; I'm Welsh but have been living in Northern Ireland for almost 10 years now (married to a local lad too now). I live over in Strabane, Co. Tyrone, but I work a couple of days a week in Belfast - which means I get to organise and attend meetings in two places. (Very good for my word count!)

This is my seventh year doing NaNoWriMo; my fifth as an ML (I did 3 years for Ireland:Elsewhere before NI got its own region last year), and I've won 4 out of 6 so far.

I mostly write fantasy, though I've also written chicklit and young adult and 'other' - this year I'm tackling a SF comedy for my own amusement, plus trying to get some words done on my lingering fantasy saga. The SF comes first though, because to avoid being a NaNo-rebel, I need to put in at least 50,000 words on it.

I'm actually aiming for a BIG word count this year, having managed to increase it every year until last year I reached the lofty heights of 70,000 words /and/ a finished story. That's the problem with having done NaNoWriMo so many times; once you know you can get those 50k, it's very tempting to set harder goals just to prove you can reach those too...
Don't let that put you off though if you've never got to 50k before! It took me a couple of goes too, to find my writing style and speed and stride.

I'm a technical writer by day (software manuals) which means it can get difficult during November to turn off my inner editor...

Still time to make my introduction ...

My name is Bruce, and I'm a NINoWriMo'er!

This my fourth year in NaNoWriMo, and my first as an ML.
I've used my Studio NI contacts to organise a few events for us in the Belfast area, and I'll be at the write-ins on Mondays.

More info about the events is here:
http://www.orb-store.com/studio/ninowrimo.htm

Good luck!

Hi all - I'm Jay and until a few moments ago I was determined that I wasn't going to do Nano, this year.

... somehow, though, I am sitting here filling this thing in.

At the moment I have a title and a vague concept of what I am going to write; hopefully the rest will come when I actually 'start' ... this is my third year of registering for Nano and I am hoping that, this year, will be the one where I actually type more than my bio information ;)

I live in Armagh with my wife and two baby boys (31 months and 7 months) and work full-time in Belfast. I teach martial arts twice a week.

... and if any of you are thinking that the above sounds like I may not have the time to do this then get out of my head, it is already crowded in here ;)

Will possibly try to make some of the events as well.

Jay

Hello everyone!

This is my 5th time participating but never been able to finish. I didn't plan to join in this year but at the last minute (seeing how it starts in 3.5 hours), I wasn't able to resist. My name is Wendy by the way and I'm from the Netherlands. I moved to Northern Ireland 3 days ago so everything is new but as I'm still friendless (poor me haha), I hope to be able to write after work (I'm here as an au pair). The 'massive' village of Bleary is my new home; in case you've never heard of it - it's really close to Lurgan.

Good luck everyone!!

Hey everyone!

I did nano last year :) I didn't get the 50, 000 words though - makes me more determined this year!
I didn't go to any write-in's last year, so I'm determined to go this year too :)

I'm 17, 18 in December.
I'm writing a horror/thriller book this year :)
It's called Midnight Murder.

Last year I wrote a supernatural book called One Last Chance
I managed 40, 000 words

I'm in college at the moment studying Biology, Sociology and Psychology.
I'm attending Belfast Metropolitan College.
Does anyone else go there?
We could arrange Nano write-ins XD

Hello there,

I am Welsh but was dragged from my sleepy village by my face by a feisty Irish girl who I met in university. That happened four years ago and since then I have been blessed with a lovely daughter who, after her escape from the womb, is besotted with shoes, bags, 'green' (everything is green. Seriously, I don't get a say. Oh and if it is not green it is a bear or dog) and babies.

I really hope to hit the 50,000 word target by the end of November and I am doing my best to rid myself from doubt.

I have a few hurdles along the way, tiredness, work, a child, dyslexia but I am excited at the prospect of a book, repetitive strain injury, no skin left on the tips of my fingers and an addiction to those instant coffee things you can get from Lidals.

I hope to get to know a few of you guys a lot more so that we can help motivate each other and embrace the creative insanity which I am sure will all suffer.

Good luck to you all!

Hi, I'm Andrew. Tried entering last year, got shingles on the 5th, and had to drop out.

This year I'm moving house in less-than-ideal circumstances, but I'm trying NaNoWriMo again.

I wasn't going to, but farfalla kept badgering me about it all day until I agreed to at least write 100 words tonight. She is really quite an efficitve ML, turning up at my office and encouraging me like that.

Effective or STALKER. You decide......
