Welcome to the Writers Syndicate of Springfield Missouri!

Grab a chair and have a seat, we're going to start this off with introductions. Tell us about you, we want to get to know you before you jump into the awesome insanity that is NaNoWriMo. Basic info is always a good start: Your name (or handle, if you prefer not to give out your real one), how long have you been doing NaNo/is this your first year, why you decided to start doing NaNo, ideas/genre/titles you've come up with for your novel this year, whatever sounds interesting to you!

Also, make sure that you go here to set your home region: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/og/home
+ You'll want to make sure it's set to "United States :: Missouri :: Springfield". If nothing is on that screen, click on the "My Regions" tab in order to add it. Having Springfield set as your home region means that you'll always see the Springfield, Missouri Regional Lounge in the forums and that your word count will be added to Springfield's overall word count throughout the month.

That's about it for this thread, just jump on in and say hey to your fellow NaNoers. They won't bite!

Hooray! It's up!!!

Okay. Hi! It's LeAnn, aka Danalas. Y'all probably remember some of my stranger posts last year, especially from the Dares Thread. (Bob on the end of everyone's name, anyone? :P)

I'm currently trying to get hubby to sign up, despite his threat to make an entirely Labyrinth-based novel when he doesn't even really like Labyrinth. I strongly suspect it's in an attempt to irritate me for somehow managing to drag him into this insanity, if I do.

Last year, I made it to one write-in, the tour of Springfield, and I was especially happy with the first leg of it at San Francisco Oven, but no more! They have stopped doing breakfast! Which really sucks, too, 'cause they had awesome French toast. Anyway, my original point to this whole thing is that last year I had to hitch a ride, and this year, I won't have to, because I finally got my driver's license! Bwahahahahaha.....

So, anyway. This is my second year involved in this madness. I won last year with my novel Alodia's Journal, and this year I'm doing an incredibly meta novel that I know will revolve around Atlantis, but I haven't got a title for it, yet. Hopefully I'll come up with one before November 1st!

I've also had a really strange NaNo-related dream already this year in which I somehow dragged Bishop Johnston into NaNo, and he held a special midnight NaNo kickoff Mass at St. Agnes, and instead of "The Mass is over, go in the peace and glory of God," he said, "The Mass is over. Bring out the lap tops and up that word count!" And then he dragged out his own lap top and we all started noveling right there in the sanctuary.

I'm looking forward to this wonderful, crazy, insane adventure that is NaNo!

LeAnn/Danalas

Let me start with the easy stuff:

Name: Gayle
NaNos: 2003 (win), 2004 (win), 2005 (win), 2006 (win), 2007 (EPIC BURNOUT), 2008 (mild indifference)
You may also call me: Your exalted co-ruler with the fabulous colorofsakura. That's right, NaNo, I'm BACK.

This year's novel is titled "The Life and Times of Alligator Girl: The True Story of a Semi-Popular Comic Book Character". It's set in the modern day where things run pretty much the same except that comic books were banned after the obscenitiy trials in the '50s and only became an industry again in the '70s because the Supreme Court overturned the decision on the basis of it violating free speech.

And there's a lot more, but I'll save that for later.

What else to know? Oh! Those who remember me from NaNos past will be glad to hear that the death car has been gleefully replaced! I now drive a very reliable roller skate that seats four (and has a good heater!). I can't promise I'll have it avialable for every carpool session, but if I don't, I'll be in The Husband's tank of a Buick looking like a tiny old lady on her way to church.

HOORAY, NaNo season has come again!

The Name Game
As you can see, the username is Malathyne. :3 For short, call me Mala. In real life you can call me Allie, but lol I am perfectly fine if you just call me Mala. I think that has happened before xDD But I personally call myself "Mala" more than I do "Allie," so yeah. Take your pick.

About Mala
I have pretty much been a lurker. I haven't really been able to go to a lot of meetings in the past due to the fact that I was like fourteen and everyone else were college students and my parents were Paranoid, but hopefully this year I should be able to go to more, especially since I ride the bus a lot. c: I may be in need of carpooling services, but I'll feel bad if I have to make someone drive all over town so I'll probably prefer to be driven to the bus station or something, LOL. Still, chances are you'll see me poking around more on the forums than in real life, sadly. :| But I hope I can attend write-ins this year! I even finally have my own laptop! >w<;

History as a NaNovelist
I started participating in NaNo when I was in eighth grade. c: I remember when the group was really small and I was the young'un~ ... I don't know if I still am the young'un, but, uh, I figure I'm down there somewhere. I haven't hit the big 50k yet, and it hasn't been my goal to. I've been setting my own personal goals and have been slowly trying to build up to the big Five-Quadruple-O.

I have a tendency to write fanfiction, as you'll notice, and... I don't know, I don't really have an excuse for it other than it's easy? XD This year in particular, it'll be a lot easier for me to pick up a fanfic that I made plans for ages ago but never got around to writing. It's ready to go, the plans just need a little tweaking and updating. I have an original modern/steampunkish fantasy story that I was seriously considering NaNo'ing, but the plot needs a lot more work and it's just not ready to be written yet. :/ This is what I got on short notice, even though writing fanfiction for NaNo again makes me feel childish. xD

I was originally going to include a short description of my NaNovels, but it kind of made the post tl;dr-looking. ._. So I'm putting it in my bio instead. If you're curious, go look. XD

This year, I'm falling back to good ol' Kingdom Hearts fanfiction. (Yes, I know. >_>;) I think it's safe to call it Alternate Universe, and basically I'm giving someone new a Keyblade and having them run around and save the universe from this crazy-ass devil-child. Yup. Devil-child villains are the best. <3

Hello NaNo! I'm Ink_Song but you can just call me Ink for short. I'm a twenty year old college student and this will be my first official NaNo. Malathyne was actually the one who got me into NaNo (Love ya' Mala) and since then I have been hooked.
So far my NaNo is only a few characters and a basic plot, I really don't plan to do any other planning aside from that, I prefer to let the novel write itself. I'm looking forward to a great first NaNo, I hope I can reach that big 50K and make a few new friends!

Hey! I'm Anita, Ani, Scruffy Princess, "That one in the floofy dresses", and you can pretty much call me any of the above.

I started NaNo in 2007, failed, tried again in 2008, got sick at the end and failed, and this year I'm like "No excuses, no holding back. I'm gonna write my %$@&ing fingers off."

This year my novel is going to be themed with lolita fashion, and basically just the adventures of three friends as they do both mundane and wild things - in $300 dresses and petticoats. It's a poke at one of my biggest loves, which is lolita fashion. So far I've got some great ideas, but I'm always welcome to more. If you don't know what lolita fashion is, wiki it or just come to a write-in for some up close examples.

When I'm not a novelist, I sew, drink tea, swear a lot, adore my bird, write to my penpals, play DDR, collect plushes and clothing, and generally just cause havoc.

Hello! I'm Phebe.
This will be my second year attempting NaNoWriMo. Notice the word attempt there. That's right, I failed last year. November is just a generally busy month to begin with. Toss in some 50,000 words to write and it just becomes CHAOS. But this year... THIS YEAR I will be victorious!! Or I'm going to try to be... I already have a few papers due in November, not to mention two booked weekends. But I will go without sleep if I must!! I am determined!

I only made it to one meeting. This year, though, I will be sociable! Not that sociable means anything to me besides sitting in a room with others while I write with headphones in. But still! It'll be fun! :D

In order to ensure success, I should probably already have my story figured out... Buuut I don't. There are some ideas bouncing around, but nothing that really sticks out yet. :/

Hey all! I'm excited to join you guys this year. I'm Alice, I usually write under the name A.R. or Alice R. Cummings. I'm from nearby Springfield, but not in town. I just finished writing my first novel in five years, it ended up at 74,600 + words. I also placed second in the Missouri Literary Festival's award for Short Fiction. I'm hoping to get the first 50,000 on a new novel done this November. I write historical romance and my project for NaNo is set in Tasmania roughly late 1830's. I made myself a promise that '09 was going to be my year and so far, so good. Cannot wait to begin writing like mad.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

Heya, my name is Erin. I actually don't live in Springfield, but Joplin is close enough, right?
I'm writing a science fiction novel this year (that's the genre I stick to for the most part.) I have yet to think of a title for it, but I'm outlining it already and am pretty happy so far with the characters. All of my novels so far involve social commentary by using alien races in contrast with humanity. I'm gearing this novel towards the YA market, unlike my others. I'd love to talk to and brainstorm with others who are writing sf novels this year. I find that the creative juices flow much better when I engage another writer in conversation.

I'm not afraid to take or to give constructive criticism if anyone cares to do novel swaps in December. :)

Ok, so I've never actually finished a NaNoWriMo novel, but I've written three others on my own. Nothing published yet beyond short stories and such, though. I suppose I get a little neurotic about my editing.

Good luck everyone!

OK, I suspect that since I'm here AGAIN I suppose I will be trying yet another novel. I know that what is still going on in my head are the first 4 years of novels, which though I did faithfully follow all the rules, write my fingers off while focusing on working my way generally through my plot and 'win' with completing the requisite word count by the end of November, but as I didn't finish any of them, they ALL now and then speak to me - or should I say, the characters in the books speak to me about finishing said novels. And of course, this brings up the guilt complex of never finishing anything I start and the consequential mind and hand rending about what my problem is. However, here I am again, this time trying to figure out which possible plot that has nothing to do with any previous uncompleted novels can I scratch onto the digital memory device for the upcoming 30 days.

Frankly considering my current apathy toward doing much of anything more strenuous than reading, eating and occasionally washing dishes, I'd say I'll be hard pressed to complete this year unless some muse (got any extra?) manages to light a fire under me. But then, I'm a sucker for punishment so HERE I AM BACK FOR A 5th Freakin' year.

H Diane Tucker - idiot who forgot to come up with an alias. I live in Lebanon.
I write a combination of mysteries with a lot of whimsy and ill-researched historical nonsense thrown in. If anyone has ideas of what I should try next, I'll be happy to give things a try. At this point, anything but romantic schmaltz or horror would probably be as good as anything I can dream up in the next few weeks.

HELLLLOOOO, KIDS (oh my god, i'm actually saying that without irony now because i'm actually probably older than some of you by now! also, ick, that sentence was repetitious)

Names! Character names! Wait, that's not my name, that's your name, that's Captain Kirk, what's your name again? Alllrighttttt, I'll just call you Captain Kirk!
My name's Kati! Middle name Michelle, also referred to Kate-eye by friends either trying to take the piss or to make me smile when the emo comes around. I'm a lurker extraordinaire, Instrumental Music Education major at Missouri State (freshman, and will hopefully be able to say next year that I'm a BME student at Northwestern University. Sup transfer?), and three-time FAIL at the game of NaNo, mostly due to depression (worsening into double depression about the time of NaNo commencement - thank you, lack of sunlight!) completely eradicating my will to write and live. This year, hopefully, the meds will change that, as also hopefully will my AWSUM plot.

Afore-mentioned AWSUM PLOT
The beginning's a bit . . . blurry, idk, but it'll take place half in our own glorious city and half in Chicago (and a bit in the endless expanses of suburbia and cornfields between). Basically, it all has to do with a college student turned merch girl, a few bands in the unpinable-by-genre sect of the Chicago music scene, and the literal other/under-world thereof. There'll be a few explosions, some casualties, and three people falling in love in a way generally not commended by society. Is it obvious I haven't done my outlining yet and only came up with this in the shower last night? Like many of you could probably say, the plot's a lot more fully-formed, colorful, and appealing INSIDE my head. Sigh. Whatever, though, I'm passionate about the idea and as long as I make it unrecognizable as the creepy bandom fanfiction it is, it'll be fine.

No titles yet, because I am INFINITELY LAME and also because I will NOT let it be a lyric no matter how much my brain insists. I'm thinking Stretch the Light, though. Opinions?

Also, any MSU students should add me and I'll add back - normally I'm quite a hermit, but I get the feeling it'll be nice to have someone to talk to/share grievances with RE: NaNo, or even just someone to sit next to in the library/PSU and write silently with.

See you all at the write-ins! :***

Hello fellow MSU'er!

My name is my username. My first name is Rebekah, but I go by my middle name of Joy.

I'm a junior at MSU, having been away from college for three school years. I'm new to Springfield, having moved here the beginning of summer. I moved from Kansas City, so it wasn't a huge change, except that I'm now living on my own for the first time ever.

I don't have a car or a driver's license, despite my 24 years of age, so I've been doing a lot of walking. Thankfully I'm living where I can easily catch the campus shuttle or walk to the grocery store or movie theater. So I'm good.

I'm a Creative Writing major and a Folklore minor. I'm excited but still nervous about being back in school after such a long absence.

I feel a bit out of place in my classes because of my age, but that's okay. I've always been one of the oldest in my circle of friends anyway. I've also recently been on a "recapture my childhood" binge, complete with Disney Princesses, so I'm still a teen at heart (well, that and I still look like one...).

I'm not sure what I'm doing for NaNo this year. In the past I've mainly just used it as motivation to get more written on my novel (the development of which is going on 9 years in December), but I might use it to actually write a different story this year... *shrugs*

With school and all, I don't even know how much I'll get done, but I'll try.

Time to hop on the shuttle for class, so ta ta for now!

Joy-

You sound like me three years ago! Becaue three years ago I was 24, no license, and in college. Of course, I was working on my AA at OTC and didn't transfer to MSU until the next summer, but still.

So don't worry. You're not the only one who's a bit older than the rest of her classmates! I'm 27, JUST got my license this past Wednesday, and a 5th year senior. And, though I started out as a creative writing major (though, unlike you, I had ancient Greek as a minor), I'm not an English Education major.

Alright, here goes nothing. I am Angelic Assassin here on the forums, but in just about every other setting I go by Sarah, hey long haired girl, and ocasionally I answer to mei-mei. This is my fourth year participating in NaNo, I failed in 06, but in 07 and 08 I managed it, here's hoping I make it this year (though this year I will have help keeping focused while at school). Hopefully this year I will be able to make it to some of the write ins this year, unlike last year, because I may have finally convinced my boyfriend to

I am completely insane, just ask anyone who knows me. I know a little bit of Japanese, Latin, and French, all three of which I studied in high school. I also quilt and sew, so if you want to include that in your novel to help pad wordcount I am willing to help with that (once I got 1000 words describing the work done on a wedding dress). And for further testament to my insanity, I have a fridge full of game fuel in my garage and will probably be consuming all of it during November.

I just literally gasped out loud because that's my (intended) major and minor too. aaaaa I cannot express in words how happy that makes me

Hey all, it's me again. I decided to actually introduce myself *SHOCK AND AWE*

Name: Robert, but I also go by Rob.
NaNo History: 2005 (good attempt), 2006 (win), 2007 (win), 2008 (win). This will be my fifth year, and hopefully my fourth win.
I'm your Co-ML alongside Gayle, it's my second year MLing officially and I'm loving it. Hopefully with two of us in tow this year you guys will never be short on an encouraging word.

My novel this year is entitled "FUSiONFaLL", a name I thought I was being original with until I found out that it's also the name of an MMO-type game done by Cartoon Network. Oh well, I'm sticking with it. I don't really have a major plot set for it yet. I do know it's going to be Mainstream Fiction like my novel last year. However, I'm totally not going to try to kill myself by writing over 100,000 words this year.

I also have a new car, much like Gayle, and therefore will be able to also participate in carpooling sessions. I drive a fabulously roomy toaster on wheels (also known to the general public as a Scion xB), so I'll be able to tow at least 3-4 people with me if need be. It's a wonderful car. :D

Either way, it's nice to meet you all and hopefully I will see you guys at the Write Ins!

Hopefully HQ will get the Mass Email fixed soon and I'll be able to be flooding everyone's inbox with awesomely informational emails. Mwahahaha. <3

That's awesome! I changed my minor the day I came down to Springfield to register for classes. That darned baccalaureate requirement concerning a certain amount of credit hours in 300-level and above classes decided it for me. Art was just not gonna give me enough 300-level classes. So I went with Folklore.

Seeing as how it's my heart's ambition to work full-time at Silver Dollar City for the rest of my life, I figured Folklore in conjunction with Creative Writing/Short Story could lend me some good weight if I wanted to try to become a storyteller or a park character.

Man, it is a small world! I worked at SDC for five seaons (if you could work there year round I would never have left it) It was by far the best job I've ever had. I worked at Fire in the Hole as a ride attendant/operator. Everything I learned about Bald Knobbers has inspired me to someday write a novel about them. I started the first chapter a couple of weeks ago, but haven't done anymore work on it.

I don't know why we are Poozers but then again I didn't understand a lot of you young peoples rantings last year. 'BUS'
My name is Wanda. My screen name, Sereana, comes from my belief system. I am the old lady that came to the write ins last year. This will be my third year doing this craziness. I won last year but my novel was an awful mess. This year I am going in with a small outline and going to try to stay on course. Writing woman's fiction this year (that is the new term for romance I found out at the literary festival). May come to some write ins, may not. They do tend to help me produce a good word count because I usually don't talk to anybody.

Hi everyone! My name is Tori or Victoria, depending on how formal you feel like being (though I go by retterin here on the forum). This is my first year doing NaNo, though I've been intending to do since, oh, 2004. I'm very excited about the whole process.

I'm currently a graduate student at MSU, though not in any field related to English or Writing. I'll also be working on my Master's thesis during November, plus a couple of ridiculous papers, so I plan on crashing completely at some point.

I've had my novel in my head for a long time now, so it will be a relief to get it down on paper. At this point I have characters, a general idea of the plot, and a title. Still working on finding an exact setting, but I'm not too worried about it.

Hi everyone! I'm Daphne... or Skarlatha, if you prefer. I'm a graduate student in technical writing at MSU, and I WOULD have had a creative writing minor as an undergraduate except I didn't feel like taking upper-level poetry classes (not that I hate poetry, you understand, I just suck at it). I do, however, teach creative writing at MSU for this semester only. I'm trying to badger some of my students into joining NaNo, but I haven't had any success yet (except for the one student who was already planning to do it).

Enough rambling.

I write romance novels. There, I said it. I am not ashamed. Last year I won with Abandon, which was actually pretty decent considering that I finished at 11:57p.m. on November 30 with 50,003 words. I participated in 2007, but we will not speak of that.

This year's project is actually pretty well fleshed out in my mind, but it doesn't have a title yet. It's about two aristocratic folks in 1820's England who have been married for several years but don't really like each other and don't enjoy sex, and (obviously, since it's a romance novel) how they fall in love yada yada yada. Okay, I'm a little ashamed. But I won't let that stop me.

Yay for NaNo!

2007: Songbird (epic failure)
2008: Abandon (winner!)
2009: "Evenings in Autumn" and/or "Love in Retrospect" (working on both until I decide which one I like better)

(UGH. I JUST tried to reply to this thread!)

Hi everyone! I've enjoyed reading everyone's introductions and I hope to meet everyone soon!

My name is Valerie, or Valeriethefair, if you wish. ;-) You can also find me on Twitter under that same name.

Lesseeeee...I gave NaNoWriMo a try back in 2006 and 2007 with little luck. I'm confident I will be successful this year because not only do I have two good friends doing this who will keep me on track, but I also am plugged into the forum AND a region. I really wanted to give this a try this year because one of my friends is going through a lot and if she can do it, so can I, darn it!

A little about me, I moved to Springfield from Washington, D.C. literally the day after I got married in June. My husband is an MSU grad student. I work with toddlers at a child and family development center here in town. Oh, and I'm expecting my first baby in late March of next year. Sooo as you can see, we've had a lot of changes this year!

I don't know how many write-ins/meet-ups I will be able to go to, but I will do my best to go to as many as possible. I won't be at the first one. I already warned my husband that I was doing this. I don't think he'll complain about tagging along with me to Panera. :-)

My novel is called An Eclipsing and...well, let's just say the plot still needs some shaping, but it takes place in Georgian England. My lead character has nightmares that start becoming a part of her everyday life. I'm a total nerd and have already "cast" my characters with different actors and actresses (does anyone else do that?)

I love: chocolate, cats and dogs, spending time with the man (aww! - barf), reading, Vera Bradley bags, coffee, Yankee candles, sleeping, college football, New England sports teams (except the Red Sox), and the TV show Lost.

I hate: people who chew with their mouths open, traffic, driving here in Springfield, peas and green beans, interpersonal drama, Extreme Makeover Home Edition, and working out.

Anyway, feel free to nanomail me at any time or add me on Twitter or add me as a buddy on here. I'm really looking forward to this!!

Hey there! My name's Stephen Irwin, and this is going to be my first year NaNo-ing. I've been writing for a long time, and I want to know how in the world I was never informed of this whole thing before. Oh well. I'm 19, and I know I'm crazy, but I think I can make that 50,000 goal. (I hope. *gulp*) I'm still extremely new and I hate feeling like a noob, so please, even though I may ask some dumb questions (and by some, I mean a bunch), try to bear with me. :) I'm planning on making the meets and write-ins as often as I can, so I guess I'll see you all there in person, but I figured I ought to say hi here first.

Hope everyone is as pumped as me!

Greetings fellow poozers and other sub-humans.

Have NO fear tis I DogBeard husband of Danalas the Lady Chaos..and I bring Psychadelic paranoid panda pandimonium. I live in the beautiful southern outskirts of Springfield, MIsery where I have been wed to the Lady Chaos for the past two years.

My beloved corpse, I mean wife, subjected me, I mean introduced me to NaNo and this will be my first year participating. I have absolutely no friggin idea what I am writing or the title of it as of this time, but I have Faith...and you can't have her back..so there *sticks out tongue*

Before I go, one more thing..please watch the floor for my aggies and cat's eyes...The Lady Chaos swears that I have lost my marbles. :-) When she first introduced me to NaNoWriMo, I thought that she was saying Nano-Rhino and I could not figure out what the big deal was over little rhinos, why they were being celebrated for a month and a month only, and what the heck writing had to do with these little rhinos was beyond me. But live and learn. Hear I am today getting ready to take part in my first Nano-rhino. :-)

Hello,

I am a Creative Writing Major/History and Asian Studies minor at MSU. This will be my second year of doing NaNoWriMo. Last year, I won NaNo with a fantasy novel. This year, I'm going for a story centered around the Norse gods in a modern setting. I look forward to seeing all of you at the write ins!

Man it's good to be back. I'm Geoff and this is round two of Nano for me. I think I'm the youngest here as of yet, being a Senior in High School. Uh, I have no life this November, being a Theater junkie. This means that roughly half way through Nano my show opens, and any sleep I had disappears completely. I may be a zombie by Novembers end, but I promise to be a happy zombie! Not sure if I'll be able to hit up the write-ins, but we'll see. Perhaps I'll get lucky and the AP teachers will stop giving me boring stuff to do.

Uh, when not on the stage or writing endless essays, I'm a Scout and enjoying sleeping in my (non-exsistent) free time. Oh, and for some reason I always hit preview post instead of post comment, so this is take two for introductions...

P.S. I tell horrible jokes. Ye be warned.

Hi Geoff. :D I am an ex-theatre kid. Where do you go to school?

... also... haha, hi Stephen. *waves* I know you. I don't know if you'd recognize my name, but we talked a few times 'cause we both went to Parkview. Allie Carroll, hiya?

Allie Carroll, huh? I do recognize the name, but I don't have a face to go with it. Refresh my memory, how did I know you again? Great to hear a name I recognize though! I was worried I was just going to be the weird one in the corner with my notebook and a big ol' thing of soda and I wouldn't know anyone.

I happen to call Springfield Catholic my school. Theatre wise we're putting on a production of "You Can't Take it With You" which is promising to be a hilarious comedy with almost no educational value.

Dude, Glendale did that last year, it was great! Of course I didn't take part, I'm just a periphery-theatre kid (aka pit orchestra member) but it was a great show. Have fun!
