Hi everyone and welcome to 09!

This is just a quick post to let you know some of the dates and events we have coming up. If you have any questions or comments please just reply below.

Your MLs

Glasgow has two Municipal Liaisons this year. Myself, Essbee, and Sabrina. Sabrina is new to Glasgow but not to Nano and has been ML for Denver, Colorado, in previous years. We would be your points of contact should you have any questions, suggestions, comments about what is happening in Glasgow region.

Official kick-off party

We will be organising a pre kick-off meal and celebration. This is a chance for us to meet, discuss ideas, offer suggestions and help and generally wonder why we have signed up to this in the first place! Date, time and place to follow however we are looking at 30th October. We will gather some feedback from you guys before we settle on the place as this is your Nano so your thoughts are important to us!

31st October

Sabrina would like to know if anyone would like to take part in a midnight kick-off on the 31st October. This would be the first time it would happen in Glasgow so if you would be interested can you please reply below so we can find approximate numbers to see whether it would be viable to go ahead.

Write-ins

We are going to be organising official write-ins a week - one on a week day and one on a weekend. We would aim one of these be a quiet write-in and one be a more sociable time. Dates, time and venue will follow when we have confirmation. These write-ins will have prizes, be a chance to meet, offer support, have fun and also raise money for the Nano charity.

Trip to Bute

Last year some of us visited Bute as we do include the islands in the Glasgow region. We are really wanting to do this again this year because it was really good fun and a chance to break from routine. We even managed to write inside a castle! We are looking at the date for this trip being 21st November. Details will follow.

TGIO party

We will be having a party after November to celebrate our winners and generally say "Thank god its over!". More details on this will follow but it will likely be the first week of December.

Twitter

We have created a twitter channel for people to link to from their own twitters. The channel name is GlasgowNano. Twitter is a pretty straightforward program and the chat there will be mostly offtopic and people posting word counts so if you do not wish to sign up for a twitter account you wont be missing any important announcements as they will always be posted in this forum.

Once again welcome to Nano 09 and hopefully speak / meet / write with you soon!

Great to be back and good to see you've got some quality help this year Essbee :-) Hi Sabrina and welcome to Glasgow!

I'm not sure I'll be able to make many write-ins this year (will explain when I see you) and sadly not the 30th as we're heading down to England that day for a wedding on 31st. I'm taking my laptop though and intend to sneak out of the reception just before midnight, just like Cinderella, to start my '09 novel. I'm sure by that time enough wine will have flowed so that I won't be missed.

Bute might be a problem as well as it's the same weekend as my writers club retreat at Portpatrick, which is always too good to miss and I could write lots of NaNo words there. We'll see, if anything gets in the way of PP then I'll do Bute instead.

Definitely won't miss the TGIO party though :-)

Hi i'm new to all this, have no idea what i have let myself n for, have no plot ideas at the moment (though a planning to start playing round with a few), but have signed up to make myself at least try some writting!! I am however in Glasgow! I have written the trip to Bute in my diary, which means there is a good chance i'll make it, but i'm not good at knowing what's happening tomorrow let alone next month.

----------

I have no clue on spelling and grammer (i have dyslexia) please be nice to me, when/ if you point out mistakes!

Welcome aboard the mad NaNo train, then! ^_^. Don't worry too much if you aren't totally sure what to write about yet, there's still almost the entire month left to go, and half the time the plot flies out the window anyway. (Or gets crushed beneath another one...one of my entries did that literally, every few chapters I'd get stuck and just drop a house on top of everyone and have the new characters walk out the front door. That was a weird year...)

Anyway, hope to see you at some of the meetups, if not the Bute trip as well!

kcblackstar, which kickoff party? We've got rough times planned for both...Essbee knows the details about the official daytime kickoff party, and as for the midnight one we have a thread discussing just that in the forum as well (but we're thinking 10:30-11pm start time, depending entirely on where it's held, IF it's held at all).

Hi all, I live in Ayrshire and I'm looking forward to another year of NaNoWriMo, I didn't get to any of the meetups but maybe this time I will.

Hi Spring Onion,

I'm in Ayrshire too, Kilbirnie to be precise. I think we have a writing buddy in common as well, Dixie Girl, from Indiana.

Hope you can make some of the write-ins this year, their useful and fun.

Hi everyone.

I did Nano last year, but I just moved to Glasgow for Uni, so new to this Region.

I wouldn't be able to make a midnight kick-off, but something on the 30th would be good. As would Bute.

Hi Silverk!
What uni have you started? I've just started Strathclyde, but I'm staying at home, which is just outside Glasgow. I did nanowrimo the last two years, and am thoroughly looking forward to this year. Welcome to Glasgow!

Hi All

This is my first nano and I am feeling nervous. Not sure if I will make it to the meetups as I have two little ones but I will try ;)

Is anyone else from East Kilbride?

Hey, everybody.

I'm going to give it a go this year again. Hopefully I won't have the illness problem again this year and I'll try to make it to the Friday night meet up again to say hullo before sinking into the shadows to write for the rest of the month.

Hey,

This would be my first attempt at Nano. Hoping to work on a project that's been kicking about in my head for months. Living in Motherwell and don't drive to attendance at meets may be difficult, can mange Bute though as it's where my man lives and I get free ferry travel.

Just a wee hello to everyone- this will be my first time at NaNo proper, barring a couple of lethargy-induced false starts which won't be the case this time, no siree. I'll hopefully make it along to some of the events so perhaps see some of you then!

Hooray, more first timers! Welcome to you both! Are either of you thinking about attending any of the kickoff parties, or both? It's a good way to get momentum going even before you start writing ^_^.

I shall try to make Friday's gathering but may well be mauled for suggesting I spend money on something as trivial when I have so much to save for next year (not that it's likely to stop me).

Hello.

This is my second NaNoWriMo. I did my first last year, in Aberdeen. I went to three write-ins and pulled a heroic sprint from 16k at day 20 to 53k at day 29.

I'd like to think that I have learned from last year and will be trying a more reasonable pace over the month. Expect to see me at the write-ins and the kick-off party (prolly not the midnight start though).

I write YA, I am not embarrassed by this but feel free to be embarrassed for me.

Hey this is my first NaNo WriMo. I'm a 2nd year in Glasgow uni and wisely taking up the challenge when I have two essay deadlines on the 9th of November which I'm hoping to have tucked away before wrimo kicks off. Not sure if I'll make the 50k but I'm hoping wrimo will help me kill the evil inner editor I have that stops me from ever making any good novel progress.

Ah, it's good to see so many keen peeps!

I'm back for more writing madness this year, should be fun. After a few years of trying I managed the 50k last year and I'm convinced I can do it again...

I could even be talked into the midnight start, even though it's in the wretched hive of scum and villany that is Paisley.

Hello everyone,

It's been a mad year and I can't believe how close November suddenly looks.

I'm very much looking forward to the Bute trip, seeing as I live here and I won't be able to make it to the Glasgow write ins ;-D I'm cautiously enthusiastic for November. ;-D

Hi everyone!

This is my second year of doing NaNoWriMo, which makes me annoyed I don't know about it before. I'm still deciding which of my novels to work on for this year's frenetic burst of scribbling, but I'm so excited I literally can't concentrate on anything else!
