Okay all, here we are the new NaNo forums for the year!! I am beyond excited! Now, lets really get down and dirty and get some planning done for the next few weeks!

Pre-Planing Party: I will like to have a pre-planning party sometime during the next week. Lets try and accomplish a few dates to meet up again as well as shot ideas to each other if you are still having issues deciding on what to write! From the initial email I sent out many are from the UT area or the Turkey Creek area. I am available any time mainly in the late afternoon/evening. I have never been to the UT campus but main have mentioned that the library is usually open to groups.

Kick-Off Party: NaNo this year starts on a Sunday with Halloween on Saturday. I know that it is a hard time of day on Halloween with all the events, so we can do a pre-kick off type of thing!

Let me know your thoughts!

Hi! I can't wait to get started! I actually live in north Knoxville but I'm a UT student and I don't mind driving out to Turkey Creek.

As for campus, one thing I can tell you is parking sucks!!! They're ticketing like crazy this year. Hodges is roomy and has a Starbucks in it (plus!!) But people will have to figure out where to park; namely, somewhere on the strip that doesn't tow or ticket.

If there is a smaller group that ever wants to get together, I will be doing lots of writing in the Pendergrass Ag-Vet library. There is a C/N/S parking lot next to it if you have a pass, and if you don't, there is 2 hour guest parking for the gardens. The only drawback is it's only open until 9-10 pm.

As for the kick-off party I'm up for anything that's not outrageously expensive!

When it comes to places to meet, it's hard to beat Panera. There's lots of room, cheap coffee (woo!) and free webernets. I do a lot of studying there when I'm not having my soul consumed by work and school.

I'm at UT, and can't get myself out much farther than that because I get completely lost out west, but can probably bum a ride off someone (or suck it up and just try and figure out where I'm going, whichever) They don't ticket in staff lots after 6, though - at least, not if the crowd in the parking lot outside Hess is any indication. (has that changed? They didn't ticket over the weekends in the summer, either)

Basically anything is good for me, and good luck with setting everything up!

Hey, UT student here. It's true about the ticketing after 6. They won't get you on weekends either. It hasn't changed.

If we're meeting sometime next week, my vote is for some evening, preferably not Monday or Wednesday because I already have plans for those nights; however, I understand if it has to be one of those nights. Again, I agree about UT parking; they don't ticket that late, and generally speaking, you can find parking near Hodges if you don't mind venturing a little off the beaten path. I will warn that groups will most likely be meeting for group projects in the library, so we might have a bit of competition for space.

As with what Shinsa said, Panera is a great place to meet up, especially at nights. I wouldn't suggest the Cumberland Panera, but most of the others in town would be a great spot to meet. Depending on how many people want to come, we could also meet at Starbucks, but again, I wouldn't suggest the Cumberland one. The only reason for that is the limited parking, though, so we could always find ways around that.

My best bet is either the Starbucks/Panera in Turkey Creek or over on Kingston Pike, just down from the UT campus area. (If you don't know which one I'm referring to, it's the Starbucks in the Kroger shopping center and the Panera just across the street. It's not that far from campus and hard to miss if you drive down Kingston Pike.)

Anyone have any other suggestions? I can meet Tuesdays or Thursdays after 4 p.m., so I'm open to a lot of different things. I look forward to it!

Tuesday. Or Thursday would be better days for me as well. After 5. I know both locations. Seeing that there is generally more seating at panera that might be a good place to start

I'd love to be a part of this year's party! However, it'd be monumentally more convenient for me to do it at Turkey Creek rather than campus. Just putting that out there.

Turkey Creek and the one near North Peters are just more convenient in general. They have better parking and less traffic. It may just be my imagination, but they seem bigger as well. They can be a bit noisy/crowded at times, but that's to be expected. It's a pretty popular spot.

Hey, the rare East Knoxvillian (Knoxvillite?) chiming in! I'm pretty open to anywhere, Turkey Creek or campus. I'm available Thursday or Sunday nights for a kick-off/write-in/general party. Definitely understand if that's not do-able for the majority.
Hoping to be able to catch a few events this round!

Depending on how we want to manage it, I'm sure we could carpool some of the UT kids who don't want to try to navigate West Knoxville if we decide to go there. And once again, Shinsa has a good point... those two Paneras would probably be prime spots for at least a planning party.

I probably wouldn't have a problem carpooling some of the UT people as long as I get some advance notice and can come up with a central meeting spot. My vote goes with Tuesday evening for a planning party.

What about everyone else?

Here are Panera Bread locations:

11361 Parkside Drive, Knoxville, (Turkey Creek)

205 North Peters Road, Knoxville, 37923

4855 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, 37919

2000 Cumberland Avenue, Knoxville, 37916 (UT Campus area)

Lets think about what appears to be most central and think about the parking.

Tuesday is looking to be the better day for most as well, which if we can get a pre-planning party together for this Tuesday 6th?

The only one I'm really against is the Cumberland Panera. Like others have pointed out, parking is awful. If we do a Tuesday/Thursday evening, I work in Bearden until 6ish, so the Kingston Pike one is probably the only one I could make unless we do it after 7. Any other day, I can drive out to Cedar Bluff or Turkey Creek :)

Hey guys. Good to see some familiar faces. :)

As long as it's not Wednesday or Friday night, I should be good to go. I'm a UT commuter so if someone needs a ride, I may be able to throw you in the back of my Acura.

If you guys make it Saturday, I might be able to bring along my roommate, who is a fellow Nanowrimer. :)

After 6 would be best for me as well, mainly because I hate feeling rushed and then being late!

I don't get out of class until six myself. At this point it's looking like either tuesday or thursday will work best for everyone, and as far as being centrally located, I thing the North Peters location is going to be the best we can get.

After six works for me as well... I think that would be a good time to get things started. Perhaps if we meet at 7 like someone else suggested?

And the North Peters location would probably work best. (I keep agreeing with Shinsa!)

Yay! Something I may be able to go to! Location wise, anyways. Though if I am able to come, I will be late and so was wondering, is there a set time for this event to end other than Panera closing?

I am going to be letting Panera know that we will be there from 7-9 pm and then we can hang out longer if need be. I figured that was a good time frame....

Hi All
I have a crazy schedule and I work that night, so I'm not going to be able to make it. Have a great time! Can somebody take some notes or something for me so I know what I missed?

I'm game for any of the locations, though I'd prefer not to have to traverse Cumberland. My attendance is, however, entirely based on how well my ongoing battle against the flu goes. (Right now I am losing.) Looking forward to my second year!

This sounds fun, however, I have something I need to attend beforehand and I'm not sure how long it will run. I'm going to try to stop by afterwards. It sounds like this kick off party might last a couple of hours anyway, maybe?? Is late better than never?

I'll be at Panera tonight. Not sure if I'll be able to make the kick-off party, though. Got some plans in the works for Halloween night already; but nothing concrete yet. Can't wait to meet you guys!

On a random note, I was curious as to how we're going to recognize one another... I already mentioned this to Sara, but if anyone wants to know, I plan to be wearing a black pinstripe hat with a white button-down and nice blue jeans. That way you can flag down the confused, lost-looking girl who's wandering around Panera at 7 p.m. peering at tables like she hasn't a clue what's going on...

If I change my mind on what I'm wearing, I'll let everyone know, but it's not likely. I look forward to seeing everyone there! And I'll definitely be taking notes, but I'm also sure Sara will be putting together a calendar, so everyone will definitely know when the write-ins and whatnot are going to be.

Hi,

I won't be able to make it tonight, but I'm really looking forward to hanging out with all of you. I hope you have a great time. Please post the plans. I nano - mailed Sara, but in case you look on here for possible meeting times. I'm available most evenings (with the exception of Wednesday's and Friday's). I'm also available on most Sunday's after noon.

Okay, I am at Panera! Decided to get here extra early becasue I am horrible at getting lost and feared that I would be late! Will be taking and using the next hour or so outlining for my novel. Had a new idea come to me while driving, so now I have no clue what I want to write about!

I have a Toshiba laptop and will have a color NaNoWriMo picture from a previous year. I am sitting in the very far right front of the building. Facing the door, freezing in a brown winnie the pooh jacket, short brown hair!
