Hi guys!

This is my second year being in RVA for Nano, and I would love some write-ins this year. I kept reading about how much fun everybody on the Southside was having at their write-ins and I can think fondly back to when I was in Florida and had them twice a week... Unfortunately I can't make it to the Southside because of work (I have to carpool), but I would love to set some up in the West End.

I work at Books-A-Million on Broad St, and we _can_ have them there but just warning you that there is no internet and like, one measly plug for power over in the cafe (we haven't been renovated yet). Otherwise there are a ton of great places nobody really thinks of, like Qdoba - they have outlets and don't care if you sit there all day if you've bought something. I actually used to go to Borders all the time in Florida, their drinks in the cafe are pretty good and it can be nice and quiet. I don't really have a preference to where we can go but I would really really like to see some set up for the beginning of the month and then be able to work out somewhere/time that works out for the rest of the month...

Well thanks!

Hello there,

Setting up write-ins on the west end would be great. I'll be keeping track of when they are and see if I can join one or two of them. I'm trying to work up a schedule of write-ins I'm willing to host on the Southside as well as downtown near VCU.

If you need any help setting it up, let me know, and I'll see what I can do to help. 804-239-5435

It's an adventure, but well worth the time. Write-ins can be very rewarding.

Write on,

SammyD

Hi, I'm a grad student at VCU and living in the West End, and I would LOVE to have some write-ins out here. Let me know if you need any help organizing or scouting locations or things like that.

The first meeting to WriteClubRVA was tonight. We met at Capital Ale House in the West End. You can check out future meetings through Twitter @writeclubrva or at the website http://writeclubrva.com/. We had 17 for our first meeting and I think we're going to grow from there. A few of us are going to try this NaNo thing and see what happens.

Getting together in the West End would be great. I live near the intersection of Parham and Broad St. so Books-A-Million, Qdoba, and Borders are all great locations for me. I'm a stay-at-home-mom and my husband works from home, so just about any time will work for me (although evenings are easiest).

It would be awesome if we could get some write-ins done in the west end. I'm a new college grad, live in the west end, and don't really have the money to drive all the way out to southside. There are two Capital Ales in the West End if you're looking at that kind of atmosphere. I just think it would be great to actually experience a write-in or two, since I've been doing this for four years and have yet to go to one!

I live out off Staples Mill, so I'll be at any sort of write-in that happens. I don't know about Capital Ale House for meet-ups though, it tends to be rather loud, it lacks power for those who bring laptops, and its a bit rich for my poor college blood. Any of the cafes, bookstores, etc around will work for me though.

I agree that Capital Ale House is kinda pricey for us poor people... So...

How about we figure out a time for the first West End meeting? I can "host" it at Books A Million, I'll bring a power strip so we can all plug in.

What times are good for everyone? I work there (at BAMM) until 5:30 M-F (typically). So right after would be fine, or around 7? Any day is good for me, so lets have a vote. Saturdays would probably be a bad idea, at least during the day... We have Yu-Gi-Oh people there all day and they're just a big PITA and I don't want to mess with them.

So.. Thursday? Wednesday? Thankfully I have a DVR so I don't have to worry about missing anything, lol.

Also, if any of you guys want to email me directly, it's starcastic at gmail. Lemme know! I'm excited!

I think the Books-a-Million sounds great, since we'll have a power strip to make the laptop situation work. :D

I can come any day except Thursday, since I have class that night. But Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays work best for me, if any of those nights are good for everyone else. I think starting at 5:30 sounds like a good time, too.

hmm I"ve never done a write-in before, it sounds fun! books-a-million seems perfect. I live in the West End, almost to Short Pump and can only make it on the weekends, but this sounds great.

How about we start it off on the 2nd? I can almost guarantee I work that day, and I'll bring goodies and everything. Why don't we start at 6pm though, give me a bit of time to set up and make sure we have enough room for.. 5 people? Can I get a raise of hands to who can come?

Okay, so I got that second job I interviewed for... And it starts on the 2nd. So... We can move it to the 1st, 3rd, or 4th, I can figure it out (prolly not the first because of the kick off, but I might not be able to go anyways since it's so far away...).

I'm brand new to Nano and I live in the West End. How long do write-ins last? BAM, Borders all good for me. What about Panera's on Broad? They have free wifi I think. Not sure about power outlets. Week nights are best for me after 6, but I can probably do Sun. depending what I have going on. I might try to hit the kick-off party despite it being all the way on Southside ;-)

I vote for the 3rd, if that works. But I can come either the 3rd or the 4th!

Okay, I'm really up for either, I just start my new job on the 2nd and don't know if I'll have to work the 3rd. I would say yes, so the 4th would be a lot better, but that really depends on everyone else too...

My only issue with going to Panera is that they don't like you to stay for a long amount of time and if you don't buy anything, they WILL kick you out. Also: free 'net is nice, but completely unproductive to write-ins.

I think we should start off at BAMM and we can all meet up in a nice atmosphere and talk about it then. I'll bring goodies :D

So, the 3rd or 4th? 5:30 or 6?

Hi!

I think its great that everyone seems so excited about this! Its my first time actually doing it, though I've been talking about doing it for god knows how long.

I'm down for the 4th, though I work till 5 so if we can lean towards 6 that would be awesome. The 3rd I work until 6:30...so I probably won't make a write in meet and greet then.

Books a Million makes sense to me, at least for a first time, and then we can discuss other options. :-D Let me know what is decided either through here or at evelynpratt (at) gmail (dot) com.

Is anyone else going to the kick off party???

We need to actually pick a day for next week. It looks like Thursdays are best? Yes?

I'm all for the 5th, I can be all set up by 5:30 or 6, whenever's good.

Vote?

Ok I think that's a good vote.

So the first West End write in will be:

Books A Million
8093 W Broad
Intersection of Broad and Parham, Westland Shopping Center
6pm Thursday, November 5th, 2009

I will be wearing my 2008 Nano shirt (the brown one), and will hopefully be typing away at a table in the cafe. See you soon!

Darn it! Thursday is the only day I can't come!

Anybody up for a second write-in? Two weekly write-ins are better than one, right? :)

Yeah, I can't do Tuesdays or Thursdays, and most Saturdays. Any ideas for the second one? People had mentioned Panera, maybe there either the 4th or 6th for people who can't make Thursday? (or who just feel like two in one week?)

Hi,
My daughter and I are trying the NaNoWriMo for the first time this year and we would love to meet with other folks that are participating. We are open to any day this week except Wednesday or Thursday. She is 12 does anyone else know of young writers trying NaNoWriMo?
