Welcome, Philadelphia!
Here's where we take a minute to introduce ourselves, get to know one another a bit.
I'm Elisha, and I'm going to be one of your MLs this year. I'm in West Philly. This is my fifth year doing NaNo, second as ML, first as ML in Philadelphia.
Looking forward to this November, and to seeing all of you at the Kick Off and write-ins!

I'm Kate.
I'm keeping my region as Philadelphia because even though I presently do not reside within city limits, have no other particularly applicable region to join, and I like to think of myself as living there :)
I'm 22, fifth Nano, won the first 4, etc etc. Graduated in May. Apparently unemployable. :)

Hi! I'm Linda, 25, and currently residing in the 'burbs of Philly!!
I've attempted NaNo many times, but always lost steam halfway through and never quite made it to 50k! I always blamed work as my reason....
This year, I got laid off at the beginning of summer and currently work part-time. I guess I have more time, so I'll give it a try again!! Maybe I'll even get a chance to show up at a write-in and meet other Philly NaNo-ers!! Can't wait!

Greetings, Folks!
----------My name is Jeff, a 50 year cubicle dweller from West Philly who's always nursed delusions of being the next great writer, though that's yet to happen. So I've decided to jump into the deep end of the pool with NaNoWriMo as this will be my very first try. I figure I'll either find tremendous glory or make a complete dope of myself. In any event, I'm looking forward to this as it figures to be a whole lot of fun! Can't wait either!
I write, therefore, I have fun! ^_^

howdy, all. i'm mike. aged about as long as a good scotch or balsamic vinegar. recently transplanted from chestnut hill, which i could barely afford, out to the main line, which i actually can't afford. won last year in my first try, but i'm hoping to end up with something readable this year. you'll likely find me gently mocking people in lit fic and elsewhere.
for the record, i'm directly across the street from the borders in rosemont (putting the "b" in "subtlety" here).

Hiya!
I'm Scarlett, student of Environmental Science and Acting at Bucks County Community College. This is my fourth NaNo, and hopefully my second NaNo win!
I am DETERMINED to attend some events this year, so maybe I'll see you guys at some point :)
And now for the long, grueling month of waiting... and attempting to work ahead in my classes (and probably failing miserably).
Nice to meet you all!

Hi guys!
I'm Katie. 21, and this is only my second NaNo! I'm currently an English (writing) / Marketing major at Saint Joseph's University and it's my senior year. I live in Manayunk with two roommates. This November is going to be a mess for me, trying to get everything done, but I'm determined to win! Would love to have some group get-togethers this year to get some writing done. :)

Hi! I'm Beth, I'm an English major on the mainline. I'm thesis-izing and already need a distraction, so I'm hoping to pull off NaNo. I've tried twice before but about 2 weeks in I decided I hated my story...I'm hoping with a bit of pre-planning I'll make it work this time. I can't wait until November!

Scott here, following a skein of mad thoughts toward completion. I'm in Springfield-DelCo near the Borders Books on Baltimore Pike. I look forward to meeting out here or deep in the heart of Center City. This is my first real attempt at NaNoWriMo; I dabbled with it back around 2004 while I was distracting myself from a Master's project.
I'm a work-from-home guy trying to figure out how to make my day job (sitting at a computer and typing most of the day) look different from writing a novel (sitting at a computer and typing most of the night). I suppose new venues will be a must. And they are different computers, so that's something.
I'll be using Scrivener and my trusty PowerBook G4 to do the heavy lifting, Chock Full o'Nuts for caffeine, Panang Curry for sustenance and peanut m&m's to battle anxiety.
Well, the curry sounded good, but realistically I'll be noshing on what ever is on-sale in the frozen food department. While tempting, the 1000+ calorie chicken pot pie from Marie Callender will do more to put one to sleep than to increase one's flow.
Looking forward to supporting and being supported!

I'm Sonja, 20 years old, live in Delaware County and commute four days a week into Philadelphia for school. (Any fellow Temple students?) Since I'm a dirty commuter, I don't really know anyone in the city, so I'm going to try to go to some events this year.

Hi,
I'm Art. I'm 62 and live not far from Rittenhouse square in center city. This will be my 4th Nanowrimo. If I win this year, I will be two for two. However, I've never finished a story so I think, that will be the victory regardless of count. Maybe I will write the first and last chapters, then go from there filling in for the count. I still don't have an idea...so I guess I'd better get at it. I am considering a piece of Fanfic since J. K. Rowling left me with many questions about some characters beyond the trio. I haven't made any of the meet ups but would enjoy doing that. I am using Dragon Naturally speaking again this year. Good thing since I'm fighting a pinched nerve that makes my fingers go numb after typing awhile.

Howdy, all!
My name is Shannon. I live in Chester County. I used to go to school in the Wilkes-Barre area, but I'm currently on a break, and am hoping to finish my degree (English) soon locally. In the mean time, I have sold my soul to Target, and am giving NaNoWriMo another shot because, working retail, I need anything and everything creative to help me survive.
I'm doing historical fantasy this year :D

Hi! I'm Calla. this will be my third Nano. I just had a baby in September, so i'm just hoping for plenty of time and enough sanity to complete this year's novel. Also I won't be able to make any write-in's unfortunately since i'm attached to the child, but there's always next year.

Hi! I'm John and during the day (and most of the night and weekends) I am a Dean at a local University just outside of Philadelphia. This is my fourth year participating and won in 2006 and 2007 as a professor (in a boring subject like biology that has nothing to do with creative writing). Last year I had what i thought was a great idea for a novel but ran into some important issues at work that disrupted my focus. This year I took a serious promotion, have significantly more responsibiltiies at work, and family obligations at home, so the only logical thing is to start and FINISH a novel.
I am going to revise the topic from last year which is a futuristic view of what could (in a relateively insane and extreme way) happen to society with the implementation of universal health care. Needless to say this involves cloning, religion, ethics, subterfuge, and corruption... It definately couldn't happen, or at least probably not, unless...

Hey everyone,
I'm Abigail. I'm 25 and this is my second time participating and I won last year. I'm a grad student living in West Philly. This year will be interesting for me as I'm currently getting an MFA in craftive writing and I'm doing this on top of all my other writing homewhork. However I'm pleased to note that last year's nano is currently my grad school thesis.
I didn't attend any events last year, but I'm going to try to change that this year.

Hello all,
I'm April, and I'm brand-spanking new to the Philly area, living on the Main Line while commuting to West Chester University as a Public Health student. This'll be my first year actually participating, though I joined the site with those intentions awhile ago, I never got around to it. Hopefully I'll be able to attend at least one event--maybe we Main Liners can put one of our own together (all welcome of course)? I'm trying to get my roommate on board with Nanowrimo so we can kick eachothers' butts into action, but I doubt she'll end up participating. Oh well.
Looking forward to getting to know you and your stories!

April, welcome aboard!
----------We should have a good idea of write-ins by the end of the week. I should tell you, though, that I was a student on the Main Line myself a few years ago, and there are so many writers out that way that I'm planning to have at least one write in there for sure.

----------Hi Scarlett,
Biology is great, but i don't find many people that understand the left brain/right brain creativity in the sciences. I am hoping to set my project this year far enough in the future. My novel in 2007 was based on a flu pandemic and I was revising it this past spring when things got interesting... and pretty close to the start of what I wrote... of course society hasn't broken down completely... yet...

My name is Nicole, this is my 3rd NaNo. I'm living it up in Monto. Though I've been to write ins in Montgomeryville, and Devon.
I'm also close to Bucks county, so I've got them as my second region as well.
I am known to hit up the Barnes and Noble in Devon (though it's called the Valley Forge BN) on Friday nights. Last year I went to the Panera Bread in Montgomeryville.
I'll be around the area at write ins or just sitting around there myself writing.
I tend to not go into the city just cause it costs an arm and a leg for parking, but if we met somewhere near Market East Station I'd be willing to take the train in some weekend.
I'm 27 years old, and I love to read, write, take pictures, and travel.
Any other questions just ask me, I'm pretty much an open book.

When in doubt send your character's shopping...they can drop the perfume, try out 18 outfits...put thirty things in the cart and take twenty back out again. That scene alone is almost enough for a days writing. For nanowrimo the key word is glue...not clue. Just keep gluing things to your story. Some will be good or could be and others well...that is what the December edit is for. If you don't know what your story is about; writing any scene will do. Choose any prompt...what if they went to a funeral and the person hadn't died? See how your characters act. And don't worry it isn't Hemmingway. I wouldn't show any of my nano's to my closest friend...but I lost the first two years because I insisted on trying to come up with a usable (read that, 'could get publishable') story. When I let go and forced myself to think of a scene even if I didn't know where I was going, I got across the line. Strangely, I like what I wrote (or at least a little of it) a whole lot better than my more careful efforts. Hope that helps. I quit after the first several days my first year because I couldn't think where to go after my first couple of scenes. This year, I have some writing prompt books...for those...oh God...what comes next...moments. Hope you find this note encouraging and not preachy. This year I'm doing a fan fic and will have a lot of unrelated scenes because I trying to resolve what happened to J. K. Rowling's characters between the end of her last book and her epilogue. This is for me, just for me. I want to see Delores Umbridge get hers and so she shall!!!!!
