Welcome to any new folks joining us and welcome back to all of our hard core returning members!

For those that don't know me, I'm Walker, and I'm the ML for the Dayton area. This is my fourth year as ML in Dayton. I will be joined by a couple of co-ML's to help with events through the month. I'll introduce them as they become active. We have an exciting and fun filled November ahead of us. If I seem slightly distracted this year, I apologize. I'm finishing up my PhD Dissertation, which is due the first week of November! So I get to essentially do two nano's back to back!

The Kick off party is scheduled for the 1st of November. I'll have more details in a week or two on it. It will be at the same clubhouse in beavercreek that it was last year. We're going to try and have a schedule like last year, where there is a location picked every night of the month for those that wish to meet up with fellow nano's.

An event is currently scheduled for the 2nd of November at Dayton Main Library as well. I'll let EstelleChauvelin give yall more details on that.

I'm also working on another shirt design. Last year we had "Be nice to me or I'll put you in my novel...". If anyone has any ideas or if you wish to keep the same design, please let me know your opinions. It will have the DANG'09 Logo on the front. For those joining us, we decided last year to go with Dayton Area Nano Group (DANG). So just tell your significant other that you have another DANG meeting! :)

Again, welcome back!

I am back as well. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing this year. I'm definitely at a different place in my life. Not sure how conductive it will be to doing NaNo this year, but I will give it a shot at the very least.

Gosh, and I thought this year, I'd finally be able to drive and finally attend Dayton write-ins and whatnot.
Can't drive yet, but I hope to see you all a time or two, at least. =]

Oh man, Walker are you planning to get any sleep the rest of this year?

Anyway, "Hi!" to everybody. I'm back and I survived the past year. I am also planning to finish this year's novel which is yet untitled. Okay, I also planned to finish last year but was overtaken by events.

I'm looking forward to cheering on the over 50s again this year. So if you are a new Dayton NaNo who is "over 50" (there is a bit of elastic in the definition), or you didn't reveal yourself last year, be sure to send a buddy request so I know who you are.

Hello everyone! I'm a total newbie this year. First novel, first NaNo. I'm glad to see a local active group. I hope I can participate in some of the fun!

Welcome back all. And welcome BackLitLeo... you'll find we're more active than some nano groups! We typically have a location picked for just about every night of the month. I'm working on getting that together this month. It will be up before November, and we'll have handouts at the Kick off. Just remember, you aren't required to come to any! I've had some people think that in the past, so want to be clear. As we get closer, we'll be posting more info as well. Welcome!

Is it just me or did the site do a ton better this year?

Yeah, I think it did much better. I only had trouble for about an hour to sign up for this year (temporarily forgetting which of my dozen or so passwords I used last year notwithstanding) then after that I didn't have any trouble loading or getting in!

I'm really looking forward to the kickoff party. Will it be potluck again?

I'm really looking forward to participating in Nano this year!

It's the first year in the previous 3 I've attempted that I (thus far) don't have some sort of major interference into my schedule, so hopefully I'll get more than 13k words in!

So, now that it's the second week of October, has everyone decided on a story to write? Have you started an outline?

My story is a diary of a 15-year-old girl who gets stuck out in the wilderness with her family when they go camping and WWIII breaks out. So far I've named all the principal characters as well as people the young diarist mentions and put them on paper.

Alexis,
As for me, I have good intentions every year of creating characters and outlining the story.
In reality, I will probably be thinking about it on October 31 (two years ago it was late afternoon Nov. 1) and just let things flow. Your story sounds interesting. Wish I had thought of it.

Oh, what the heck. I'm in. I haven't done this since 2005, but I need something to shake me up a little. If nothing else, it's an excuse to get out of the house sometimes!

My Story?

Actually, it's one I started ten years ago. I built a world, characters, backstories, everything.

Then, through a series of unfortunate events I lost all of it. Every scrap. The world. The maps. The countries. Everything. So I set i aside, told my characters they had to wait, and tried to forget about it. Only I have never forgotten about it. I just made excuses about rebuilding the world. So much work it took... ah!

Anyhow, they've been yammering louder than usual this year, so I'm back into the world building process. I can't really say I know what it's about. I don't know what it's about. I just know I have these three characters who are demanding to be heard. So, there ya go.

When I know, you'll know!

Okay, well, I already did my plotting in August/September, thoroughly, and now I'm in my period where I'm taking a break so it's fresh and exciting on the first.

My novel is a sci-fi romance (like all my other Nanonovels before it), that takes place in a compound for teen superheroes, located in a rock formation in New Mexico.
I have a really long summary to give, but I don't want to think about it again! Not until the 31st, I must not!

First timer here too. I'm excited about the get-togethers. I've lacked motivation lately and thought Nano might be a good way to force those creative juices to flow and to just get back into the swing of writing daily.

I've got a plot and characters, and I'm raring to go.

This is my first time doing NaNo and I am unbelievably excited. I love writing and someone mentioned this to me and I can't resist. I'm hoping my grades don't fall too much in the month of November.

Hello, everyone! This is my first year doing NaNo too, though I've been telling myself for years I'd look into it. *sheepish grin* I see some of you already have ideas for your novels.. Maybe I'll have one too, who knows? I'm busy almost 60 hours a week between my work study job, and stage managing a production of Eurydice in Springfield, which opens Oct 30th. Soo.. meh. Maybe once rehearsals end, I'll be able to focus on it.

Either way, I'm going to kick myself into action November 1st, pre-planned idea or not!

I'd been holding off on posting here since I'm kind-of-but-not-really doing NaNo this year. But since I'm using the forums and I might come to some of the meetings that aren't too far south I thought I might as well.

I'm a substitute reference associate--which is a reference librarian with just a BA instead of a master's degree--for Greene County Libraries. This is either my third or my fourth year with the DANG group, I forget. Depends on whether the year I moved to Dayton just in time for the TGIO party counts, I guess. I have a story I'm working on now, a modern fantasy that I'm just going to keep working on. I've already got more abandoned half-novels than I know what do with, my goal this year is to actually finish something.

Mysticpenguin, just say you're working on the second novel in a trilogy, if anyone asks. :P

To everyone, Hello, I'm new to the area. I failed attempted NanoWriMo a couple of years ago. Life has conspired to prevent me from trying NanoWriMo the last two years so here's to getting back on the horse. I need to do a ton more outlining before Nov 1st, but I'll be working on a more Hobbitesque fantasy this year. I don't know if there exists a better term for fantasy that isn't Epic Fantasy, Urban Fantasy or so on. But I digress.

Mysticpenguin, when I'm not being a part time reference librarian for Dayton Metro, I'm a substitute reference associate for GCPL, too. (I don't know if it's that they don't do substitute librarians or if it's that I was still working on the MLS when they hired me.) I sub at Beavercreek and Xenia.

I have one story that I meant to do this year and something else (that I can't combine with what I meant to write) that's clawing at my brain to be written. Both of them are fantasies with more swords than sorcery, and I'm really not sure which one is a better bet for NaNo.

Heh, we might have crossed paths. I sub mostly at Xenia and Fairborn and get a day out at Beavercreek once in a blue moon. I think I've seen you around on LJ, too. Aren't you LJ friends with Penny who just moved over to France?

'allo. This is my second year doing NaNo, but the first year I plan on participating in the events. '08's novel attempt was a win, so I'm hoping '09 will go as smoothly (although I'm much less busy this go around, despite the fact this is my first year of college). I've been planning and plotting and character bio-ing since...hmm...probably sometime around May, but I'm just now working on my story's outline. Hope everyone is well and excited about November. :D

Yes, I know Penny. I was trying to figure out why your username sounded familiar.
