Hey!
I was just wondering if there are any other MSU students trying for NaNo this year?? (I'm sure you guys are out there!), if so we should meet on/near campus during November!

I'm a grad student at MSU! I'm working on a Ph.D. in Linguistics and I TA for an IAH course. I spend far too much time in Wells Hall, with frequent trips to the International Center for caffeine.

Hullo! I'm at MSU, but I generally meet at Gone Wired with the rest of the NaNo group.

Freshman here. I mostly stick to my hall but only because so do my buddies. I would love to do a meet up on campus. I'm transportationless really so I don't really like going into Lansing.

Hey all... I'm a graduate assistant athletic trainer at MSU and would enjoy meeting up with everyone sometime

I'm a senior in advertising and creative writing here. I wouldn't mind meeting in the Union, Library or Starbucks or something.

We will be having write ins at Gone Wired Cafe on Michigan Avenue.
Other locations will be considered- but one of the problems we have run into in the past is having enough space for everyone that wants to show up. Biggby's and Starbucks were considered, and we had to dismiss them as there simply isn't enough room for all of us.

Hi,
I'm not from State, but my husband attended, and my two sons (wasn't that a sit com in the 60s?) graduated from State -- does that count??? And I'm a diehard fan!

I'll be driving down from Mt. Pleasant so I wouldn't mind picking up and dropping off people that need transportation to GW. Puts me closer to the highway junction I need to get back, anyway.

Well if anyone wants to get on campus weekly write-ins going, I'd be down. We'd have to do it at another time besides Thursdays though, for those who want to go to Gone Wired for the regional write in.
Any preferences on time, day, or location?

I don't go to State, but I live in the area and I'd love to meet up on/near campus. I'm also looking at grad programs at MSU, so I might count as a potential student!

I go to State as well, although I'm a graduate student and live off campus. But it is just a 10 minute bus ride in!
Hey cjtremlett! We're pretty much neighbors! My department is in Erickson, so I pretty much live on the other side of the International Center. We're special, though, a get our own coffee shop in the building! No long trips to the International Center for us!

Yup! Third year anthro major reporting for duty~
I have no clue what I'm doing for NaNo but it looks incredibly fun! A meet up sometime in November with fellow students would be great :)

I'm a first year student, but I live off campus. I'd love to meet people on campus, though. The bus ride isn't that bad.

My daughter is in her second year at Michigan State...she commutes as well! She's pre-vet tho, and while she enjoys creative writing...that is not her focus. However, she needs to meet more people too. Perhaps I can arrange something for the two of you?

The write-ins at Gone Wired (downtown Lansing) are on Thursday evenings, and I can't do Tuesday evenings either because of orchestra, but I'm free all the other days of the week. (Friday's the exception, since I tend to go home every other week.) Does anyone else have any preferences?
Starbucks is usually really cramped. They don't have a lot of space, and I always get the impression that it's not very clean, though I've never actually seen it messy/dirty. I guess it's the lighting. There's a Barnes and Noble right next to it (on Grand River) with its own Starbucks, though -- I believe they close at 10 pm on weekdays. The Union wouldn't be a bad idea. The library would work, too. The International Center wouldn't be too bad if we only had a few people. I guess it all depends on how loud we're planning to be. xD

If you're doing the library, the cyber cafe is the obvious choice, since they don't get too worked up about people being loud there.

I'm good with anywhere that has coffee. xD

There's always the 24 hour Beaners...er, Biggby on Grand River. Is a tad small, but still good coffee.

Biggby only works for rather small write-ins (read: less than 4-5). In the past we have considered trying it out there, but have dismissed the idea since that don't seem like they are set up to handle groups of our size.
Unless, of course, they've changed their layout in the last year or so...

I'm a 4th year Psychology and Religious Studies student! Been thinking about nanowrimo for a while but never had the guts to sign up until this year. I work at one of the Biggby locations a few minutes off campus. I think I might be able to get ahold of large amounts of discounted coffee. of course that would only apply for non-coffee shop meet-ups...wouldn't want to offend Starbucks or Gone Wired. :)

That works good for me. How about I throw out a place and time and we can all 'haggle out' a time and location that works for all/most everyone.
How about Mondays from 8pm-??? at the MSU Union. There should be space for a good amount of people in the lounge, ability to talk without bothering those studying, with coffee/snack options in the building, all at a fairly centralized location on campus. Thoughts/better ideas?

If there's a consensus on time and location we can add it to the calendar in case any others who aren't reading the thread wish to join you.

There doesn't seem to be a consensus yet! Actually, it looks like everyone has vanished. D:
I'm not sure where the lounge at the Union is -- I don't go there very often. If you enter the building from the front (near where the bus drops you off), is it just the first big "room"/space on the left? Do they allow food/drinks there?
In any case, I probably won't be able to make it today, but I am free Wednesday evening. I'm thinking if we can get enough people, I'll just pop by the Union on Monday and Wednesday evenings and see who shows up.

I'm new to MSU (though considered a Senior), the state entirely, and NaNoWriMo. I would love to meet up! I have yet to make any friends here (live off campus), so I'm hoping this will be a good way to do so.
Please let me know if we make this an actual meeting time on Monday :)
