The utterly amazing crowling (also known as the author T. A. Moore) has arranged a series of readings and Q&As with local authors during November, to be held at the Lock Keeper's Cottage coffee shop in Castlereagh.

Thursday 5th November, 5.30pm - 7.00pm - T.A Moore and Gerard Brennan
Thursday 12th November, 5.30pm - 7.00pm - Stuart Neville
Thursday 19th November, 5.30pm - 7.00pm - Annie McCartney
Thursday 26th November, 5.30pm - 7.00pm - Ian McDonald

Each of these author-ful events will be followed by a NaNoWriMo write-in from 7pm onwards.

Please do come along if you can possibly make it!

I'll post up some driving & public transport directions soon (or maybe crowling can, since I'm not that sure myself).

T.A Moore! That's me!

I'd be delighted to see you all at these literary events. The Lock-Keepers Inn serves AMAZING cakes and nice coffee. All the authors are great fun and delighted to take part in these events and support Nanowrimo. I know Annie McCartney and Ian McDonald through my work at the Creative Writers Network and they are very encouraging, very inspiring and good at talking in public. I don't know Stuart Neville myself - although I am to be in an anthology with him next year! - but I have read his work and he's a vivid, enjoyable writer. I'll get Gerard to pop on here and talk a little bit more about him - he knows him better than I do.

There will also be time for a write in after the event - the cafe have said might be able stay open longer than 7 if people are interested - and books available from the featured authors.

If you are going here are the directions:

Head for the Ramada Hotel just after Shaw's Bridge and drive down past the rugby club and turn LEFT into the lower carpark (just before the sign that says 'Pedestrians Only' - because they really mean that.) Park at the very bottom of that car park, head through the fence and head on over the bridge to the Inn.

There will be signs put up on the night and if you need better directions call 02890494566 and ask for the Arts Department!

For anyone traveliing by bus like myself it's the Metro number 8 that services the area.

I found this map useful to finding the area: http://www.ni-environment.gov.uk/events/events-ehod/events-ehod-belfast..... It's advertising a different event but the map is decent.

Disaster has struck (quite literally, although not me directly) and I can't make it tonight - and I promised Josephina and Speculator lifts too, but can't get in touch with them.
If they do make it and anyone sees this - or guys, if you see this later - I'm very very sorry, but will explain all when I see you.

Sorry I can't be there, Tam - you'll have to do the NaNo spiel. Will be there next week.

I made it to the end of Crowling's talk, and it was great! And well done for getting published. Wooooah! Woohoo!

However, the Lock Keeper's Inn is really situated in the middle of nowhere, so here are a few tips for anyone intending to venture there by bus or bike next week for the first time:

Stick to Crowling's instructions (slightly changed by me for those without a car):

Head for the Ramada Hotel just after Shaw's Bridge and WALK down past the rugby club and turn LEFT into the lower carpark (just before the sign that says 'Pedestrians Only' - because they really mean that.) WALK/CYCLE TO the very bottom of that car park, head through the fence and head on over the bridge to the Inn.

Yes, definitely do not use the little pedestrian footpath. It's dark, full of leaves and slippery when wet, and you can't see the ground below your feet. Also pretty creepy for those who don't like walking alone in the dark or have a writer's imagination!

Expect to stand in the middle of nowhere when you cross the bridge (after you come out of the car park). It's not very well lit, but walk on, and the only lit building near the old lock keeper cottage is the Lock Keeper's Inn. Even if you think that nobody could possibly hold a meeting there, that's the place! So stride/ride on!

If you find it too creepy or feel lost, wait in the car park until somebody else arrives.

Also, the Metro 8 only goes as far as the roundabout on the Malone Road leading towards Shaw's Bridge. Apparantly the 13 goes at least over the bridge (not quite sure where it goes next, Edenderry, possibly?).

I'd love to attend the one on the 26th with Ian McDonald. I'm finishing his Brasyl, which I absolutely loved, and I'm about to start his Cyberabad Days. If I can't get a lift, I'll try to get there with the bus.

I'll be late for this evening's session, unfortunately (probably there sometime after 6) which means I can't give lifts. I will be there though!

Hoping to go tomorrow night as long as the weather is not too dreadful.

I missed it last week due to traffic problems and I am looking forward to getting a cup of tea at the cafe to warm me up when I get there.

Yes, it really depends on the weather if I can make it tomorrow - and I have been sniffing all day, so if this turns into a cold, then I'll have to stay put! It feels more like an allergy so far, but we'll see.

They do a great hot chocolate with marshmellows - I strongly recommend it :)

Grrrr. Sorry guys, I won't be able to make it there this week either - though thankfully not for anything as drastic as flooding. It's just down to work commitments (which I would happily do without).

There's no way I'm missing next week's though!

Sorry that I won't be able to make it tonight.

The weather is just too awful to do a lot of walking from the bus stop.

Yes, I also had to stay put, since cycling in this weather is quite a no-no! Unless I wanted to swim or fly or both...

It is truly ghastly out there...

On the plus side, I got writing done with the rain pelting against my windows, so yay!

sorry I couldn't make it, I'll make an extra effort next week. Ian McDonald's great, he's a Hugo Award winner (Like George RR Martin) - in fact, I was surprised he didn't pop by at the Moot.

"Good" news - I'm up to 14k. At this rate I might be done by Xmas.
