Hello and Welcome to NaNoWriMo 2009!

I'm Becka, the Charleston, SC region ML. If you have any questions, concerns, laments, or brownies please come see me first (especially if you have brownies...). I can answer most of your questions, and I have the direct line to the NaNo crew if I can't.

I have big plans for this year's NaNo - including many shiney write-ins, parties, and even our own Night Of Writing Dangerously. And once NaNo is over I also head up the NaNoFiYe group - National Novel Finishing Year. So once November is over you can still get your NaNo fix.

For those of you who don't know me, I'm a nuclear chemist with a strange addiction to sticky notes. I talk about a place called Fie Eoin a lot, and I love mythology. So this year's novel is a re-telling of the classic myth of Apollo and Daphne.

What about you? Who are you, and what are you writing this year?

Hi! I'm Chelsy, and I'm a history major at CSU. I'm new to the Charleston area, having grown up in Kentucky, but I've found that I know more of the history (and more of downtown) than people that have lived here much longer. This is my fourth year doing NaNo, and hopefully my fourth win! This year, like the last three years, I'm writing a historical fiction novel. It's set in Chicago in 1901 and 2008/9. The plot is clear in my head but getting it in words is still hard. haha.

I'm looking forward to writing with y'all!

I'm Deborah and I'm also new to the Charleston area. This is my second year of NaNo and I can not wait to get started! Hopefully, I'll be able to come to some of the write-ins this year! My novel is going to be a fiction story if my characters ever clue me in on the plot!! Here's hoping!

Hello,

My name is Carole and this is my first shot at Nanowrmo. I hope I'm not completely out of my mind.

I am reading Chris' book a the moment..No Plot, No Problem. So although I'm bouncing around a couple of plot ideas i haven't got a clue where I'm going.

I just hope my muse doesn't go on vacation during the month of November.

I'm afraid I don't have any brownies...I'm more a soup cook than a baker. How doesTurkey Vegetable sound?

Carole, who moved to Summerville five years ago from Vermont.

I accept most forms of food, so long as they don't have frosting/sugary-goo in or on them. Soups are wonderful. Turkey Veggie sounds very good!

And don't anyone worry about your muses - that's what the write-ins are for! It's amazing what a group of people can do to whip a naughty muse back into shape.

Hello everybody!

My name is Eric and this will be my third Nano after two consecutive wins and I fully plan to keep up the pattern (even if it requires a last ditch 25k sprint on the last weekend like last year). Becka, one of my best friends and co-worker got me into Nano and I haven't looked back. From experience and the lovely bias of friendship I can say that all her big and shiney plans are worth being frantically excited about! Also very excited to meet new Nano write-in comers which is always a lot of fun.

A little about me, I'm a complete history nerd and have a knee-jerk intense curiosity to anything that even smells of the exotic and unfamiliar. I love to casually saunter about the globe when given the chance (last year's novel was born of my trip to Cyprus the preceding October). I'm a proud Mainah transplant to the Charleston area for nearly four years now after having lived in Perth Australia for a couple years. My lifestyle is funded by analyzing radiochemistry data.

My novel this year will be historical fiction about the adventures (and misadventures) of a Berber slave in the dying years of the Almoravid dynasty that ruled much of Islamic Iberia and North Africa told by a modern day Berber, who himself gets caught up in an all too topical misadventure.

Hey all, I'm Kyle. I don't actually live in Charleston any more, but I still come back around here for Nano time to bring back the fond memories of how fun it was, even though I never actually respond to anyone's emails. Sorry.

Like Eric, I also enjoy the benefits of traveling the world...except the funding comes from the Navy, as do the destinations. Currently stationed in Japan, we recently got back from a cruise that included several ports that helped me get a lot of inspiration for this year's novel, which I'll need. We'll be out to sea for most of November, so I'll be handwriting my novel while out. It'll make it tough, since I can't write very fast by hand.

My novel this year is about a man who is trapped in a miserable, dangerous world, trying to find a way back to his own world. He's also got a pretty sadistic second personality that likes stealing control of their body at inconvenient times. I don't really have any details set after that, other than the main characters. I plan on using inspiration from random songs for most of the scenes, actually, and we'll see how that works out.

Kyle - is this based on your "angst" winning scene? If so I want to read it!

And hand-writting a whole book isn't so bad ;) It's typing it up that's horrible.

Eric, you get a gold star for actually getting on and saying Hi when I told you to :P Or a NaNo sticker. We have official stickers this year!

Hello everyone!

This is my third nano but the last 2 I was in Texas so it will be my first here in Summerville or, as I've come to know it, Rainville. I attended the write-ins last year and will gladly join in this year but only if they are the kid friendly ones! (haha) Seeing as I'm still in High School.

I've got tones of ideas for this years novel and really don't know what I'm going to write about yet. (Curse you October! You get my muse all happy and all she does is run around screaming new ideas for me to write about. Err!) I will most likely choose the one I'm planning now about a girl who gets a heart transplant and can see the ghost of the boy who's heart she received. It's got tons of wholes in it already but I'll work them out later, hopefully.

Excitedly anxious,

Isers

Hey all. I'm Amber I tried NaNWriMo last year, but didn't make it. This yearI'm not living at home any more and can hopefully attend some write-ins. I live in Goose Creek, but work in the Citadel mall. So really North Charleston, Summerville, West Ashley, and Goose Creek as well as maybe an improvto at the Berkley campus of Trident. I'm a vet tech student, just started the program this year and am loving it. My novel this year is kind of a telling of my life after horses, but is a mix of fact and fiction. The beginning will be mostly fact, but as you get into it it will become more fiction, to the point that nothing is real.

It is, Becka. That scene is effectively the prologue. Once I actually type it up, I'll be sure and send you it, no matter how terrible it may be.

Sadly, Isers, I didn't make it to any of the San Antonio write-ins so we probably haven't met. However, it's a small world after all, so we might have met through something else. Are either of your parents in the Air Force???

Amber, too cool! I've been thinking about becoming a vet or a vet technician, so maybe I can pick your brains...figuratively speaking of course!!

Hiya! This is my fourth year doing NaNoWriMo, I've lived in Summerville for all of them and yet never been to a write in. I don't drive and have been good not to bother my husband to take me to a write in since he'd just have to pick me up afterwards. Last year I had a local friend who was going to participate but her laptop got stolen in October so she didn't end up doing it.

So I may never see any of you, but I'll be there in spirit!

Hello!

My name is Allison and I'm on my second year of NaNoWriMo I finished last year, and I'm looking forward to doing so again.

I'm originally from California, did NaNo last year in Virginia, and am now moving to Charleston in a week. I'm a navy wife, in case you couldn't guess by the moving schedule. :) Last year I met some of my best friends through NaNo, selfishly, I'm hoping for a repeat.

My story for this year has been kicking around in my head for awhile. It's a fantasy novel set on the sun. Unfortunately, I have yet to come up with a simple reasonable explanation as to how people are able to live on the sun...drat. Will have to work on that.

I'm really excited, I love write-ins, and I'm not working right now with the moving thing, so unless I get a job fast, I'll be around a lot.

Here's to frantically written words and an overflow of imagination!

Ohmywurd here. :) This is my third attempt at NaNoWriMo, although I don't really count the first as an attempt. I say attempt because I have never succeeded. I'm am also in high school, although I am homeschooled online so I'm pretty flexible when it comes to being able to attend write-ins. I work at Wet Seal in Northwoods Mall, what a coincidence, so that would be the only thing keeping me from a write-in if any. Hopefully there will be several in the Goose Creek area or not far from it, because I get lost easily.

As for my novel, I'm considering a few different things. One of them from a dare about getting a care package from your girlfriend in which at the bottom of the pringles can she breaks up with you. I just think that would make for an interesting start, but at present it is all I have. ;) Lets hope something comes to me before November.

The sun is pretty hot, but maybe if it's not our sun it could be a cool heat? And very bright. Do they wear a lot of sunscreen? Do they all have skin cancer? Maybe they are just energy and not made of anything material. Like the blue guy in Watchmen. That would be cool.

NaNo is a great place to meet good friends :D

Unfortunately it is our sun. I think I'm going for energy beings, or at least just beings that respond to heat and cold differently. It's not major for the plot, just for believability. Musemusemuse.

Hi,
I'm Carla. I work with Eric and Becka, and Eric really peaked my interest with his enthusiasm, and Becka sold me my dryer! I've never done this before, but I excited to try.

I do have this scene in my head from a few years back that comes back to my mind every now and then. So, I guess I'm just going to see where it goes once I start writing.

YAY CARLA! I'm glad you are here and trying! NaNo is always worth a try :) If nothing else you can get that scene out and written and tell it to stop bothering you :P

How's the dryer working, btw?
