2) I'm a University of Florida graduate (GO GATORS!!!) and I work as the afternoon reporter for WOKV.

3) I've been a NaNoWriMo addict since 2006...with zero wins under my belt! :-p BUT THIS IS MY YEAR, BABY!

4) Chick-Lit is my area of interest. :-) But I'd like to write a SMART and FUNNY chick-lit novel.

5) YES, I'd love to meet up with the local NaNoWriMo writers - last year was a blast! :-) Meeting at the Panera Bread on Atlantic & Southside seemed to work well. We should meet at Cami Cakes for a treat on our last week of writing! :-D

6) You can follow me on twitter: Tiff_Griff. Also, I've been living here for about two years now, and I'm still on the look out for fun places around Jacksonville - always happy to hear new ideas. I'm a big live music lover, and will see U2 and AC/DC in concert during the weeks leading up to NaNoWriMo! Oh, and since I love Gator Football, I'll probably be talking about them ALL through November.

1) Name and Hometown

Technically, home for me is upstate NY, but I've been in Florida nearly 10 years and Jacksonville (Southside area) for nearly 4.

2) Job/School?

Oh! How I wish I were still "in" school...as in taking classes, not teaching them. I am an English teacher on the Westside.

3) Number of years you've participated in NaNoWriMo/Number of wins

I have been participating in NaNo since 2004. Last year was the closest I've come to winning at 26,000 words. This is the year I will win. Or else!

4) Genre you'll be writing in

It's a toss between chick lit happy ending romance or Nicholas Sparks meets Stephan King (romance/life sucks/oops! everyone is dead)

5) Would you like to meet-up with other NaNoWriMo writers during November? (If yes, describe where works best for you)

I'd like to, however with my schedule and childcare issues, I often end up not being able to meet at scheduled times. My husband works crazy hours, and my kids would rather not spend hours sitting in a cafe watching me write. That being said, I will try to make any meetings that I can.

6) *WILD CARD QUESTION* Say whatever you want! Like, how did you hear about NaNoWriMo or what would you do if a ninja was following you. ;-)

I am really excited and determined this year so barring a zombie uprising, I will win. I've already told my husband and kids not to expect any attention in November (well, maybe I'll bake a cake for my daughter's birthday, but that's it!).

1) Name and Hometown - Jordan Duncan from Anniston, AL. Relocated to Orange Park when I married my husband who is stationed at NAS JAX.

2) Job/School? Unemployed writer/artist, currently scouting schools in the area, but I used to go to University of Alabama at Birmingham, a sister school of University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. GO BLAZERS! ROLL TIDE!! lol!

3) Number of years you've participated in NaNoWriMo/Number of wins - Never won, hopefully going to change that this year, but I did try in 2007 and 2008. I did win NaPoWriMo which is National Poetry Writing Month where you have to write 30 poems in 30 days. I loved doing that. I'm more of a poet and a novelist anyway but I love writing fiction sometimes. I have a lot of ideas.

4) Genre you'll be writing in - I guess mainstream fiction.

5) Would you like to meet-up with other NaNoWriMo writers during November? (If yes, describe where works best for you) Um. I guess. I hardly know anyone in the area. I'd probably get my hubby to tagalong with me. I don't know my way around here very well at all and I get lost easily, so when I'm not driving somewhere that's like, 5-10 miles away from my house I usually have a companion. I would love to get to know some fellow writers though. Especially since all my friends around here are all Navy or Navy wives. Not that I don't love them to death, but I need to meet some other people like me. If I were to go to a meet up it would have to be somewhere close enough to where I can drive there myself without a problem. I live on Fleming Island and very near where I live there are lots of restaurants and shops off on 220 and stuff, and I know there's a Starbucks and a bunch of other places. Mellow Mushroom might be a fun place to meet too. There is one here and I think there's one on the beach. Of course, for there we'd have to call ahead and make sure there is a table big enough to fit everyone who decided to come and everyone would need to order food and tip and stuff. But what could be cooler than eating yummy pizza and writing? I can't think of anything. But yeah. That's just my suggestion. I liked the Panera bread suggestion too, but the only one I know how to get to is in Orange Park on Blanding.

6) *WILD CARD QUESTION* Say whatever you want! Like, how did you hear about NaNoWriMo or what would you do if a ninja was following you. ;-)

I heard about NaNo from 43things.com where you list 43 goals that you want to achieve, and A LOT of people had NaNoWriMo and MayNoWriMo on their lists, so I tried MayNoWriMo and NaNoWriMo that year, which was 2007.

If a ninja was following me I probably wouldn't know about it because ninjas are supposed to be silent. But if I did know it I would think, "Wow. That is a really crappy ninja."

1. Brian; I grew up in the Jacksonville area and, over time, realized I have no real desire to leave.

2. UNF grad working in marketing.

3. Last year was my first NaNo, and I was pleased to cross the finish line shortly before the end if the event.

4. Sci-fi/fantasy drawing some elements from "The Tempest" and any Flannery O'Connor and/or noir influence I can shoehorn into this nonsensical combination. (I figure the greater the source material, the easier to reach 50k. This could prove disastrous.)

5. Absolutely. I never would have finished without the group aspect, as my 800-word JulNoWriMo flop proved this summer. I'm flexible with respect to meeting locations; these days I pretty well divide my time between Southside, the beaches area and Orange Park, so I'm used to commuting.

6. Majoring in Communications has left me with a very uncomfortable relationship with the Oxford comma. Sometimes, like a ninja, it slips back in.

1) Name and Hometown
Leslie, and I'm from a small town called Green Cove Springs in Florida. Though I live in Jacksonville now.

2) Job/School?
I'm a full-time student in the Paralegal Program at FCCJ, *hopefully* I'll be graduated with my paralegal degree in May 2010 after the spring semester since I only have an intership and few classes left. Then I'll get my B.A. in English, and study for the LSATs and hopefully get into Law School (I'm think Florida Coastal School of Law as my first choice). So, as you can tell, I have a lot of school ahead of me. I'm in my third year now. This semester I'm taking five classes, and I work at the amc movie theater at the OP Mall on weekends.

3) Number of years you've participated in NaNoWriMo/Number of wins
Last year was my first year and I won.

4) Genre you'll be writing in
I'm writing horror/thriller this year... branching off from what I normally write, which is romance.

5) Would you like to meet-up with other NaNoWriMo writers during November? (If yes, describe where works best for you)
Yes, I'm good to meet up in afternoons during the weekend, or sometimes during the week depending on the time since I do have classes. I'm good with driving pretty much anywhere in Jacksonville as I'm pretty well knowledged with the area having lived here for a little more than a year now.

6) *WILD CARD QUESTION*
I did 8 years of dance growing up, though I haven't danced for two and a half years (since I graduated high school in 2007) because I'm focusing on college. Not to mention I have bad knees from dancing all those years. But I did lyrical, jazz, hiphop, pom (fast with sharp arm movements with poms in hands), high kick, and modern.

1) Name and Hometown
David, currently living in Orange Park

2) Job/School?
Unemployed, Semi-Pro Writer, Hospice Care Worker. Take your pick of one of those unpaid jobs. I'm a Bohemian.

3) Number of years you've participated in NaNoWriMo/Number of wins
2 years, 2 wins. Rewriting the first one, editing the second. Good exercise.

4) Genre you'll be writing in
Dark Satire.

5) Would you like to meet-up with other NaNoWriMo writers during November? (If yes, describe where works best for you)
Sure, somewhere in Orange Park. I don't drive. The Orange Park Mall or along Wells Road would be perfect and a good landmark.

6) *WILD CARD QUESTION* Say whatever you want! Like, how did you hear about NaNoWriMo or what would you do if a ninja was following you. ;-)
Yes. I started NaNoWriMo while I was living in Japan, and just keep doing it because it's fun. I usually write 1000 words a day/5000 a week, but I like being forced to aspire to more.

The name's Sara, or D depending, and I'm originally from Normal Illinois, but I migrated down to Florida some while ago.
I'm technically not jobless--I just don't have one of those typical nine to fives. I consider myself freelance. This'll be my third year of Nano and I picture myself well past immune to the brain shredding frustration that the first year of Nano caused. I've got two wins under the belt and I'm looking for a third. Whoo hoo.
I usually stick to writing horror novels, though I bridge into paranormal sci-fi every once in a while. I don't know yet what this year's Nano will bring in the inspirational sense, I'm not one of those people that plans that far in advance. Hell, I'm lucky to know what day of the week I'm doing what.
Hmm, would I like to meet up with you crazies...hmm...I got it! Let me know when you make a plan that sticks and is transcribed in stone, and I'll let you know if it works for me. Or whatever...I usually follow Drg's cue.

I once had a dream that I was running a hotel for zombies. I had to have them all line up outside so that they could all be counted, weighed, and examined. I kept asking them all sorts of questions--"Do you like being a zombie?" "Do people taste like chicken?" "Can someone get your bags for you?"
The hotel turned out to be a laboratory, a factory where I was trying to uncover a way to reverse whatever it was that made people turn into zombies. I did eventually come up with something, but then one of my body guards took it and ran away with it and made all of my hotel guests pissed off at me so I was forced to run away.
Midway through my uh, travels, I come to this fork in the road. Dead center is this werewolf's head and bits of other parts. It's eyes are just staring at me until I get all frustrated and ask, "What the hell is your problem?!"
Before he answers, I wake up. What luck, huh? Maybe he could have told me the meaning of life. All I know is that dreams are great planting grounds for good ideas.

I am David, I'm a Jacksonville native.

I'm in school taking prerequisite courses for a BSN (nursing) at FSCJ. I am already a certified EMT (state and national) and I have a BA in English from UNF. I'm employed full time at a convenience store, but I volunteer with American Red Cross and I'm in the middle of applying for the Jacksonville Emergency Medical Auxiliary. I'm jumping through bureaucratic hoops to hopefully find a place as a 911 operator for Clay County.

I have participated in Nano three times previously, and won the last two. I'll be winning again this (my fourth) year, I have no doubt about that.

I do not know exactly what I'll be writing about yet. I'll try to break away from the post-apocalyptic future themes I've been dwelling on the last few years and pen something positive or inspirational.

Yes, I'd love to meet other nanoheads. I already know some of them.

I cannot remember how I heard about NaNoWriMo... and I don't believe in ninjas.

1) Name and Hometown
Hey ya'al, I'm Lizzie! I was born on Andrews, AFB Maryland, childhood in DC then moved to Glen St Mary, FL when I was ten. I've lived in the boondocks ever since!
I'd love to have a write-in out here so ya'al can see how us bumpkins do it :P

2) Job/School?
I'm a full-time Crew Trainer at the local Hardee's and in training to be a Shift Leader. After the 1st of the year (maybe sooner if I can get financial aid) I'm going to be taking CNA classes. Yay for self betterment!!

3) Number of years you've participated in NaNoWriMo/Number of wins
This will be my third year, I've had one win (last year) and this is my very first year as your ML!!! I'm so excited for this, you guys. You have NO idea! *does a happy dance*

4) Genre you'll be writing in
Well I'm drastically deviating from my normal course of High Fantasy and going in the opposite direction. w00t for creepy stalker drama/romance/comedy! This is going to be a complete mess, I just know it ^_^

5) Would you like to meet-up with other NaNoWriMo writers during November? (If yes, describe where works best for you)
No. I don't want to meet any of ya'al.

*giggle* Just kidding, of course! I'm hoping to meet most, if not ALL of you this NaNo! I'll probably be running all over Jacksonville. And that's okay!! :D

6) *WILD CARD QUESTION*
I'm the oldest of 12 children. Yes. Twelve. One Dozen. ^_^ I enjoy being in a big family, it's pretty awesomesauce.
I've been writing since I was 6 and haven't been able to stop since.
I'm a total kid at heart, Disney rocks and my clothes sometimes clash because I can't choose what colors to wear
The little Smartcars you see buzzing around? I've got one! I love it to pieces.
My e-mail address and phone number (cell) are always open to you guys. Just note me and I'll be glad to send them to you ^_^

1. Cheryl (Drgnwrtr), hometown - Jacksonville, Fl. BUT, I was born in Brooklyn, New York, lived in Allentown, PA and THEN moved to Jax how and why I stayed is a Jerry Springer week long episode so I won't bore you with the details. I'll just say, I liked it so I stayed.

2. The job the pays my bills, I'm a CAD Operator and a damn good one. I get paid good for what I do. For those that don't know, CAD Operator means I'm a drafter. I've drawn everything from airplanes to toilets to screws. You name it, I've probably drawn it. I'm also a writer, I'm not published yet but I'm working on it. I'm almost finished with editing my third or fourth book to get it to my beta readers. I can't wait to hear what they say about my book. Then its on to the query letter and hopefully publication...

3.This is my third year participating I've won once so far, I intend to win again this year. I was so psyched last year that after I finished at 56K I went on to write another 75K in the final week. Don't believe me, ask D, she was witness to my writing madness. It lasted until April, I think.

4. I'm thinking paranormal something or other. I don't know whether I'm going to finish my 'Hell' series or start on book two of Meg and Belza. It's a toss up, I could also do something completely different, I've been dying to write a good werewolf or vampire novel. I have one I'm working on now that I was going to save but, the characters just keep talking to me so I have to keep writing...

5. Sure, I'd like to meet other nano's. I'd really like to start a critique group if possible. I could meet just about any where, but I live on the west side. I hang out a lot in the Panera's on Rooselvelt Blvd. on Sundays, usually get there around 11 stay til whenever I feel like leaving...

6. I heard about Nanowrimo through one of the Writer's Digest forums. I checked it out and signed up, then I dragged the only writerly friend I had along for the ride. She made it, I didn't. I didn't give up though, I just kept plugging along putting pen to paper and sure enough when nano 08 rolled around, I was more than ready to spew forth the words that would claim my win. I'm still nervous about it this year but I have a plan, just in case the words stop flowing.
I'm a third degree black belt in Songahm Tae Kwon Do, if a ninja was following me it would be because he's hoping to learn my secret techniques for defending myself against run on sentences and dangling participles...

1) Ben and I'm from Skipperville, AL. . .but I'm currently living in Jacksonville on the Westside.

2) I'm a student at FSCJ, currently enrolled for my Bachelors in Business. Although, when I was living in GA, I was a Creative Writing major for three years.

3) I've participated for the past four years, although I've never won. I just got really swept up in school when I was going to college in Georgia. This year, I'm hoping to make things different.

4) Horror. I plan on making a non-stereotypical Zombie novel.

5) I'd love to meet up with my fellow NaNo's. It works best for me by going to the Orange Park mall or somewhere in that area. Mandarin isn't all that bad either.

6) I love writing horror, but I haven't got to write it in years. To brush up for my novel this year I'm reading a whole lot of H.P. Lovecraft. I love his type of horror, and I'm hoping to sort of emulate it in my writing. Also, I love to cook and I used to be a trapeze artist. Oh. . .and I'm 22.

Guy Adkins wrote:
Hello all! .

Here is my contribution to the intro questions:

1) Name and Hometown

Hi, I'm Guy and I was born and raised right here in the River City of Jacksonville. Many people have arrived at Jacksonville from somewhere else and natives seem to be rare.

2) Job/School?

I am currently working for the Jacksonville Public Library as a library associate. An associate does many of the same things as a degreed librarian. If you are ever at the South Mandarin branch, you will probably see me. I am also enrolled at FSU in the Masters of Information and LIbrary Science program. I am currently enrolled for six hours (two classes). I take my courses over the internet. I do hold a degree in Journalism from the University of Tennessee and a law degree from the University of Florida. I am currently inactive as a lawyer while I work at the library (Law Librarian, anyone?)

3) Number of years you've participated in NaNoWriMo/Number of wins

I have been up to the plate the last two years and failed miserably. I get going with a wonderful push, and then, probably because I have tried to write without a plot (the Chris Baty method), I didn't know where to go. So this year I will have a plot. I may use the snowflake method. I do enjoy the challenge and this year, with everyone's help, I will make it to the end.

4) Genre you'll be writing in

I prefer mysteries, but I also enjoy an eclectic mix of works and genres. My recent reading has included Atonement, The Greatest Golfer Who Never Lived, The Shack, Where the Red Fern Grows, The No. 1 Ladies Dective Agency, Scarlett (about Robin Hood), Stories of the West, and Atomic Lobster. So, my guess is I will be writing something that is general fiction with a puzzle to solve, like a little bit of detecting. No little green men from Mars or Vampires.

5) Would you like to meet-up with other NaNoWriMo writers during November? (If yes, describe where works best for you)

I would like to meet some of you in person. My is that I work every other Saturday at the library, my sons are involved in Boy Scouts, there are classes at FSU to deal with and I don't have a lap top for intensive writing sessions. I can go with pen and paper and then type it in. I will try to make at least one get together.

6) *WILD CARD QUESTION* Say whatever you want! Like, how did you hear about NaNoWriMo or what would you do if a ninja was following you. ;-)

When I see midnight on November 30th, I want to see that I have leaped over into the winning column of NaNoWriMo. It is amazing to me that we are all part of an international festival, with friends around the world, imbibing in a spirit that doesn't require drugs or alcohol. If I want to introduce a cigar smoking, hairless kitten who is able to speak fluent Latin, can travel through time and knows where Elvis works flipping hamburgers, that's alright. I can change history, redraw maps of the world, even make Pluto back into a planet while showing Good combating Evil. So, this month I plot. Let me know about all the places, dates and times when the Jacksonville area guys and gals can meet up. I am primed. Let the good times roll.

Hi!!! I'm Ashleigh and I'm from Jacksonville, I've lived here my entire life.

I'm currently attending Douglas Anderson School of the Arts for Creative Writing and I am jobless. =D

This will be my first year participating in NaNoWriMo and I have all intentions of winning.

I'll be writing in generic fiction (but not the cliche teen stuff) because that's my main genre and it should be a lot easier for me to write that.

I would love to meet up with other NaNoWriMo writers! I'm open Saturdays (almost all day) as long as there is some advanced notice. I'm also open Tuesday and Friday afternoons/evenings as long as, again, I have some advanced notice.

I was told of NaNoWriMo from my dad and he heard about it from someone at work.

If a ninja was following me... I probably wouldn't know...... haha

FWIW, I'm officially changing my genre to "young adult," thus opening a new world of word-generating cliches and letting me off the hook from having to learn about the narrative structure of "The Tempest." Yay, laziness!

1) I'm Lauren, and after a few years living in Philadelphia I'm back in Jacksonville, my home town. I can't say I'm entirely pleased with the weather (where are my autumn leaves?) but otherwise it's nice to be back.

2) I've just taken a retail job for the holiday season. It starts November 1, so I expect to go even more insane than usual when week two rolls around.

3) I've participated five years, but I've only got one win. Well, hopefully this year will make two!

4) I'll be writing a fantasy, though my specific plot is still up in the air. I'm thinking either reincarnation or alternate universes.

5) I'd love to meet up with other people. I don't have a specific schedule right now, but I think evenings might be best.

6) *WILD CARD QUESTION* I heard about NaNoWriMo from my college roommate in freshman year. I blame her for the way writing took up all my free time before winter finals. :)

Brenda Weiler, originally from Rock Hill, SC. I've been in Jacksonville for two years.

2) Job/School?
Retired Accounting Supervisor for a Law Office in SC.

3) Number of years you've participated in NaNoWriMo/Number of wins
This is my eighth year/won six times (I moved to Jacksonville in November, 2007. No time to write that month!)

4) Genre you'll be writing in
Mystery/Thriller with a little romance thrown into the mix.

5) Would you like to meet-up with other NaNoWriMo writers during November? (If yes, describe where works best for you)
Of course. I'm usually free on Saturdays. Panera on Atlantic is good for me or anywhere near there.

6) *WILD CARD QUESTION* Say whatever you want
I'm happy to see that we have an active local group this year. I enjoyed Charlotte, NC's gatherings in the past and would like to meet with other writers here to commiserate during the month. (Kick-offs there would mean goodie bags with lots of little freebies from NaNoWriMo home office. Hint! Hint!)

4) Genre you'll be writing in

5) Would you like to meet-up with other NaNoWriMo writers during November? (If yes, describe where works best for you)
SURE! I’m not a member of any group for writers here and I would love to meet some fellow authors. Weekend days are best for me.

6) *WILD CARD QUESTION*
I recently published my first YA novel with Devine Destinies. Whoo Hoo! :) Last week they told me they want the second novel out by 1/1/10. Uh oh. Here’s the problem. I haven’t been working on that. I’ve been working on something else because I wasn’t really sure the publisher would want the second book. So I have an outline, your basic ‘back of the book’ info, and the blurb I wrote when I sent in the original query. That’s about it. I have set down to write a few times, but nothing seems to be coming out and I end up on Twitter! Well, no more I say! I will finish in November.

2) Job/School?
Draftsman/Graduated from UNF in '00.

3) Number of years you've participated in NaNoWriMo/Number of wins

4) Genre you'll be writing in
Sci-Fi I think.

5) Would you like to meet-up with other NaNoWriMo writers during November? (If yes, describe where works best for you)
Yes. Pretty much anywhere.

6) *WILD CARD QUESTION* Say whatever you want! Like, how did you hear about NaNoWriMo or what would you do if a ninja was following you. ;-)
Real life friends w/ FlannelJustice and Asterisk in the Jax area, and Coolidge in the out-of-town area. They convinced me to do NaNoWriMo, and I'm glad they did. I only have a vague idea of what I'm going to write, which was all I had in July, and I somehow scraped up 50,000 words. Let's see if I can do it again.

2) Unemployed, but I will be starting at Fccj/Fscj in january

3) This is my first year doing NaNoWriMo. Yay!

4) I have yet to decide the genre, but it will probably be something fantasy related.
